Was 2025 an Odd-Time Drumming Year?

Since 2025 is an odd-numbered year, I have decided that one of my goals (not a New Year's Resolution) is to work on my ability to play drums in an odd-time, meaning, not in "4/4" or "3/4" or "6/8" - those are the primary time signatures of the tunes that I play when I play drums, whether it is with Bad Rumor or at Saint Thomas More. The video below is 18:00 long and by Nate at the 80/20 Drummer. It's only 1-2-2025 and there's 363 days (11 months, 4 weeks, 1 day) until the end of this year. I'm going to create a reminder post that will be published on 12-31-2025 with a link back to this post. I'll predict right now that on 12-31-2025, I have NOT spent a lot of time on my odd-time drumming. There, I said it. https://www.the8020drummer.com/blog/odd-meters - The "Ultimate Guide" to Odd Meters on Drums

The TNA iMPACT! Zone RIOT That Ended in the Police Being Called - 2009-08-06

2025-09-07-BR-HouseDivided-Set-03-005955

And yes, here's my favorite set of drumming in 2025 - the 3rd set at House Divided in Ely. The tunes are all good,  mixing the new tune Evil Ways along with our standard tunes like Ready for Love,  Can't Always Get,  and yes, even Freebird. We played tight with the standard ones and I personally loved the way I played Evil Ways. Personally, I would have been happier if the bee 🐝 had not been near me...
00:00:00-00:07:42 Evil Ways
00:07:42-00:15:15 Mustang Sally
00:15:15-00:19:15 Great Balls of Fire
00:19:15-00:24:15 Brown-Eyed Girl
00:24:15-00:31:30 Texas Flood
00:31:30-00:37:30 Old Time R&R
00:37:30-00:59:55 Ready for Love
00:45:00-00:51:00 Can't Always Get What You Want
00:51:00-00:59:55 Freebird

In addition to playing drums with Bad Rumor and the open mic in Door County,  I also played a Halloween neighborhood Halloween party on October 11th with Kevin, Jeff, Cody, and Josh. Of the 3 sets we played,  set 2 is my favorite and I am noting this gig with my Honorable Mention distinction for 2025. I enjoyed playing with these guys and I am hoping that we establish some sort of regular rehearsal schedule for 2026.

Bad-Rumor_2025-03-22-StickysCabana-Higbee-MO

Hands down, playing drums at Sticky's Cabana was a highlight of 2025... I know I was excited to play outside of Iowa and I am proud of how much I was locked in with my bandmates... and it ranks as my 4th favorite drumming in 2025.

As 2025 winds down, I would propose that these 3 tunes on Monday night, August 4th at Husby's in Door County, WI, is my 5th choice for my best drumming in 2025.

2025-11-01-BadRumor-DannysOnDonald-Set-04

As 2025 winds down, I would propose that the 4th set on Saturday night,  November 1st at Danny's on Donald in Waterloo is my 2nd choice for my best drumming in 2025.

Late

If I ever went 7 years, 8 months, 3 weeks (2821 Days) without updating my blog - as the owner of this blog http://edkeith.blogspot.com has allowed to have happen for whatever reason - I'd be ashamed. I'm speaking only about me and about this specific blog, not about Ed Keith's blog! No matter how busy I was, I would find the time to delete this blog from existence. To look at this blog on Sunday, December 21, 2025, and see that the last post I made was on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, would rub me in the wrong way. Frankly, I'd be embarrassed! That said, I wonder if my old website that I started back in 1996ish exists in some archive. I think it was a geocities site.

RIP Meathead

How True was this Article for 2025?

As I write this post on Monday, 12-16-2024, I presume that Future prhmusic will still follow the pro wrestling companies WWE and, to a much lesser extent, AEW, which is why I am future dating this post for a year from now to check in on how correct this article with predictions about who the top WWE and AEW superstars will be.

Serbi is not Doing Okay Right Now

I have written about my friend several times on this blog and labeled those posts with Serbi. And right now, I'm praying for my friend Michael Serbousek, otherwise known as Serbi, as he is fighting for his life in a U of NE hospital bed.

I can't fathom the pain in that hospital room as Sherry, his girlfriend, Steve, his brother, and his parents, Bill & Pat, wait for him to finish his war with his internal injuries after he was taken to St Luke's in Cedar Rapids, IA,  by ambulance. Then, he was airlifted to the U of NE.

Obviously,  my friend needs to survive this. He is stubborn and has never taken any shit from anyone so if he were not sedated, I have zero doubt he would be pissed to be in the hospital bed in that room.  He'd probably be demanding everyone to stop being sad and that he doesn't have any regrets about how awesome his life has been.  Sure, he's been screwed over and made poor decisions and he has paid the price for all of those mistakes.

God, he is loved by his family and he is loved by his friends - I don't want him to come see you now...

Point Break

My realization about Point Break (1991), 30 years after the fact.

Point Break starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze is one of my favourite movies of all time, it's a top 5 action movie (with one of the greatest chase scenes in history) and I've seen it probably over 30 times at this point in my life. It also came out over 30 years ago so no point in breaking down what the movie is about, if you clicked this link clearly you already know and probably love the movie too.

But just recently something finally clicked about the movie, and more specifically about Bodhi (Patrick Swayze's character). And perhaps this is something that's known, since it's a 30 year old movie, or perhaps I'm just way out there with this, but let's see...

As much as I love the movie it was always a bit weird how far Bodhi went to befriend and help Johnny Utah (Reeves). He helps him fight off the guys that attack him, teaches him to surf, sets off Utah's relationship with the woman he falls in love with, and even after learning of Utah's true identity he still maintains the friendship, takes him skydiving, and once things fall apart he makes Utah tag along rather than kill him, in fact he never even has plans to kill Utah. Bodhi always puts Utah first even against the advice of his friends/partners and at his own detriment.

But I just took that as something to make the plot move forward, or we're supposed to think originally it's because Bodhi is enamoured by Utah because he was a former NCAA QB, and later just because Bodhi is a good, but erratic, dude who doesn't kill.

But then through some happenstance I stumbled into something while googling around.

At one point early on Tyler (Lori Petty) first tells Utah about Bodhi, she says "That's Bodhi....they call him the Bodhisattva. He's a modern savage, a real searcher."

For years I took it as a way to describe Bodhi as being a free spirit, all about nature, kind of a hippie. But recently I was randomly googling about Buddhism and one way or another it led me to "Bodhisattvas". And now I think we're supposed to take that line as a literal description of who Bodhi is.

"Bodhisattvas are enlightened beings who have put off entering paradise in order to help others attain enlightenment."

That's who Bodhi is and what his journey in the film is about. He's searching for people he can help attain enlightenment, which is his goal with Utah. He sees that in him and he shows him all the beauty and pain and joys and heartbreaks of life, he teaches him about humanity and people's natures, tells him to become his own master instead of a servant of the law of man.
"You can do what you want, and make up your own rules. Why be a servant to the law, when you can be its master?"

This eventually leads to Utah, as a literal servant of the law, catching up to Bodhi and after finally having a physical confrontation with him Utah is able to best Bodhi and put him in cuffs. Bodhi pleads with him to allow him to experience this once in a lifetime natural phenomenon, something that is bigger than the law or either of them.

And that's when Utah finally achieves enlightenment. He sees the world like Bodhi does. He uncuffs Bodhi to let him paddle out to the one thing he's truly wanted to experience in life.

Utah's final lines to Bodhi are "Vaya con dios"....Go with God. Normally a phrase only used in religious contexts.

The final shots of the film are Utah throwing away his badge, ending his time as a servant of the law, and Bodhi crashing and falling off his board into the wave, ending his time on earth as he enters paradise having helped Utah achieve enlightenment.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

RVD Marathon

This video has 8 matches and some crude math says 2:30 divided by 8 means each match averages out to over 19 minutes. The first match, with the two acrobatic dives out of the ring and onto Bam Bam Bigelow - 10:22 and 11:10 - are pretty awesome!

Also,  I'm amused by the commentary of the guy who described Bill Alfonso as "the verbal diarrhetic." Such a wicked way to say that the dude doesn't SHUT UP when he is working the match. I remember seeing BA  as a manager in ECW and just being awestruck by his antics. I have no idea why he never transitioned to WWE like other ECW wrestlers did. He would have been a definite one person to keep an eye on when wrestling in the ring. Using that whistle after a crazy move was unique.

In fact,  I can't think of any other manager ever using any other sound device to draw attention towards a great in-ring move other than BA. The closest I can think of is The New Day dude playing the trombone if he was at ringside and Big E and Kofi Kingston were wrestling in a tag team match.

Anyways,  RVD is definitely one of those wrestlers that gave 1000% during each match and sacrificed his body for the audience. I know he had some legal issues and I am not endorsing any of that; I am saying that he was always giving maximum effort in the squared circle.

NY Mayor Race Tightens

Cuomo Closes The Gap As Mamdani Plays Victim

By Ben Shapiro

Oct 28, 2025

If you won't give him the mayoralty of the financial center of planet Earth, it must be because you are mean to Muslims.

There is some good news out of New York. It's not a lot of good news out of New York, but it's some good news.

There's a brand new poll from Suffolk University showing that in New York, Andrew Cuomo — who is really the only hope of stopping Zohran Mamdani in the New York mayoral race — is catching up to Zohran Mamdani. The poll found that Mamdani no longer leads Cuomo by 20 points or 15 points, but the lead is down to ten, and Mamdani is stuck at 44%.

Typically, when somebody wins the New York mayoral race, they win well over a majority. Here you have Mamdani at 44%. You have Cuomo at 34%, and you have Curtis Sliwa at 11%. There will be a lot of talk if Mamdani ends up mayor about why Curtis Sliwa stayed in the race.

The reality is that Curtis Sliwa is not going to be the next mayor of New York. And if his vote share is larger than the margin of victory for Mamdani, that will leave some questions to be asked.

1)   Why is the New York City population so insipid?
 2)  Why didn't Sliwa drop out?

As David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, says, Sliwa "is one person in New York City whose voters could have an outsized impact on the outcome."

This is the first poll since Mayor Eric Adams dropped out of the race.

Most of his support has bled to Cuomo.

Mamdani is running a terrible final week of this campaign. He has decided that his closing message is going to be that New York City is famous for Islamophobia and if you don't elect him, it's because you don't like Muslims, which is a wild statement in a city that suffered 9/11 (where apparently the only victim of 9/11, according to Zohran Mamdani, was his own female relative, who was wearing some sort of hijab on the subway and somebody gave her a mean look).

So now his final closing pitch is, "Why won't you give me the mayoralty? If you don't, it's because you're mean to Muslims."

That is the mark of a person who truly feels entitled to everything. If you won't give him the mayoralty of the financial center of planet Earth, it must not be because he's a bad candidate, an out-and-out communist, a sympathizer with jihadists, but because you are mean to Muslims.

Lest you truly believe that Mamdani is some sort of soft-hearted, wonderful person, I want to point out a clip of him from 2023. You want to know where his ideology comes from? His ideology is deeply, deeply ensconced in the Red-Green alliance between communists and radical jihadists that is characteristic of so much of the Left these days.

That quote from him in September 2023 shows him explaining that basically, his hatred for capitalism springs from his dislike of the "Zionists."

Mamdani stated:

The importance for me of international solidarity is that it takes me out of the American political landscape and reminds me just how tame some of the things that I'm actually calling for in the next board. And it reminds me of the necessity of grounding ourselves in the struggles as opposed to the fights around the struggles. For anyone to care about these issues … We have to make clear that when the boot of the NYPD is on your neck, it's been laced by the IDF. We're in a country where those connections abound. Especially in New York City, you have so many opportunities to make clear the ways in which that struggle over there is tied to capitalist interests over here.

So you see, it's really the Jews in Israel who are tied to the capitalist interests in New York City. And capitalism, of course, is bad. If you missed it, he said, "When the boot of the NYPD is on your neck, it's been laced by the IDF."

This was not 15 years ago. This was two years ago. He was a full grown-ass man when he said this sort of garbage.

But if you point this out, you're "Islamophobic."

He only cares about "affordability." How is he going to deliver affordability? No one knows. But if he just says "affordability" over and over and over, then affordability will magically appear in New York City. It's like Beetlejuice. If you say affordability three times, then magically all of the rents go down.

He has no idea how he's going to do anything. But that doesn't matter. The reason people support Mamdani is because he's "fetch" and he's "brat."

There are a lot of idiots in New York, and those idiots in New York are fully on board with the idea that if you don't vote for Zohran Mamdani, it must be because you are some sort of racist, or because you hate gay people, or because you are one of those "capitalist tools."

One can only hope that the non-idiots in New York will show up to vote.

The rest of the country doesn't.

I'm familiar with all but the last 3 of this list of characters. I vaguely remember seeing Cobra - I remember that Cobra was a policeman and that he was after a serial killer; other than those dim memories, the plot escapes me. I do remember that Roger Ebert (of the Siskel & Ebert movie review TV show) did NOT like "Cobra" the movie.

Trump mocks ‘No Kings’ rallies in vulgar social media post

https://youtu.be/-WJod40GImo?si=OjAfXUDRdZJ7tmVl

I guarantee you that Trump didn't create the video. The woman in this video says that not taking the "No Kings" protesters seriously is good for Democrats and I can't disagree more. The Libs out protesting against Trump are not serious people. They can't define what a woman is and they claim that you should believe the science while saying that a boy who says he's a she *is* a she. They refer to "pregnant persons" instead of "women" and it's exhausting...

Bernie Ignores Question, Predicts Apocalypse

PSU v. Iowa - CRAZY ENDING

Boomer Selma and the GOP’s Secret Weapon - checking in with EE

No Kings has come and gone and was, thankfully, a peaceful protest of mostly white retirees.

The Boomers are ever in need of their Selma.

What struck me most is that while there was diversity of sex and race and ethnicity, the crowds were everywhere still mostly older white people. These people's fathers stormed the beaches of Normandy and fought the actual Nazis, then came home and started families, then joined together in the Civl Rights movement while their kids were partying in high school.

Now the kids need their moment to be like dad. They had a summer of love. They want a summer of mattering.

They have no bridges to cross in Selma. So they show up with silly signs and dumb chants for pretty much anything. Now, it is to protest that the democratically elected President of the United States and the democratically elected Republican controlled Congress that empowers him are allowing that elected President to behave like a king, and the only thing to stop him are, ironically, life-tenured unelected judges who are kings in their courtrooms and boomers marching in the street with their grandkids.

Their alternative is actually worse — a progressive brigade of socialists who'd take away the local choices of communities for a technocratically operated Washington demanding everyone everywhere comply with their demands from the cars you can drive to the food you can eat to the fuel you can use to power your stove, all while compromising your daughters' safety in her sports and bathrooms.

They're even normalizing Nick Fuentes, the white supremacist now, or at least The Drudge Report is. Fuentes was radioactive, but now he is publicly claiming there's something wrong with Trump. So whoever runs the Drudge Report is happily sending Fuentes traffic. Politics makes strange bedfellows.

Undoubtedly there are those there who really are concerned with the President, his behavior, and those around him who flout norms, blow up speed boats in the southern Caribbean, and say the F-word during presidential Q&A's with reporters, among other things, but too many of them are just upset their side lost and have decided to cosplay as Civil Rights crusades with too few bridges to cross.

One of the very great ironies of those who funded and organized the "No Kings" movement is how so many of them also supported the effort to tear down statutes of our founding fathers, have vilified this country as founded on racism and support of slavery, and want us to be very much more European where kings and queens and dilettante pretenders to thrones still roam.

Word came over the weekend that the President might start walking back some of his tariffs because of the impact they are starting to have on consumers. Automakers are signaling they can no longer keep absorbing costs. Small businesses in a CNBC survey say they have frozen hirings and pay raises. And grocery prices have started to go back up as we reach the season where we start importing more agricultural products. Even beef, through drought, processing problems, and 75% tariffs on key countries that import beef, is starting to go up. The President's team is listening to those who suggest these tariffs, directly impacting consumers, could help Democrats.

I keep telling Republicans that their present economic policies are not good for consumers. The growth of the economy is actually very anemic when you take out data centers and the AI that those centers are related to. Small businesses actually are struggling right now. Tariffs are playing a big role. Here's one key fact — if you take out AI and data center investments, the economy of the United States only grew by one-tenth of one percent for the first half of 2016. We've got a Potemkin village of an economy right now, and the GOP risks the wrath of voters if the buildings collapse.

When Nvidia invests $100 million into OpenAI, which then buys $100 million in chips from Nvidia or buys AMD stock to publicly announce it so the stock goes up, then using that stock growth to fund chip purchases, something is really wrong with the economy. When so many private equity groups are pushing individual investors to invest in new products via 401(K) funds, etc., that are dubious, we have problems. They are not Donald Trump's problems or fault, but will become his if things go south. He, after all, is President and, fairly or not, the presidents all get blamed.

Blame will come, regardless, from MSNBC. Hilariously, over the weekend, progressives on social media showed MSNBC aerial footage of a massive crowd formed at a "No Kings" rally. But it was from Trump's first term, not this term. MSNBC, of course, is a secret weapon for the GOP.

On Saturday, Senators Bernie Sanders and Chris Murphy stood on a D.C. rally stage with a political activist who has previously and repeatedly chanted "F— America," called for violence against Jews, cheered on and defended cop killers, and regretted that Trump was not killed in the assassination attempt.

When Donald Trump met with Nick Fuentes, I and a large number of conservatives very vocally criticized the meeting. MSNBC and CNN gave it lots of airtime. Neither network thought it was relevant that the No Kings protests were turning the stage over to an activist who seeks to end the United States or who supports cop killers. And now Drudge is sending traffic to Fuentes.

The new right is, I think, far too willing now to hang out with unsavory characters and bring them into the movement, in large part because the Left has long done that. Obama got his political start in the living room of a terrorist and fraternized with Jeremiah Wright. The media gave him a pass, so parts of Trump's coalition think they should do the same.

Except, at the upper levels of the White House and the GOP, they understand that the major media would give wall-to-wall coverage of Trump hanging out with unsavory characters. The same press, however, excuses the left's excesses, which fosters even more excess.

The American people no longer just rely on the press corps for their news. So the people understand the Democrats' New York mayoral candidate socializing with an unindicted co-conspirator of the first World Trade Center bombing raises red flags even as MSNBC ignores it. The American people understand normalizing those who champion cop killers is a bad thing.

But the progressives, in their bubble, are not called to account by MSNBC and rarely by CNN, so they keep fraternizing with America haters. That, in part, is why the No Kings protests will do little to shift American opinion. As much as the public does not like Trump, they really hate the Democrats. The dislike of Trump is unlikely to drive Americans towards a group they hate even more. But that group does not realize how much Americans loathe them because the news media is incapable of making their own team account for their sins.

Boomers can have their Selma moment. The GOP needs to pay careful attention to the economy. But let's not pretend some political wave is being shaped by the cosplaying progressive grandparents. Most Americans this weekend were more interested in football and their grill than turning out to pretend they were doing something meaningful.

Personal note: This has been a bit of a challenging weekend. I'll be on air today for most of the show, but the last hour will be best of as I tend to the family. My wife was admitted to the hospital on Friday and is still there. My son is down for the count with both a virus and a sinus infection. I'm on Doctor Husband/Dad duty. Prayers are especially appreciated for my wife. She is battling Rhabdomyolysis. Her cancer scans were supposed to be tomorrow, but they'll be put off now.
