My Life in 10 Songs

After reading Shinedown's Brent Smith - My Life in 10 Songs, I wonder what my list would look like. Before I could start making a list, I need to decide:
  1. am I going to list songs / poems that I wrote
  2. am I going to list songs / poems that others wrote
  3. am I going to create two lists
Stay tuned!

M-O-R-1988

If someone could organize a concert in 2022 with the following replacements, I would go.
  1. Replace Kingdom Come with The Pretty Reckless
  2. Replace Metallica with Lamb of God
  3. Replace Dokken with Shinedown
  4. Replace Scorpions with Korn
  5. Replace Van Halen with Def Leppard

Daylight Has Dawned Upon the World

For the record, Shinedown and The Pretty Reckless & DIAMANTE are playing in Des Moines next Tuesday in Des Moines. As of this moment, I don't have a ticket for the concert. Out of the 11 scheduled concerts at the Wells Fargo Arena, only 4 are interesting to me. I will say that while I have a red square around MercyMe, REO Speedwagon/Styx/Loverboy, and Greta Van Fleet, I would rank the concerts in the following order:

  1. Shinedown
  2. REO Speedwagon / Styx / Loverboy
  3. MercyMe
  4. Greta Van Fleet

The Shinedown show is next week so if I'm going, I need to jump on it.

Experiencing the Krutch that is 1000 Feet

I don't believe I had ever heard Thousand Foot Krutch ... until today. I listened to Shinedown's Threat to Survival on my YouTube Music app and, after the album, YouTube Music kept the party going by selecting other bands and other tunes that are, in YouTube Music's programming, similar to Shinedown. Therefore, when I started hearing this tune - https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=JQplqa0z5zY - in my ears, I had to look at the band name. I did so to confirm what band I was listening to because the tune sounded so much like Linkin Park. I thought I had discovered a Linkin Park B-side tune or a newer tune that Rock 108 has not overplayed yet. Instead, I discovered what Thousand Foot Crutch sounds like!

New Shinedown on the Way

  • If
    • I attend Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, FL, in May 2022
  • THEN
    • I will likely hear new Shinedown tunes in concert
  • ELSE
    • I will not hear new Shinedown tunes in concert in 2022 as there are zero Shinedown concerts in my part of the USA scheduled (as of now) in 2022, which would result in me being very sad..

Horrible SItuation

Speaking of going through horrible situations in life, the video below came to my attention at a Shinedown concert in February 2013 at the Shinedown / Three Days Grace / P.O.D. concert in Moline, IL.

Roughly 6 months passed before I I attended the Carnival of Madness: Shinedown / Skillet / Papa Roach / In This Moment / We As Human concert in Cedar Rapids, IA, USA on Sunday, August 25, 2013. I wrote a concert review for Dailyvault.com and mentioned Amanda Todd's suicide in October 2012. In that review, I also included a link to the video below but that link is broken so I did a search on youtube.com and found the video below.

Before you watch it, know that it has been flagged on youtube.com with the following warning:

To quote Dinie09, a youtube user I've never met, "Always a good day when Shinedown releases new music videos/songs."

Powerful Testimony about Shinedown

I've likely included this video elsewhere, but I'm embedding it again due to the fact that it provides context for a powerful testimony about Shinedown and, at a much broader level, about how powerful music can be in someone's life. So, here's the video:

And here's the very moving testimony, verbatim, from the comments of the above video, from ooKILLFASToo:

I am a soldier in the United States Army and I found myself struggling with depression and some other personal issues. I was granted permission by my command team that I could go home on leave this Christmas, 2018. I had some struggles while I was there and the day I was leaving my uncle told Alexa to play Shinedown radio. I will never forget those words. This song came on after a few songs before it had played. When I heard this song I instantly feel in love with it. This songs is what I need everyday in my life. People don't need therapists and groups for help. They need someone to give them a nudge and let them know that they can do it. Life is hard, the best year of my life was when I moved to Massachusetts to live with my Aunt and Uncle and finish out my last year of high school. I ended up running cross country and never ran before. I actually found out that I was really good at it. When I graduated I did not know how much I loved it until the thoughts a creped in. I love my old team but when I got to that low point heard this song it motivated me. I am now going to start working on my degree in history and I am going to go to teach for a high school AP history class after my last 4 year contract which is this one, I will also be try to become a cross country coach. This song helped me and I praise the band for it.
