Let's Call the Whole Thing Off

On LinkedIn, the question was raised as to whether to use "The screen displays" or "The screen appears" in technical documentation. Years ago, I ranted about using "displays" as my preference. Today, I have a different outlook / perspective. Why not just jump to the crucial aspect of what needs to be communicated to the user? Apparently, Helen Peck, whom I've never met, agreed with me:
