Nagging Rarely Works

https://www.wsj.com/articles/spouse-eat-exercise-live-healthy-11649450203 - How to Get Your Spouse to Eat, Exercise and Live More Healthfully Not surprisingly, nagging rarely works. But there are alternatives that are more likely to have success.

This is the graphic associated with this article and it's funny (to me) that a heart (love) is at the end of the fishing pole. Has the author never met a man? What do you really think motivates a man to do something (anything) they normally wouldn't do? In my opinion, either you want to be healthy or not. If you do, you do the hard work associated with living a healthy lifestyle. Otherwise, you end up like me.

Why is that? Well, I try to walk regularly during the workday, but I don't always succeed. For example, in February 2022, the app on my cell phone tells me that I walked 267360 steps. In March, that number rose to 333,674 (largely in part to helping Alex move when I had 25737 steps in a single day!). As for this month, in April 2022, the app on my cell phone tells me that I have 193027 steps so far. Doing some simple math, I average 10,723.72222222222 steps a day in April 2022, which is reasonable. In fact, if I get to that number of steps per day, on April 30, I will end up with 321,711.6666666667 steps for the month, which is really good!

However, I need to bump up my daily walks with only 12 days remaining. To reach that goal, I will need 140,647 steps in 12 days. Doing more simple math, I need to average 11,720.58333333333 steps a day, which doesn't count the 2572 steps from my walk this AM. Today I need 14,292.58333333333 steps and then walk 11,720.58333333333 steps for April 19 - April 30.

This is all on me. It's up to me to achieve that number of steps. I will either do it or I will fail and, if I fail, it's because of me not doing what I've outlined in this post. I take 100% responsibility for my health.
