Van Halen I Biloxi, MS

https://youtu.be/ 5iR94rpjhtA - Van Halen - 24 July 1982 - Mississippi Coast Coliseum, Biloxi, Mississippi

From a Facebook post:
To my dear brother JJ, this one's for you. Here we have a totally unheard, un-circulated soundboard recording, capturing the Van Halen concert in Biloxi during their Diver Down tour (Hide Your Sheep tour) in 1982. Not even an audience recording of this show has circulated previously. Due to being so early in the tour, this is one of very few recordings that documents this earlier setlist arrangement, which would soon be significantly reorganized sometime between July 27th and 30th. This Biloxi recording starts a bit late, a little over a minute into Romeo Delight, but over half of the song was still captured. The first side of the 90 minute master tape runs only about 35 seconds into Somebody Get Me A Doctor, and while no songs are missing in between, it seems it took a while to realize to flip the tape because the second side doesn't start again until about a minute into Cathedral. Luckily, this recording captures the remainder of concert.

M-O-R-1988

If someone could organize a concert in 2022 with the following replacements, I would go.
  1. Replace Kingdom Come with The Pretty Reckless
  2. Replace Metallica with Lamb of God
  3. Replace Dokken with Shinedown
  4. Replace Scorpions with Korn
  5. Replace Van Halen with Def Leppard

Speaking of Van Halen

The 10 Best Uses of Van Halen Songs in Movies:

I'm Funny on a Monday

This article from Blabbermouth.net - Kingdom Come Might Have To 'Alter' Band Name In Order To Release New Music - caught my eye on Friday and, after reading it, I have this thought:

If Kingdom Come needs to change their name, I suggest Come Kingdom. If that is unacceptable, my second choice would be Come, Kingdom.

I got the idea from Wikipedia, which is where I learned the following:

[Kingdom Come] was due to tour the UK, supporting WASP, shortly after release of the second single, but split up before the tour commenced (ironically WASP also lost guitarist and co-founder Chris Holmes at the same time, meaning they also had to cancel the tour). ... In an interview, the band's members talk about the title of the album, saying that when you first look at the LP, you read "Kingdom Come", then, as you move your eyes downwards, you read "In your face". They laugh and say: "Kingdom come ... in your face, get it?", making an obscene joke or double entendre of it.

Honestly, I have not listened to a single Kingdom Come album since their second album, called In Your Face. I know they were on the Monsters of Rock tour with Dokken, Metallica, The Scorpions, and Van Halen in 1988, but I didn't attend that concert. I wish I would have. I wonder what it would have taken to get those 5 bands to tour again to celebrate the 25th anniversary of that tour in 2013. Eddie Van Halen was still alive.  This is a review of a concert from that tour that happened 30 years ago!: https://www.vhnd.com/2018/05/28/monsters-of-rock/

Also, I found out that the band Kingdom Come has released over 10 albums! (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_Come_(band)#Discography)

Editor's Note: While enjoying the first and second album by the band Kingdom Come, today is the first time the Kingdom Come label has ever been used on this blog.

Teasing What Might Have Happened

In addition to missing that the Ozzy Osbourne tour has been rebooked for 2022, I also missed that Van Halen Planned Reunion for Farewell Tour. Here's the awesome part about that article:
Among the plans were for major special guests like Foo Fighters and Metallica to join the band in select cities.

Maybe that means in some cities, it would be Foo Fighters and Van Halen and, in other cities, it would be Metallica and Van Halen but, consider for a moment, if it actually meant that it would be a triple bill of The Foo Fighters, Metallica AND Van Halen in all the cities, with ALL of the bands playing a "normal" set of 2 hours, plus add an opening act like Volbeat.
I would schedule the shows to be only on Saturdays, not during the week, which would allow plenty of time for getting things from stadium to stadium. Oh, by the way, yes, this tour would play Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City (just saying)...
Doors Open at Noon
    Volbeat at 1
        Volbeat End at 2
1 hour Stage Change
Foos at 3 PM [Setlist would not include "Times Like These"]
        Foos End 5 PM
1 hour Stage Change
Metallica at 6 PM [Setlist would not include "Enter Sandman"]
        Metallica done at 8 PM
1 hour Stage Change
Van Halen at 9 PM [Setlist would not include "Runnin' with the Devil"]
        Van Halen done @ 11
Jam Session with all bands 11 - 11:30, playing one tune from each band
    Volbeat - Devil's Bleeding Crown
Foo Fighters - Times Like These
            Metallica - Enter Sandman
Van Halen - Runnin' With the Devil
End of show

All Worthy of a Blog Post But Combined Because I Feel Like It

Sometimes learning three things through an email from Metal Injection is an easy way to group three things that could be three separate blog posts into a single blog post. For example, this email arrived yesterday and while Eddie Van Halen's health, James Hetfield's rehab status, and Robb Flynn lashing out at critics could each be separate posts, but, because I learned about these three things through an email from Metal Injection, an easy and fast way to translate the email to this blog is to group those three things into a single blog post.

Rollins

I don't believe I realized what a masterful speaker and storyteller Henry Rollins is. I have to believe that because I vaguely remember he did a concert in Des Moines within the last few years and when I read that he was going to be doing a concert, I didn't have any interest in investigating what it would be like.

I'm a dumb ASS for not doing so.

This video came up as a suggestion so I listened to it. I love the way he talks.

Warning! Henry Rollins is an adult and uses adult words!

After I listened to his stories about Van Halen and Diamond Dave, I wanted to hear more. The video below was set up to play next so I started listening to it.

I adore the first line - When I was 15 and heard the song "Iron Man," my life changed. It is precisely the type of opening sentence I want to write every time I write, whether for pleasure or in a Knowledge Article or in my Disaster Recovery documentation or within any technical writing content that crosses my desk today, tomorrow, and each workday thereafter for the next 16 years, 10 months, 1 week, 4 days (6160 days). The writing is captivating and entertaining and informative. Thus, for the next 9:26, listened to Henry Rollins.

Then I looked around for a youtube playlist of the album called Provoked and didn't find one. I did find the following videos. They will be living in my ears for the foreseeable future!

The Grunge Gold Rush Followed the Hair Metal Gold Rush Part II

This post is a continuation of Part I.
The point is, that when the author of this article about the "Grunge Gold Rush" wrote "Mike Gitter, a punk-rock specialist who was starting out as an A&R man for major label Atlantic Records, home of hair-metal veterans White Lion, Ratt and Mr. Big", he is too dismissive of an entire movement. White Lion, Ratt, and Mr. Big came out in different parts of the 'hair-metal' movement. Ratt came first, then White Lion, then Mr. Big. In fact, with Mr. Big, I can't call that band "hair-metal" with a straight face. Read the WikiPedia article here.

Maybe I should have sat down and formulated an outline to my arguments in this post because I've rambled quite a bit, all because I read this article: The Grunge Gold Rush Is there a lesson here? January 12, 20186:38 AM ET Steve Knopper

Editor's Note: An article relevant to this post lists the Top 10 Metal Albums of 1988.

10. Metallica, '...And Justice For All'
9. Napalm Death, 'From Enslavement to Obliteration'
8. Testament, 'The New Oder'
7. King Diamond, 'Them'
6. Danzig, 'Danzig'
5. Death, 'Leprosy'
4. Helloween, 'Keeper of the Seven Keys, Part II'
3. Iron Maiden, 'Seventh Son of a Seventh Son'
2. Slayer, 'South of Heaven'
1. Queensryche, 'Operation: Mindcrime'

In general, #10, #2, and #1 belong on the list, but unable to make a credible judgement about the other 7. Unlike other Internet music writers, this blog's editor has self-control! Read the entire article here. Also worth noting is the fact that the following labels were created for this post:
  • Napalm Death
  • King Diamond
  • Danzig
  • Death
which means these 6 bands have been mentioned elsewhere on this blog:

1. Metallica
2. Testament
3. Helloween
4. Iron Maiden
5. Slayer
6. Queensryche

60% is a passing score!
