Playing Drums At Church
That's me playing drums and Karen singing (furthest left side in the picture below) at 515 Mass on Saturday, January 26, 2019:
What Irks Me
Happy Wednesday! Following the path laid out by New York, Democrats in Virginia [are] Push[ing] For Legalizing Abortion During Child Birth. What is this world coming to? Like, seriously? What irks me is how the Governor of NY is a Catholic. Why would a Christian support abortion?!?
Here's the text from the link:

Pro-Choice Virginia Delegate Member Deletes Twitter Account After Pushing Late-Term Abortion Bill
Here's the text from the link:
This really is unreal. Democrats in the Virginia House, led by Kathy Tran, wants to pass a bill that would make last minute, not just late term, abortions the law. It is actually infanticide. You don’t have to take my word for it. You can hear it from the sponsor of the legislation who admits her legislation would allow abortion even after dilation and delivery begin.
Democrats claim Donald Trump is a monster, but they keep showing how monstrous they really are.
Gabriella noted earlier that, once she was exposed, she deleted her Twitter account to avoid encountering outrage from Virginia voters. Under her proposed law, she could probably just abort them.

Final 5 Dates
I'll never know what it feels like to wake up on a Tuesday morning and know that there are only 5 more gigs remaining on the concert tour on which I'm playing drums. Tomorrow night @ Gabe's had best NOT be cancelled due to the crazy cold temps outside!!

Can't Help but S & D on a Monday in a Halo
I really like seeing the above video in light of knowing where that tune began...
As kind of a sideways tangent, I noticed the white board on the couch in the room where the recording people are. I wanted to know if there was anyone else who had associated the 'working titles' with the 'final titles' and that inquiry led me to this video:

Ghost Picks Met Setlist
I can go with the majority of what Ghost's Tobias Forge picked for his dream Metallica setlist. There are two lists within this post: Forge's list and my list. Read both.
I would swap out "Fight Fire with Fire" for either "Spit Out the Bone" or "The Judas Kiss" or "All Nightmare Long." I would

Intro: The Ecstasy Of Gold
- Battery - “It is such a great opener. They’d play it as they did on the Master Of Puppets tour; the intro is recorded and they arrive and launch into that riff.”
- Creeping Death - “They used to open with this a lot, and I’m sticking it in the set early. They’ve not played it as much recently, so I’m bringing it back.”
- Of Wolf And Man - “I’m not sure they play this very often. But I love it, especially that howling midsection. That’s a great crowd-participation part.”
- Welcome Home (Sanitarium) “They’ve put this early in the set for years. It works brilliantly after Of Wolf And Man as a cleanser, as we’re about to go into a Ride The Lightning extravaganza…”
The RTL extravaganza
“This is a very special part of the set. Playing side-A of Ride The Lightning in full. Culminating in Fade To Black, which brings the pace down a little, but it’s a really important song in Metallica’s career. It showed even that early, they were willing to go to places that their peers were not.”
- Fight Fire With Fire
- Ride The Lightning
- For Whom The Bell Tolls
- Fade To Black
- Blackened “I’m not the biggest fan of …And Justice For All, but I wanted to have this in there. And this would just lift the place up again.”
- Until It Sleeps “I really didn’t like the more rock’n’roll and blues-based material that Metallica went on to do, so I’ve kept quite far away from that period. But even I have to admit that this is a brilliant song, even though it’s from an album that I am really not a fan of.”
- One “I’ve created a very specific setlist that leans heavily on the period of Metallica I have most fondness for, namely the first five albums.”
- Master Of Puppets “This would end the first part of the set on a high. We’re going out with two true heavy metal classics here.”
Encore
- Am I Evil? “At this point, Am I Evil? is basically a Metallica song. It’s also very important to show Diamond Head’s influence on Metallica.”
- Last Caress “This has been a very dark and doomy Metallica set, so I wanted to have a brighter and more fun song, which this is… obviously despite the lyrical content!”
- Enter Sandman “The all-time greatest banger you can have. You can say whatever you like, but you can’t argue with this song.”
My List
- Battery - I'd be okay with this as a set opener. I love the acoustic guitar intro.
- Creeping Death - I'd be okay with this as it is a great crowd participation tune.
Of Wolf And Man- "Atlas Rise!" instead.Welcome Home (Sanitarium)- "Halo on Fire" instead. The RTL extravaganza- Terrible idea. I can see where this would be cool if they were going to play "all" of an album, but the first two tunes take the place of other tunes I'd rather hear.Fight Fire With Fire- "Motorbreath" instead.Ride The Lightning- "The Frayed Ends of Sanity" instead.- For Whom The Bell Tolls - Good choice.
Fade To Black- "Sad But True" instead.- Blackened - Good choice.
Until It Sleeps- "Dirty Window" instead.- All Nightmare Long" has to be in my dream setlist.
One- "Seek & Destroy" instead.Encore
Am I Evil?Master Of Puppets instead moves to the first encore.- Last Caress - Good choice, but I'd probably squeeze in "One" as well. Maybe jump from the end of "Last Caress" directly into the fast part of "One"
- Enter Sandman - Good choice.

10 Best of Max
The 10 best Max Cavalera albums, chosen by Richie Cavalera
Warning: Adult language if you understand the vocals
10. Soulfly – Ritual
“The last few Soulfly albums felt the same to me, but bringing in Josh Wilbur for Ritual made a huge difference. Max had so much fire in him and I think that came from a lot of the new members getting comfortable. Zyon [Cavalera, drummer] is just kicking ass now!”9. Sepultura – Roots
“Roots is the Sepultura album that will be remembered forever. It was the real breakout of that tribal style – the first time anyone had ever heard that in metal, in my opinion. And Roots Bloody Roots is so catchy that you’ll probably hear it in an elevator one day.”8. Sepultura – Chaos A.D.
“That was their ground-breaker. They went outside their box a lot more on Chaos A.D. with Nomad and covering The Hunt. We Who Are Not as Others just has a whole different vibe to it. Plus, you have Andy Wallace’s production, which I think is some of the best ever!”Warning: Adult language if you understand the vocals
7. Cavalera Conspiracy – Inflikted
“This felt like where Max would have taken Sepultura after Roots. Reuniting with Iggor [Cavalera, ex-Sepultura drummer and Max’s brother] and getting Joe [Duplantier] from Gojira on bass just made it such a standout! People from the Roots era will dig it and it’s the first thing Max and Iggor did in ten years, so it has that special appeal, as well.”6. Killer Be Killed – Killer Be Killed
“I knew Killer Be Killed would be something different. It had more mainstream-type songs, which Max had never had the chance to do. The band were actually just together in Arizona to work on some new tracks, so I think we’ll have another Killer Be Killed album next year.”5. Soulfly – Soulfly
“There were a couple different vibes on Soulfly. There was excitement because Max got to do what he wanted, but also a lot of anger from all the shit that went down [leaving Sepultura]. Pissed-off tracks like Eye for an Eye are going to be metal anthems forever now.”4. Nailbomb – Point Blank
“Nailbomb was new territory – you never saw side-projects back in those days. Point Blank was made at a very special time, where Alex [Newport, vocals, guitar and bass] was one of the most pissed-off people on the planet. Mixed with Max, it was just this perfect moment of crazy music.”3. Soulfly – Dark Ages
“We had just had an unexpected death in the family, so the tension and energy were running high for Dark Ages. It’s, to me, the standout Soulfly record; their last great one until Ritual. It just had a lot of great ideas and was really, really thrashing. It sucks that unfortunate events bring out the best music.”2. Sepultura – Beneath the Remains
“For me, Beneath the Remains is one of the top three most important metal albums. I think it changed metal forever. You have these classical-style solos and I think Sepultura perfected the breakdown with that album. Not many were doing that in the ‘80s: Slayer, Metallica and Sepultura.”1. Sepultura – Arise
“The success of Beneath the Remains put Sepultura in a place where they didn’t have to worry about the small things and could just focus on playing. So Arise has amazing breakdowns and solos like on Desperate Cry and Dead Embryonic Cells. You’re just speechless from the first song. It’s so good; exactly what heavy metal was meant to be.”1827 days
I listened to a WAV file yesterday on the 5 year anniversary of auditioning and then joining Uncle Rico the Band. It was bittersweet to do so. Part of me appreciates my time in that band; part of me resents that we only played one gig before disbanding. I have zero doubt in my mind that my drumming chops would be the best of my life if we were still actively practicing twice a month and gigging regularly; I am still sad we disbanded a mere 6 months later.
Some IA Hawks
Iowa Falls to MSU Last Night
Well. The stats don't lie. If you score 32 points in the first half and the other team scores 51 points, you're not going to win. You're just NOT going to win games when you shoot 38.6% and the other team shoots 52%.
Iowa took 19 more shots than MSU. If 10 of those go in, that's 20 points . . . and a victory.
Iowa took 24 3 point shots and only 5 went in. If 7 more go in - to put them at 50%, which is greater than MSU's 3 point shot percentage, that's 21 points . . . and a victory.
Here are some more stats.
Source: http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/matchup?gameId=401082408
Iowa goes up to the Twin Cities next to play Minnesota in a very tough environment. There are a total of 11 games remaining. Iowa is 16 - 4 overall & 5 - 4 in the Big Ten. They need to stay above 50% in the Big Ten. Here are there remaining games over the next 45 days.
Then they hit the Big Ten Tournament on 3/13. A lot of basketball in those 11 games. Iowa needs to focus on playing 440 minutes of tough basketball. It can't be 400 minutes, 380 minutes or even 360 minutes - they must play their best basketball game every minute of every game. They can make mistakes on the court, but they cannot allow those mistakes to define their season.

Halestorm and ITM and 2 Others
I think I'm getting old.
When I first looked at the concert announcement below, of the 4 bands listed, only Halestorm was interesting to me. At a Five Finger Death Punch concert (I think it was that one), I saw In This Moment as a warm-up band and while I enjoyed the theatrics and the "Blood" tune that Rock 108 used to play a lot, I don't feel compelled to watch them again. I was unfamiliar with Palaye Royale and Beasto Blanco (not Reasto Rianco like it says in the words directly above "Thursday, May 9th in the screenshot below) until I looked up the videos below.
As I mentioned, I used the words on the poster to find the 4th band because when I used the words, I had "No results found for "Reasto Rianco" when I used Google.com to locate information about the band.

I'm breaking my standard for youtube.com videos and only including the link to the first tune I listened to by this band. It was called Death Rattle and I was going to embed it on this post. However, after I had embedded the video, I decided I didn't like the preview image. Don't get me wrong - I like the tune as much, if not more, than the Grind tune above. You can (and should) listen to it by clicking here: Beasto Blanco's "Death Rattle".

No Metallica Because He's a Christian
Honestly, I am divided about how the pitcher who walked into the baseball stadium with "Enter Sandman" playing as his entrance music doesn't listen to Metallica for religious reasons. He says in the following article - ‘Enter Sandman’ Pitcher Mariano Rivera Won’t Listen to Metallica for Religious Reasons - the following:
The article doesn't address what music he does listen to, which begs the question: if he were introduced to a Christian metal band, would he not listen to it? Would he dismiss an entire genre because of his Christian beliefs even if there were bands that were in that genre that are Christian? Would he listen to any of the bands in this list of the 10 Best Christian Metal Bands or would he just say, "No. Their music is heavy metal. I don't listen to heavy metal because I am Christian."
I have known of people who were like Mariano Rivera - in fact, I am very similar to him as I don't watch horror movies because I am ignorant of their value. In my opinion, Mariano Rivera is as ignorant about heavy metal as I am about horror movies. Or about Quentin Tarantino movies. Or Cohen Brothers movies. Or Bollywood movies. Or "The Fast and The Furious" movies. Or the Harry Potter movies. Or the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
And the list goes on and on. My ignorance has led me to make a judgement about an entire genre (horror) or an entire set of work from a director (Tarantino, Cohen) or all the movies that are not made in Hollywood, CA, USA (Bollywood) or an entire franchise (Fast / Furious, Harry Potter, Pirates). Instead of claiming I don't watch any of those because I am Christian, I claim I don't watch any of those because I don't like them. Period. End of story.
Going back to Mariano Rivera, while I realize that Wikipedia is not considered a "source" for information because anyone can change the information, it is still the easiest place to go to get a list of Christian metal artists, which is what this page is: List of Christian metal artists. The following is a list of all the bands on that page that I copied into a MS Word file. That file had 11 pages because there are 439 bands listed. While I recognize a few of the bands listed - Beartooth (very interesting as that's one of Alex's favorite bands), Skillet (who I've seen in concert at least 3 times (Moline, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines), and Brian Welch (Korn's guitarist) - it strikes me as a shame that he dismisses an entire genre.
But it's okay for me to dismiss genres and franchises. Get the hypocrisy?
After all, what genre of music doesn't have Christian artists?
Rap does.
Pop does.
Metal does, as demonstrated in the list below.
I don't know if "Christian jazz" is a genre or not.
Anyways, here's the list from Wikipedia. I removed all the hyperlinks because I didn't want to be responsible for the content on that page. This is a snapshot of the page, used to illustrate my point. Use the link above if you want to read the relevant Wikipedia page about one of the following 439 artists.
Despite being eternally attached to “Enter Sandman,” Rivera actually isn’t a fan of Metallica, as his Christian beliefs keep him away from heavy metal. “With all due respect to the guys, I’ve never been to one of [their shows],” Rivera told the NY Post. “As a Christian, with all due respect to Metallica, I don’t listen to that kind of music.”
The article doesn't address what music he does listen to, which begs the question: if he were introduced to a Christian metal band, would he not listen to it? Would he dismiss an entire genre because of his Christian beliefs even if there were bands that were in that genre that are Christian? Metallica on Dinner Tabs, Favorite Song & Favorite City
While this is 4 years old - it was published on Jan 21, 2015 - I think it's cool to hear the members of Metallica talking . . . despite Hetfield's non-answers....

Some More Acoustic Bayside
Even though this remix of Duality was released in 2008, I JUST NOW found out about it! And I call myself a Bayside Evangelist because . . . I don't know that they released that in 2008, which, yes, is 11 years ago.

Inkcarceration Looks AWESOME!
This looks SO awesome!
Want to know the sad thing about it? I don't know who would go with me to see this concert, other than Alex. It'd be a day-long drive to get to the concert. Also, I noticed that Cleveland, OH, which is where the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is located, is under 2 hours away from this concert. Thus, to me, if I am that close to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, it would make sense to go see that as well. Thus, if the concert is on a Friday - Saturday - Sunday, it would make sense to go through the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame prior to the concert. It'd be a neat plan to drive out to OH on Tuesday, July 9, going through the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Wednesday, July 10, and then driving to Mansfield, OH, on Thursday, July 11. Since it's a short drive between Cleveland and Mansfield, the rest of Thursday, July 11, could be a cushion to relax and rest up prior to the next 3 days. Part of the concert seems to be to tour the prison that the Shawshank Redemption movie was filmed, which is my favorite movie of all time.
Sounds like a great plan!
