Terrible Trend

From Iowa City Press Citizen One Iowan: Why I kept driving drunk http://dmreg.co/28XujFD WATERLOO, Ia. — Debi Nelson is 43 and lives in a two-bedroom apartment on the second floor of a building that has seen better days. She doesn’t own a vehicle, typically walking the seven-tenths of a mile to work and back. She also walks to the store when she needs groceries. If the weather is bad or she needs to go farther, she tries to get a ride with a relative or friend — or she just doesn't go.Over the past 15 years, much of the money Nelson has earned has gone toward paying off expenses tied to her three arrests for drunken driving. Her first conviction cost her nearly $27,000 — including the SUV she lost when she flipped it on its side on a snowy road.
