Daylight Has Dawned Upon the World

For the record, Shinedown and The Pretty Reckless & DIAMANTE are playing in Des Moines next Tuesday in Des Moines. As of this moment, I don't have a ticket for the concert. Out of the 11 scheduled concerts at the Wells Fargo Arena, only 4 are interesting to me. I will say that while I have a red square around MercyMe, REO Speedwagon/Styx/Loverboy, and Greta Van Fleet, I would rank the concerts in the following order:

1. Shinedown
2. REO Speedwagon / Styx / Loverboy
3. MercyMe
4. Greta Van Fleet

The Shinedown show is next week so if I'm going, I need to jump on it.

Todd Sucherman in my Future

REO Speedwagon, Styx, and Loverboy are touring and will stop in Des Moines, IA, at Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday, September 4, 2022, as well as at TaxSlayer Center on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. I hope to see the concert in Des Moines. It is Labor Day weekend so the next day is a holiday. I was thinking about how many times I've seen these bands.

• Loverboy - this will be the 3rd time I will see them.

1. 1986-08-28 with Dokken opening in Cedar Rapids.
2. 2015-07-03 in Coralville Park
3. 2022-09-06 in Des Moines

• For Styx, this will be the 2nd time I will see them.

1. 2004-05-05 Memphis in May
2. Todd Sucherman drum clinic at West Music within the last decade (I think)
3. 2022-09-06 in Des Moines

• For REO Speedwagon, this will be the first time I've ever seen them in concert.

Here are some pictures of Todd Sucherman in action. He is a tremendously awesome drummer!!

Missing This

We are going to Balltown on Saturday, July 3, 2021, which is the same night that Styx is playing in Dubuque. This is a recent setlist:

Styx in WI Dells

Remember back in November 2017, when I wrote about how Karen was going to Wisconsin Dells, WI, for a "Women's Weekend Away" and that Styx happened to be playing in town that weekend? I just came across these videos from the gig I didn't see. Todd Sucherman, their drummer, was on fire that night!!

Going to Blaze on This

This weekend, Karen is going to Wisconsin Dells, WI, for the 'women's weekend away' and Styx is playing a concert in Wisconsin Dells this weekend.

It would be cool to see, but not for $54.95, although hearing this tune live would be fantastic! Fun fact about the tune:

---

The composition features a number of time signature changes. The intro and outro are performed in 6/8 time, led by Shaw's acoustic guitar tracks and Dennis DeYoung's synthesizer melodies. The vocal sections of the song are in 4/4. The instrumental features a synthesizer solo in 7/4 time, before returning to 4/4 for the final chorus. After a brief intro recap, there is a brief break with two measures of 5/8 time, and then a return to the 6/8 meter, with another synthesizer solo, before fading out.

Anyways, knowing that Karen will be in the same city as Todd Sucherman (their drummer) led me to the following videos:

Bands with History

The twists and turns of being in a multi-platinum band must be mind-numbing.

• Consider Styx and the account of the band's meltdown that happened 32 years ago. While the band exists today, its classic lineup was in turmoil with the success of their awesome release "Kilroy was Here." It's a fascinating article.
• Consider Pantera, which doesn't exist anymore, and the news that the grave of their guitarist Dimebag Darrell was desecrated. It's awful enough to know that you will never see the person in the grave again. To then go and vandalize a final resting place must be a thousand kicks to the gut. It sends a clear message that your pain is insignificant.
