I Hope I Can Play Drums When I'm 79!

Not to be disrespectful, but I didn't remember that Ginger Baker was still alive. I thought about him when I saw that this tour - The Music of Cream - 50th Anniversary Tour - on Saturday, November 10, 2018 - at the Paramount Theatre - Cedar Rapids, IA. Songs we are playing in the Unnamed Band

Around four years ago, I wrote a post called "Ideal Band" and detailed what I thought would be an ideal setlist. But things have changed and I'm able to adapt. Joe, Matthew, Brian Guitar, and I have rehearsed since late June. We rehearsed today from 2-4.
  1. Knocking on Heaven's Door. This is the Dylan version, but I play the drums like the Guns-n-Roses version.
  2. Sunshine of Your Love
  3. Rocking in the Free World

And, next rehearsal, we plan to add Petty's "American Girl," U2's "Pride (In the Name of Love)", and Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Pride and Joy." These are not the only songs we have played around with, but the ones that have seemed to sift through the strainer. We are interested in writing originals as well.

Editor's Note: There were many ideas for a band name for this band, including "Hairy Eyeball" and "Scary Robots." We eventually settled on Lou's Classic Ride.

Two Jams on the Radio

First, KRNA actually played this song on the radio while I was pumping gas into Karen's van @ Casey's. I remember when this came out, it was "so rebellious" for the same band that had won over the world with "Paradise City" and "Sweet Child of Mine" to sing about murder. There's a cassette of Old Stew playing this song at rehearsal in 1992.

Then, on the way home, The Fox 100.7 played this song:

But it actually sounded more like this. I have always remembered that I auditioned for a band (on drums) in Urbana. This is one of the songs we played and I hadn't heard the song before. I remember the singer and guitarist trying to teach where the snare hits were. I know I totally flubbed up the audition on this song.... I think they had a tape of it and had me listen to it, then we tried it again. Never played with them beyond that...
