This is Insane

2000 CDs & 100 Blue-Rays for $15,000

I have 6000 CDs

I have 6000 CDs. While my CDs are on 60 x 100 capacity spindles, I don't know if I would be able to sell my CDs for $1000.

Pertains to a Proposed Road Trip to Indianapolis

Recently, there was a discussion about a trip to Indianapolis, IN. I made a mistake when I said, aloud, that I didn't have a strong desire to go with the group that was in the discussion. In fact, I volunteered to stay home so a different person could go in my place.

I was a fool for saying that. I was just looking at the indianapolis > for sale > cds / dvds / vhs - by owner & https://indianapolis.craigslist.org > for sale > musical instruments - by owner pages and, of course, it did not take long for me to find two things I would buy if I were in the Indy area right now:

So, of course, I'm going to find CDs for sale. However, the really good deal is the Yamaha drums. It has a real hihat stand and 4 cymbals, which is one additional cymbal than the Yamaha set I play at Saint Thomas More at 515 Mass. Not only that, there are 5 drums in Indy with a red knob. The red knob is very important as it allows tuning the drum sound by turning the knob. The Yamaha set I play at Saint Thomas More at 515 Mass has 4 drums and only 1 (in the snare position) has a red knob - the other three drums are simple rubber pads. I can change the sound striking the pad makes by editing the drum within the "brain" that comes with the set. On top of that, honestly, $1300 is not a bad price.

Another option, and closer to home for sure is a Yamaha DTX700 set for sale in Tiffin, which is not even 5 miles from my house. While it is listed at $2000, the ad has been posted for a month so, to me, there is a possibility that the urge to sell the set and "get it out of the house" is greater than demanding $2000 for a selling price.

I will also say that the model - Yamaha DTX700 - is a newer model than the Yamaha DTXTreme III for sale in Indy. However, the pads for the Yamaha DTX700 do not have the red knob and, frankly, if I were looking to actually purchase a set in the near-term, then, yes, I would choose the Yamaha DTXTreme III in Indy, just for the red knob.

I also noticed in the picture with the closeup of the bass drum pad that there is noticeable discoloration. This is not too big of a deal as whenever any beater - whether it is attached to a bass drum pedal or whether it is a drumstick - strikes any drum, there is a small fraction of the surface that is being removed with each stroke - this is the way of the drum, to expand upon a phrase repeated throughout The Mandalorian series on Disney+ so I don't really consider it to be an overwhelming negative. However, a difference between acoustic drums and electronic drums is that with an acoustic drum, it is easy to stop by West Music or Guitar Center and purchase a new drum head for less than $50 to replace a worn drum head. However, that is not the case with an electronic set. I would have to replace the entire pad, which can be over $100 - and I'm offering very generalized dollar amounts on purpose, just to illustrate that replacing an electronic drum could cost twice as much as an acoustic drum head.

All of the things I would want to purchase in Indy could be sold by the time I would end up in Indy so, I guess, all of this is speculation.

Here's a bunch of CDs that were for sale but that I did not buy because, yep, COVID-19... sigh...

Happy is an Adjective

Mike Portnoy is the quadruple threat: he can sing, play drums, play bass, and play guitar.

I will never be able to do that.

Before watching the video below, here's what to look for:

No idea what all of that stuff is, but it's displayed awesomely!
How many CDs does he have in his collection?!? I sure would love the opportunity to convert each CD to MP3 for him!

Irks Me

On the iowa city > for sale > cds / dvds / vhs - by owner page, this ad irks me.
I don't care that they request a $10 cash minimum purchase - that's fine. What irks me is that, if I wanted to buy all of these CDs - I don't! - I would need to do math.

Math sucks.

(3 x $1) + (3 x $2) + (9 x $3) + (11 x $4) + (6 x $5) + (2 x $6) + (2 x $8) + (1 x $10) + (1 x $15) = $163.

Why not just say, "Or buy all of them for $150!"

Instead, (belch) I'm going to make you do math!

Not For Me

My ideal seller would not specify that there are different prices for different CDs. My ideal seller would post, "I have X number of CDs and I want $Y for them. If you want to buy my X CDs for $Y, this is my contact information." It's too much math - hee hee - to figure out how much this seller wants for all of the CDs so I'm not going to bother to figure it out.

Besides, asking any amount of $ for Van Halen's III album is insane. Expecting more for that album than RHCP's Blood Sugar Sex Magik is delusional.

4000 CDs for $.50 each is still a LOT OF MONEY!?!?

I have 50 spindles of 100 CDs each. I'm not going to pay $4000 to purchase another 4000 more. I get what the guy is trying to achieve. The seller has obviously worked hard to create their collection and now that it has come time to sell it, the seller wants to be reimbursed for the work that has been done. Frankly, though, if I had that seller's collection, I would probably accept $.50 / CD because, if there are $4000 CDs, that's still $2000. If I sold my 5000 CDs for $.50 / CD, I'd make $2500.

Very much related to owning an extensive CD collection, last weekend, I started re-ripping the 51st spindle. I did that because I have multiple "data" CDs with multiple albums on each. A "data" CD is different from a "music" CD in that I can play a "music" CD on a stereo CD player whereas a "data" CD doesn't play on a stereo. However, in a CD drive on a laptop or PC, you can access files on the "data" CD. When I copied files from the data CDs on Spindle 51, I didn't create a sub-folder for each data CD. Instead, I put all the folders at the root. It looks like what you see in this screenshot to the right of this text. The reason I don't like that is I cannot tell, just by looking at those folders, which data CD the album came from v. if the album came from a music CD, which also exist on the 51st spindle.

I do like complications it would seem!
That is why I am re-ripping the CDs on the 51st spindle. After that spindle is complete, I am going to have several more spindles to rip. If pressed to guess, I'd guess 500 more CDs. It's going to be a nice winter season project which I hope to kick into overdrive during the next few weeks.

As far as if I would sell my CD collection, I say no. I have the crazy idea that my spindles can be given away at my wake and/or funeral. I just hope there are at least 56 people that come to my wake and/or funeral!

26 CDs - 6 for $5?

I hate math, but I know that if I have 26 CDs with a "deal" of 6 for $5 ... it doesn't make sense. If you said you had 30 CDs and they were 6 for $5, then I'd know it makes sense. Divide 26 by 6 and you get 3.5, which is dumb. Sell 24 at 6 for $5 and that makes sense. These are all Christian musicians and you know, I know my CD collection is not strong in the Christian music genre. It's tempting...

CD's (as is): $1 each/ 6 for $5
1.       About a Mile: About a Mile
2.       Aiden: Our Gangs Dark Oath
