We are looking for professionals who want to join our Documentation Group to help our community to create low-code software. Mendix Documentation (https://docs.mendix.com/) plays a key role in enabling our community to take advantage of our products. The Documentation Group is part of Mendix R&D, demonstrating a commitment to treat documentation as an essential part of the development process. As the Mendix Platform grows, we need to ensure our documentation remains up-to-date with all the developments.

We are looking for a Technical Writer who can learn about Mendix and document features, improvements, dependencies, and everything a Mendix developer needs to know. You'll help Mendix drive digital innovation by …

  • Learning about the Mendix Platform so you can provide our global developer community with user-friendly documentation

  • Taking ownership of documentation for specific platform components and becoming a subject matter expert for that documentation

  • Learning our tools, processes, and standards while promoting our values of accuracy, transparency, and collaboration

  • Collaborating with Developers, Product Managers, and members of the Mendix community to draft, edit, and verify documentation

  • Creating documentation that fits into the whole Mendix user journey, which means collaborating with other teams working on developer learning experiences and better UX

  • Addressing and resolving feedback from the Mendix community

  • Keeping up with product roadmaps and business objectives to determine documentation needs

  • Staying proactive by looking for opportunities to improve the documentation wherever possible and by continuously learning how to excel in your profession

You're the innovator we need if you …

  • Have four or more years of technical writing experience

  • Have a passion for language and technology with strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Can translate complex technical ideas into text that is accessible for a global audience

  • Speak and write English fluently at a near-native level

  • Have experience in a software development context or a strong interest in learning more about software development

  • Are self-directed and able to find answers independently

  • Can follow style guidelines to keep the documentation quality consistent

  • Are well-organized and flexible and able to manage your own time and workload

  • Excel in collaborating across various teams and departments

  • Have a curious and inquisitive mind and a willingness to learn from your successes and failures

And it is even better if you …

  • Understand how to use Git and Markdown for documentation purposes

  • Have used Jira or other project management tools

  • Have experience in Content Management Systems (CMS) and related workflows

  • Are a resident of the European Union

Work in Manila and Your Boss is in Burlington, MA

I don't think I've ever mentioned any job that is based in Manila in the 13,022 posts on this blog. 

The manager for this position is in Burlington, MA, which is a Boston suburb. Can you imagine how much better it would be if they hired a resident of the USA (for example, me) instead of a Technical Writer in Manila? A USA-based Technical Writer would be less than a drive away whereas actually going to Manila, Phillipines, would be a 33 hour, 20 minute plane ride.

Avid Technology is looking for a technical writer capable of producing user manuals as well as software installation and system configuration documentation. In this role you will work closely with Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Product Management teams. This position will be based in Manila, Philippines and the applicant will report to the documentation manager in Burlington, Massachusetts. The applicant is expected to work within the standard operating hours of the US, East Coast (UTC −04:00).

While this is a technical writing position, Avid might consider applicants that have very strong familiarity with the Avid products described below and limited technical writing experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Produce user-focused materials that clearly describe the operation of Avid software

  • Produce administrator-focused installation and system configuration manuals that focus on deeper, more technical concepts and processes

  • Follow existing processes for updating documentation and tracking changes for the lifetime of the assigned product

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Fluent speaking, reading, and writing in English (all documentation is written in English)

  • Must possess STRONG organizational skills. Applicant must be able to manage multiple, simultaneous products/projects and deliver under deadlines with minimal supervision

  • B.S or B.A in engineering or technical communications with sufficient relevant work experience

  • 2+ years of experience as a technical writer

ADDITIONAL DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Avid audio products. Including, but not limited to Avid VENUE, Avid S-series studio controllers, Avid Control Desktop, Avid Pro Tools

  • Experience with MadCap Flare / MadCap Central (primary), (structured) Adobe FrameMaker (secondary)

  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator

  • Familiarity with multiple operating systems including Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Professional experience / domain knowledge in audio recording, music production, and post-production workflows highly valued

  • Knowledgeable of data security topics such as token-based authentication, data encryption, zero trust architectures
