The Closest This Comes is to Chicago on a Saturday

From RATT, TOM KEIFER, SKID ROW And SLAUGHTER Join Forces For 'The Big Rock Summer Tour' comes the news about a massive tour this summer. It features Ratt, Tom Kiefer (vocalist for Cinderella), Skid Row (without Sebastian Bach), and Slaughter.
While I won't go to Chicago to see those bands, I would go to see them if they were playing at, say, the Riverside Casino.

Loads of Talent on the Same Stage

The talent on this stage is abundant. When this was recorded in 1990, Guns-n-Roses, Skid Row, and Metallica were the hottest bands around. That said, this video is immensely difficult to watch because of the poor quality. I wish there would be an actual "official" release of it with an improved sound mix.

SB Coming to D!

Sebastian Bach is going to play Skid Row's 1989 Debut Album In Full and the tour includes a stop in Dubuque, IA, at the Q Casino on Saturday, September 21, 2019. One thing to note is who Bach has touring with him:

The tour will run from August 30 to November 2 and will feature a backing band of Sebastian Bach guitarist and vocalist Brent Woods, Fates Warning drummer Bobby Jarzombek, and UFO bassist Rob DeLuca.

And here are the tour dates in the Midwest:

Sep. 13 – Harrison, OH – The Blue Note
Sep. 14 – Flint, MI – The Machine Shop
Sep. 15 – Grand Rapids, MI – The Intersection
Sep. 18 – Kansasville, WI – 1175
Sep. 19 – St. Louis, MO – Delmar Hall
Sep. 20 – Lombard, IL – Brauer House
Sep. 21 – Dubuque, IA – Q Casino - this is on a UNI football game Saturday
Sep. 22 – Lexington, KY – Manchester Music Hall

Bobby Jarzombek is a MONSTER drummer! I will definitely start looking for videos after the tour begins for videos to confirm that he is still slaying on the drums. I know of him from his days in Riot. It was Scott Golden, who was the lead singer in my first band Assume (later renamed to Azalea) who introduced them to me. I listened to Thundersteel many times 'back in the day' and then, in 1990, I purchased The Privilege of Power on cassette - I embedded both albums below.

In summary, if I end up seeing Sebastian Bach, I will be very happy because I will see Jarzombek as well.

Bach Gets It

How many bands cannot reunite their most successful lineup due to death?
  1. Pantera
  2. Cream
  3. Alice in Chains
  4. Nirvana
  5. Led Zeppelin
  6. Linkin Park
  7. Stone Temple Pilots
  8. Soundgarden
  9. Metallica
... and the list goes on and on. Skid Row has all 5 members alive and yet, the persistent calls for a reunion with Sebastian Bach are going ignored, per SKID ROW Bassist On Persistent Calls For Reunion With SEBASTIAN BACH: 'Some Fans Just Don't Like Change, And That's A Shame' I would argue, though, that it's not about accepting or not accepting change - it's about there being an opportunity right now to play a gig or two - maybe just have Sebastian Bach come up on stage for a song or two at one gig, without previously announcing it is going to happen, just to say, "Know what? We hear the fans and we'll do this for the fans. It's not permanent, but it's a taste of what could have been had things not gone the way they did." I might even have Bach sing a tune from a post-Bach album. For his part, it seems Sebastian Bach "gets" what is slipping through their hands as the same article quotes him saying the following:

Bach has consistently expressed his desire to reunite with his former bandmates, telling Loudwire in 2016: "I don't have any reason why not to do that. I have no animosity towards anybody in SKID ROW, and the fact that we're all, five of us, still alive in this world is a pretty amazing feat. So I would someday definitely like to hear the five guys who made those records play live together again. Yes, I would. 'Cause I'm a fan too." He added: "I'm up for it, if they are."

Too Sweet of a Setlist

I went with Matthew on Friday night to see Serbi's band - Cocked n Loaded - at J&A Tap in North Liberty. We arrived shortly before the first set. It was great to talk to one of my oldest friends - we met in the fall of 1985 on the Kennedy High School marching band practice field. There were 4 sophomores that year - one was too preppy, one seemed like he did drugs, and then the two of us. He was the only non-family member groomsman in our wedding in August 1993 & I was a groomsman in his wedding in September 1993.

Anyways, this is the setlist they played. "From Out of Nowhere" was a great choice for an opener. I can safely say I've never heard a band in a bar play that tune.

1) From out of nowhere
2) You've got another thing coming
3) Rock You like a hurricane

9)I don't believe in love
10) Youth gone wild

6) Rock of ages
7) Somebody save me
8) Sweet child of mine
9) Tears are falling
10) You're in love
11) Why I'm here

Rocking

I don't think I saw all of the episodes of this VH1 show, but I do remember seeing the first one where the band members meet for the first time.

Alcohol got Him into Too Much Trouble

Somewhere, in an alternate reality, former Skid Row vocalist Sebastian Bach is still putting on legendary shows with Skid Row and the fact that Skid Row has a different vocalist has never been a reality. Also, in that alternate reality, Bach continues to drink like a fish. As he describes in both this article and the embedded video below, Sebastian Bach is sober.

From the article, I've snipped some quotes that I feel are applicable to my own sobriety and, quite possibly, the following quotes are out of context as he was talking about being a lead singer in the music business and I am talking about my current life.

Quotes:
  • You know the game Monopoly? Do not pass 'go' – do not collect $200, go straight to jail? That's what drinking is for me. I just get pretty crazy on it, and I don't know when to stop. Some people can be social and have a drink now and then. When I start drinking, I don't know when to stop.
  • I drank .... for [roughly, 22 years]. And I loved it. But you have to make a choice of whether you wanna be .... your best.
  • So I just wanna be the best I can be. That's pretty much it. I just feel physically better, and I look physically better. When I [got messed] up every night, I look[ed] like pure hell, like anybody else does.

What I Missed... and Idiots and Texas Hippies...Ship Rocked and other stuff...

There was a point in time where I considered driving up to the Twin Cities to see Metallica in concert, with Lamb of God opening. If I had gone and got tickets prior to the show selling out, this is the show I would have seen last week:
10/13/09 Target Center, Minneapolis, MN
That Was Just Your Life
The End of the Line
Ride The Lightning
Holier Than Thou
One
Broken, Beat & Scarred
Cyanide
Sad But True
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
All Nightmare Long
Kirk Solo #1
The Day That Never Comes
Master Of Puppets
Fight Fire With Fire
Kirk Solo #2
Nothing Else Matters
Enter Sandman
Encore Jam
Die Die My Darling
Motorbreath
Seek and Destroy

And in other news, I found this:

My friend Phil shared this video of the Texas Hippie Coalition on his Facebook page:

I LIKE that one and I like this one too!
