Have I Got it Wrong?

Don't write what you know about - write about what you *don't* know about? That started out as my first impression of this article, but the more I read, the more I realized that isn't what is being suggested. Basically, it is saying that if you *know* about Chicago, don't set your story in Perth, Australia, in an effort to make the setting more exotic. If you know about archery, don't make your protagonist an expert with a blow dart from South America, in an effort to make the weapon more exotic. Make your setting "Chicago" and the weapon of choice "a bow and arrow" because it's okay - you know about it.

Or maybe, I'm just totally ready to go home for the week.
