Get Your Political Opinions Here 5.0 - - January 2019 to June 2019

Editor's Note: This page is simply meant to collect links to political articles. Each of the links on this page could have been a separate post, which would have artificially inflated the total post count on this blog. The following guiding principles have been established for this page:
  • This is a page with blind links. I often use the title of the article so the decision can be made whether to click the link or not, but sometimes, I'm pressed for time. If it looks interesting, click it.
  • This is not a "fair and balanced" page. I repeat, "This is not a "fair and balanced" page. I make ZERO attempt to have an equal number of "conservative" links and "liberal" links on this page.
  • While I often align myself with Conservative values, there are some issues where the Conservatives have it wrong. There is a list of those issues on which the Conservatives DO NOT have it wrong at the bottom of this page.

On Thursday, 6/20/2019, I searched for the HTML version of this code "/a>/li>" which indicates a link to an article - there were 247 matches. Then I searched for the HTML version of this code "/iframe>/li>" which indicates an embedded youtube video - there were 227 matches. I will probably update these totals at the end of 2019.

  26. I think President Trump should not say shit like this, whether it is true or not, because it treats Robert Mueller as though he doesn't have feelings. President Trump does not like when people say mean things about him and the best way to live, to me, is to treat others how you want to be treated. I think our world would be a much better place if everyone could do that instead of this: Fox News Exclusive: Trump says Mueller made a ‘fool’ of himself with public statement on the Russia probe. President Trump, in an interview to air Thursday on Fox News’ 'The Ingraham Angle,' said former Special Counsel Robert Mueller made “such a fool” out of himself last week when he delivered a statement on the Russia probe

Chip Towers of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported UGA is going to create a special area inside Sanford Stadium where members of the Magill Society—donors who commit at least $25,000 over a five-year period—can purchase beer and wine, but they cannot take the drinks back to their seat.

[sarcasm] Obviously, this policy is a policy that only benefits the wealthy and the rich and leaves the un-wealthy and the un-rich . . . sober.[/sarcasm]

    • New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, widely known to have been pondering a White House run, is expected to announce his official entry into the crowded candidate field on Thursday, a source familiar with the situation told Fox News on Wednesday. De Blasio will make the announcement in a Thursday morning video followed by an appearance on ABC News' "Good Morning America," said the source, who requested anonymity. The mayor would be the 23rd Democrat vying for the Democratic presidential nomination, following Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, who announced his own candidacy on Tuesday. De Blasio has plans to visit a pair of early-voting states. He will travel to Iowa on Friday and South Carolina on Saturday, a spokesperson told Fox News. The mayor has been teasing an announcement this week about his decision. And he's made several campaign-style trips to states expected to play key roles in the Democratic nominating process.

MUELLER REPORT'S RELEASE MAY NOT BE THE END OF RUSSIA HYSTERIA: The public release of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report on Thursday marked the dramatic final note of a lengthy and contentious investigation, but also sparked new calls for subpoenas, congressional testimony, resignations, and even impeachment proceedings -- all despite the probe's central finding that no evidence showed that President Trump's team "coordinated or conspired" with Russia ... The whirlwind moments kept coming, even hours after the report's release, as more and more revelations from the 448-page document trickled out. The White House, for its part, claimed total victory and vindication for the president who, according to the report, once fretted that the special counsel's appointment meant he was "f---ed" beyond the possibility of redemption and that his agenda would be derailed by partisan distractions.
But Democrats and media outlets that long advanced the idea that the Trump campaign had treasonously worked with Russia -- and anticipated that the Trump administration would collapse -- quickly pivoted to whether the president had, instead, interfered with the now-completed investigation. Within minutes of the report's publication, House Judiciary Committee Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., charged that the special counsel had provided "disturbing evidence that President Trump engaged in obstruction of justice" and, referencing the report's limited redactions, wondered: "Imagine what remains hidden from our view." Nadler immediately called on Mueller himself to testify, and top Republicans, including Trump personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and Attorney General William Barr, said they would have no objections to him doing so. He also announced he would subpoena the full, unredacted version of the Mueller report and any underlying grand jury evidence, setting up a likely legal confrontation with the Justice Department.
  28. TRUMP, SUPPORTERS REPEAT CALL TO INVESTIGATE THE INVESTIGATORS: President Trump and his legal team declared victory after Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report was released, with the president repeating his "no collusion" mantra and saying “this should never happen to another president again" ... “I’m having a good day, too, it’s called ‘no collusion, no obstruction,’” he said in remarks for the Wounded Warrior Project Soldier Ride, at the White House. “There never was by the way, and there never will be.” Trump also added, “This should never happen to another president again, this hoax, it should never happen to another president again." He also promised “to get to the bottom of these things,” hinting at calls for the origins of the two-year investigation to be reviewed.

I think all of these candidates should be locked into a room together, with no assistants or "handlers" and no one leaves until there is a compromise reached among them for who is going to run, who is going to be Vice-President, who is going to fill Cabinet spots, and so forth and so on. I really doubt there is a way 23 candidates make it to a debate stage leading up to 2020 - some will drop out before the end of the year I HOPE! because they are not generating enough recognition or, perhaps, too much recognition for something other than policy.

MORE PROOF OF CLINTON FAVORITISM AT OBAMA'S DOJ? - The Justice Department "negotiated" an agreement with Hillary Clinton's legal team that ensured the FBI did not have access to emails on her private servers relating to the Clinton Foundation, former FBI special agent Peter Strzok testified during a closed-door appearance before the House Judiciary Committee last summer ... According to a newly released transcript, Strzok acknowledged that Clinton's private personal email servers contained a mixture of emails related to the Clinton Foundation, her work as secretary of state and other matters. Republicans late last year renewed their efforts to probe the Clinton Foundation, after tax documents showed a plunge in its incoming donations after Clinton’s failed 2016 presidential campaign. The numbers fueled longstanding allegations of possible “pay-to-play” transactions at the organization.
  39. 'TERROR ATTACK' LEAVES AT LEAST 49 DEAD IN NEW ZEALAND: One person has been charged in connection with a “well-planned” terrorist attack that killed 49 people and injured dozens more in two mosques in New Zealand on Friday, authorities said. The New Zealand police said four people -- three men and one woman -- were in custody in connection with the attack. Investigators later defused a number of improvised explosive devices that were found inside vehicles. Prime Minister Jacinda Arden described the suspects as one principal, two associates and one person not directly connected to the attacks. She said the suspects were not on any security watch lists. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison confirmed that one of the detainees was a 28-year-old white Australian-born citizen. He described the suspect as “an extremist, right-wing, violent terrorist.” No motive has been determined. However, a man who claimed responsibility for the shootings described anti-immigrant views in a manifesto. Investigators did not rule out that more suspects could be involved. Police were also working to remove an unconfirmed video that circulated online showing a suspect entering a building and firing multiple shots at people inside.

Or at least it was, until the other night. That’s when Hayes invited a man called Angelo Carusone onto his show. Carusone runs Media Matters. Almost every day, he issues outraged press releases accusing other people of bigotry. And yet, because everything is irony, Carusone is himself an enthusiastic bigot. • From the above article: Every single Democrat running for the presidency in 2020 voted “no” to a no-brainer bill that would require doctors to provide medical care for infants born alive after an abortion procedure. In other words, it requires doctors to save a life that they attempted to take . . .
  7. Senate Fails to Pass Born-Alive Bill By Alexandra DeSanctis February 25, 2019 6:20 PM
    • This truly boggles my mind...
      • During the floor debate over the bill this afternoon, several Democratic senators said they planned to oppose the legislation because they believe it limits women’s health-care options. “That is the actual intent of this bill, reducing access to safe abortion care would threaten the health of women in Hawaii,” said Mazie Hirono (D., Hawaii).
“This bill is just another line of attack in the ongoing war on women’s health,” said Jeanne Shaheen (D., N.H.).
Tina Smith, Democrat of Minnesota, said the born-alive bill “would override physicians’ professional judgment about what is best for their patients, and it would put physicians in the position of facing criminal penalties if their judgment about what is best for their patient is contrary to what is described in this bill.”
But nothing in the legislation forces doctors to provide any particular treatment to infants; it merely requires that they provide medical treatment. It mandates that doctors “exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health care practitioner would render to any other child born alive at the same gestational age.”
In other words, the born-alive bill would’ve done nothing more than insist that health-care providers treat children born alive after attempted abortions the same way that they’d treat any other infant.

  20. You’re Allowed to Be Happy a Hate Crime Didn’t Happen
    • From the article above: C.S. Lewis has a great quote in Mere Christianity that sums up this phenomenon better than I ever could:
      • Suppose one reads a story of filthy atrocities in the paper. Then suppose that something turns up suggesting that the story might not be quite true, or not quite so bad as it was made out. Is one's first feeling, ‘Thank God, even they aren't quite so bad as that,' or is it a feeling of disappointment, and even a determination to cling to the first story for the sheer pleasure of thinking your enemies are as bad as possible? If it is the second then it is, I am afraid, the first step in a process which, if followed to the end, will make us into devils. You see, one is beginning to wish that black was a little blacker. If we give that wish its head, later on we shall wish to see grey as black, and then to see white itself as black. Finally we shall insist on seeing everything — God and our friends and ourselves included — as bad, and not be able to stop doing it: we shall be fixed for ever in a universe of pure hatred.

  45. Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal Website Taken Down After Everyone Makes Fun Of Her Stupid Ideas
    • It Is Easy to Tell House Leaders Don’t Really Support the Green New Deal
    • GREEN RAW DEAL? - In what may be the most far-reaching proposal to ever be considered in Congress, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., unveiled her "Green New Deal" on Thursday -- a government-led overhaul of virtually every aspect of American life that would guarantee a host of taxpayer-covered benefits for all and phase out fossil fuels ... However the freshman lawmaker sparked confusion when she seemingly contradicted herself in a span of twelve hours on the nature of the government's role in the massive plan.
      • Ocasio-Cortez's office says the plan would aim to make air travel obsolete, upgrade or replace every building in America to ensure energy efficiency and give economic security even to those "unwilling" to work. The proposal, which calls for a massive package of big-government proposals including health care for all, quickly picked up the backing of major 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls including Sens. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Cory Booker, D-N.J. -- who all co-sponsored the resolution.

          • Tammy Bruce: 'New Green Deal' = New Green Hoax
            • President Trump’s Best Speech Ever
              • No issue better illustrates the divide between America’s working class and America’s political class than illegal immigration. Wealthy politicians and donors push for open borders while living their lives behind walls and gates and guards. Meanwhile, working class Americans are left to pay the price for mass illegal migration — reduced jobs, lower wages, overburdened schools and hospitals, increased crime, and a depleted social safety net. Tolerance for illegal immigration is not compassionate — it is cruel. One in three women is sexually assaulted on the long journey north. Smugglers use migrant children as human pawns to exploit our laws and gain access to our country. Human traffickers and sex traffickers take advantage of the wide open areas between our ports of entry to smuggle thousands of young girls and women into the United States and to sell them into prostitution and modern-day slavery. Tens of thousands of innocent Americans are killed by lethal drugs that cross our border and flood into our cities — including meth, heroin, cocaine, and fentanyl. The savage gang, MS-13, now operates in 20 different American States, and they almost all come through our southern border. Just yesterday, an MS-13 gang member was taken into custody for a fatal shooting on a subway platform in New York City. We are removing these gang members by the thousands, but until we secure our border they’re going to keep streaming back in.
              • My Administration has sent to the Congress a commonsense proposal to end the crisis on our southern border. It includes humanitarian assistance, more law enforcement, drug detection at our ports, closing loopholes that enable child smuggling, and plans for a new physical barrier, or wall, to secure the vast areas between our ports of entry. In the past, most of the people in this room voted for a wall — but the proper wall never got built. I’ll get it built. This is a smart, strategic, see-through steel barrier — not just a simple concrete wall. It will be deployed in the areas identified by border agents as having the greatest need, and as these agents will tell you, where walls go up, illegal crossings go way down.

                    19. First, I saw this letter from Pelosi and I thought he might give in to her.
                    20. Then I saw that it seemed as though the Democrats were turning on their own leader and I thought, "If Trump gives in now, uh-oh!"
                    21. I saw my Fox News email that states Trump announced on Twitter late Wednesday that he will not give a State of the Union address until after the partial government shutdown is over ... The president's announcement was the culmination of a tense day of political chess between Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The San Francisco Democrat told Trump that the House would not approve a resolution allowing him to address Congress in the House Chamber until after the government reopens. White House officials explored other possible venues for Trump to give the State of the Union address.
Ultimately, the president decided to delay the address. "I am not looking for an alternative venue for the SOTU address because there is no venue that can compete with the history, tradition and importance of the House Chamber," the president tweeted. “I look forward to giving a “great” State of the Union Address in the near future!”
Pelosi responded to Trump's announcement with a tweet of her own. She said she hopes that "the near future" means that he is willing to support the "House-passed package" to end the shutdown that is affecting about 800,000 federal workers.
                    22. DEAD END FOR SHUTDOWN PROPOSALS? - Amid the fallout from the Pelosi-Trump squabble over the State of the Union address, the Senate on Thursday is expected to vote on competing bills to end the partial government shutdown ... However, both are likely the fail because lawmakers are sharply divided on President Trump's proposed border wall – meaning neither bill will likely attract the 60 votes needed to pass.
The GOP bill is modeled after Trump's proposal from last weekend, in which he offered Democrats a three-year extension of protections for 700,000 DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients, in exchange for the $5.7 billion he has been seeking for a barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Democrats reject the funding for the wall outright. Their bill would re-open the government through Feb. 8, with no wall money, giving bargainers time to further negotiate.
                    23. GOV. CUOMO UNDER FIRE FOR CELEBRATING ABORTION BILL: New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is under fire from faith leaders after he signed a bill into law that legalizes abortion up until birth in many cases. The Democratic governor directed that One World Trade Center and other landmarks be lit in pink Tuesday to celebrate the passage of "Reproductive Health Act" ... Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, along with the Catholic Bishops in the state signed a letter condemning the bill, saying "our beloved state has become a more dangerous one for women and their unborn babies." Thomas Peters, the @AmericanPapist on Twitter, condemned Cuomo, saying he should be excommunicated for his pro-abortion actions, pointing to the One World Trade Center's pink spire.
                    24. NEW REVELATIONS ABOUT NATIVE AMERICAN ACTIVIST: Nathan Phillips, the Native American activist who became the focal point of a viral confrontation with students from a Kentucky Catholic high school over the weekend, may not enjoy the scrutiny his new fame has invited ... Though several outlets described Phillips as a Vietnam War veteran, the Marine Corps on Wednesday confirmed he never served in the Vietnam War and wasn't deployed overseas.
Phillips, then known as Nathaniel R. Stanard, served in the Marine Corps Reserve for four years before leaving in 1976 with the rank of private. During his time in the Marine Reserve, he was a refrigerator technician and anti-tank missile man.
In addition, officials at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., confirmed earlier reports that Phillips led several dozen people in an attempt to enter the shrine and disrupt Saturday evening mass, hours after his encounter with the Covington teens.
                        • National Brotherhood Week
                          Tom Lehrer
One week of every year is designated National Brotherhood Week.
This is just one of many such weeks honoring various worthy causes.
One of my favorites is National Make-Fun-Of-The-Handicapped Week,
which Frank Fontaine and Jerry Lewis are in charge of as you know.
During National Brotherhood Week various special events are arranged
to drive home the message of brotherhood - this year, for example,
on the first day of the week, Malcolm X was killed, which gives you
an idea of how effective the whole thing is.
I'm sure we all agree that we ought to love one another,
and I know there are people in the world who do not love
their fellow human beings, and I hate people like that!
Here's a song about National Brotherhood Week:
                          Oh, the white folks
                          hate the black folks.
                          And the black folks,
                          hate the white folks
To hate all but the right folks
                          is an old established rule
                          But during...

                      2. Here’s Pelosi’s Real Message on Delaying SOTU
                        • While I would usually say to go read the above link, I think it is short enough (and relevant!!) to include, verbatim, on this page:
                          • Speaker Nancy Pelosi put the White House on notice that she does not intend to invite President Trump to address a joint session of Congress on January 29, as is the usual tradition, to deliver the State of the Union (SOTU) address.
She claims “security concerns,” but that’s a flimsy excuse.
“Sadly, given the security concerns and unless government reopens this week, I suggest that we work together to determine another suitable date after government has reopened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on Jan. 29,” Ms. Pelosi wrote. (published in The New York Times, Jan 16, 2019
Sure, this is political grandstanding at its finest. It’s almost to the level of a Trump-style troll, to which the president has not immediately responded. The lack of a Trump reply on Twitter can be interpreted as his gut instinct telling him that anything he might say or tweet right now would only shove his metatarsals further into his epiglottis.
But that’s not the message of Pelosi’s break of tradition. The real message is in the planned date of the State of the Union: January 29. Today is January 17, and Democrats have settled in for the long haul. They refused a Wednesday lunch invitation by the White House to discuss a solution to the shutdown.
In fact, there are no meaningful negotiations taking place to end the shutdown, although Trump signed legislation guaranteeing furloughed federal employees–and those who are forced to work without pay–will receive back pay and benefits (including paid time off) for their time spent in political purgatory.
Pelosi’s message is simple, and clear. Democrats are in this for the long haul, and plan to never (or at least until it’s politically beneficial to them) capitulate to Trump’s wall funding demand. They want the shutdown to hurt. They want to parade an endless line of harmed victims of the shutdown in front of eager media cameras. They want at least another 12 days of this until the Republicans break and turn on the president.
The shutdown is immoral, harmful, and will not be forgotten by voters. Trump cannot back down, or risk irreparable damage to his political future. Many in Congress will face the same wrath from voters. But Democrats have played their hand in the open. The shutdown will continue because Democrats want it to continue until maximum damage is inflicted.
                            That’s Pelosi’s real message.

                        • A federal judge ruled Tuesday that former national security adviser Susan Rice and former deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes must answer written questions about the State Department's response to the deadly 2012 terror attack in Benghazi, Libya, as part of an ongoing legal battle over whether Hillary Clinton sought to deliberately evade public record laws by using a private email server while secretary of state ... U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth denied a request by the conservative group Judicial Watch to make Rice and Rhodes sit for depositions, but agreed to have them answer written questions. He also agreed to Judicial Watch's request to depose the State Department about the preparation of talking points for Rice, then President Barack Obama's ambassador to the United Nations, ahead of appearances on political talk shows the Sunday following the attack.

                        Comment from the article:
This idea the Democrats will be forced to do something, because of a shutdown that is 100% just because Trump up and wanted one, is rather silly.
Infact[sic], the exact opposite is true - Democrats are absolutely loving that the stompy-foot "I will shut down the Government unless I get what I want" President is flip-flopping all over the place trying to justify this and threatening to tear up the Constitution in his desperate attempt to save even a tiny bit of face.
All the pressure is currently on Republicans to end Trump's shutdown - that's why some Republicans are already saying it should be ended, others are saying they are open to clean bills to end it, and Trumps bootlickers are encouraging him to piss on the Constitution just so they can reopen the Government without having it look like they went against him on FoxNews
He's not getting the wall either way.
So right now he has himself completely trapped - either he surrenders, he has the Republicans in the Senate surrender and he accepts it by signing the bill, or he tears up the Constitution in an attempt to give an impression he's going to win when he knows full well he actually won't.

                      22. This news clipping is from one of my journals from a long time ago. Look at the red box. Clinton threatened to veto a bill because it included a provision that was "designed to prevent a government shutdown...." I think it is relevant as Democrats portray President Trump as not a good person for allowing the government shutdown to continue when President Clinton planned to veto legislation that would prevent a government shutdown.

                          • Erick, Thanks for being on the side of open public debate even though you have many issues with Trump. The ironic thing is that all the networks have now agreed to air Trump's oval office address, not because it is the right thing to do, but because not airing it would only give Trump further ammunition to bash their clear Democratic bias.
In the words of CNN's Brian Stelter tweet. "If we give him the time, he'll deliver a fact-free screed without rebuttal. And if we don't give him the time, he'll call every network partisan. So we are damned if we do and damned if we don't." Of course, from CNN's point of view, Trump lies about everything, even the partisanship of mainstream media networks.

                      29. The text below is from my MSNBC Daily email, dated Wed, 1/2/2019, 11:25 PM. I have to say, things look pretty bleak for President Trump. Just as Fox News should not be considered 100% correct, 100% of the time, I do not consider MSNBC to be 100% correct, 100% of the time. That is why I strive for a balance in what I read about politics. I mentioned this idea above - "while I often align myself with Conservative values, there are some issues where the Conservatives have it wrong" - which I think is really kind of funny. The 4th bullet point below - Melber: Trump breaks campaign promise by shutting down government over border wall - is not that far off-base. Trump did promise that Mexico would pay for the wall and now has shut down the government because Democrats won't pass the payment for the wall to its citizens. Sigh. My favorite mother-in-law said that the time has passed for funding a wall through Congress. She has told me that the time to get the funding for the wall through Congress was when President Trump had a Republican-controlled House and a Republican-controlled Senate. Now, with the Democrats taking over the House today (Thursday, 1/3/2019), it isn't going to pass unless President Trump gives the Democrats something else that they want and, frankly, I don't know what President Trump can agree to that the Democrats will accept, now that they are in the better position, starting today.
                        • It's the dawn of a new day for President Trump: The president is about to enter a brand new political reality, one that could prove rougher than what he's experienced over the past two years. On Thursday, Democrats take control of the House on the official opening day of the 116th Congress.
Thursday is day 13 of the partial government shutdown. One of the first items on presumptive Speaker Nancy Pelosi's agenda is figuring out how to fund the government and end the partial shutdown.
A White House meeting between President Donald Trump and top congressional leaders produced no tangible progress Wednesday. White House and Hill sources described the session as "frank" and "civil" — as well as "circular" and "contentious at times." The Situation Room meeting ended after the President suggested they all meet again Friday after leadership elections.

Referring to Donald Trump, former Senator Harry Reid told The New York Times: "I think he is without question the worst president we've ever had. We've had some bad ones, and there's not even a close second to him ... He'll lie. He'll cheat. You can't reason with him."
                      32. Melber: Trump breaks campaign promise by shutting down government over border wall
Ari Melber breaks down how Trump is violating his own campaign promise by shutting down the Government over border wall funding. Melber walks through how Trump in fact promised that Mexico would pay for the wall and is now breaking his pledge and trying to pass on the bill to U.S. taxpayers. Melber also walks through how Trump’s entire career was built on selling the hoax of “something for nothing” and this same pattern is now being politicized through the border wall funding battle.

                      • Endorsing Socialism. I do not agree that people can have "too much" money. I do not agree that billionaires should be taxed more if the only path to fund all the grand ideas that would make America a great country are by additional taxes on billionaires. Does that really mean Bill Gates, who has a charitable foundation and does good things with his money is immoral? There was not an exception clause in her interview - it was billionaires in the same society as the starving is immoral.
                      • I sincerely believe America should strive to live in a society where there is no hunger and homelessness. It's a worthy goal and an ideal. However, if Bernie Sanders or AOC declares, "You have too much money so we are going to take it from you," I don't agree. On what authority do either Bernie Sanders or AOC make that declaration? Just because they pulled a number out of the air? Nope. That's a hole-ly bucket to base a society upon - it doesn't hold water.
