Long Weekend

My mother fell on Thursday. She tripped over a walker and broke her hip. I have been in the hospital visiting her Friday, Saturday, and today. Every day. I visited her. It's what family is supposed to do. And that's what I did.

Technical Writers are ...

"Toilets work just like technical writers. Someone comes along and dumps a  load of crap on them, and then expects them to magically clean it all up  and make it presentable by the time the person dumping it has washed his hands of it." - William Sherman

Back Home!

I felt icky all day today. I think I knocked over any previous record for caffeine when I drank 4 20 oz bottles of Mountain Dew and a 12 oz can of Pepsi. The odd thing is that I am not overly "awake" - I could go to bed now and sleep peacefully, I think.

We returned from Tyler's 1st Communion/birthday celebration in Cedar Falls. I do not think I will be in Cedar Falls for at least a couple of months. I did something to make it kind of memorable. I was loading up the truck when a woman approached me. She asked for a ride from the hotel we had spent the night at to another hotel 3 miles away. She and her friend are walking *walking* across America, from DE to CA. They have supplies shipped to them and what they found out is that the supplies had been sent to the wrong hotel. The wrong hotel was 3 miles away. So rather than walk 6 miles round-trip, I gave them a ride. The walk across the USA is going to take 7 months. SEVEN MONTHS!! It's wild to think of someone walking that far. I was curious, maybe nosy, and asked if they listened to music. Nope. No music. That would drive me nuts to not be able to put in Metallica or Five Finger Death Punch or Bayside(!!!!!!) or Count the Stars or anyone I like.I would want to find a 20 GB *portable* MP3 player and, frankly, I would probably find some band I wasn't familiar with at the same level of intimacy as the aforementioned bands - I'm thinking Grateful Dead, Phish, maybe even the Beatles - and learn to enjoy their catalog.

All that as it is, I do not foresee walking across America and taking 7 months out of my life.

I am happy to be home in North Liberty.

What a Week, what a week, what a week!

Without really meaning to, this week flew by without a lot of effort. Monday was lessons; Tuesday was a meeting @ church; Wednesday was RE for Alex and when I mowed our neighbor's yard; Thur was somewhat relaxing; tonight, Alex had a dance @ school and Megan went to a play. My wife and I went to eat at the Midtown Family Restaurant for supper. GOOD FOOD!! EXCELLENT WAITER!!

Now, Alex is home and Megan is on her way home. Hoping to make up some ground on the CD to MP3 project.

Tomorrow, Alex has baseball practice and Megan works. Between all of that, I hope to enjoy the weekend. I am playing drums tomorrow night @ 5:15 Mass and then on Sunday @ 11 AM.

In the meantime, here is good news. ONLY ONE MORE payment on our truck next month before we will have more in our pocket. It is exciting to think about, though the money appears to be already spent.

I really like this button. I think I would like to buy one and wear it at a concert.

Easter Executes a Hit on Stats

As expected, with the Easter holiday, I didn't rip a lot of CDs. As of today, 4/9/12, here's my status:

Fall Asleep During WWE and Miss This?

Laying on the couch, watching WWE Raw, I fell asleep. Missed the last 15 minutes. Out comes the titan known as Brock Lesnar. I wish I would have seen it.

Still Burning

I reached the 40,000 MP3/WAV count Saturday night and have pushed on from that:
40143 File(s) 215,077,952,666 bytes
I kind of wish I knew how many I was going to end up with. Is 40000 1/2 of my collection? Is it 3/4ths? I have no idea. I have spindles upon spindles to convert. I have barely made a dent in the cassette to MP3 conversion. There is a lot to do. I did offer to do this type of project for my neighbor and if that happens, I will gain even more. The title of this post refers to ripping CDs as well as the condition of my arms. They are sunburnt. I may have been a little 'sun sick' last night b/c my head pounded really loud inside my head. I was kind of restless and don't really feel like I got a good night's sleep, but I'm awake, showered, and ready to face the world of documentation!
