Halestorm and ITM and 2 Others

I think I'm getting old.

When I first looked at the concert announcement below, of the 4 bands listed, only Halestorm was interesting to me. At a Five Finger Death Punch concert (I think it was that one), I saw In This Moment as a warm-up band and while I enjoyed the theatrics and the "Blood" tune that Rock 108 used to play a lot, I don't feel compelled to watch them again. I was unfamiliar with Palaye Royale and Beasto Blanco (not Reasto Rianco like it says in the words directly above "Thursday, May 9th in the screenshot below) until I looked up the videos below.

As I mentioned, I used the words on the poster to find the 4th band because when I used the words, I had "No results found for "Reasto Rianco" when I used Google.com to locate information about the band.

I'm breaking my standard for youtube.com videos and only including the link to the first tune I listened to by this band. It was called Death Rattle and I was going to embed it on this post. However, after I had embedded the video, I decided I didn't like the preview image. Don't get me wrong - I like the tune as much, if not more, than the Grind tune above. You can (and should) listen to it by clicking here: Beasto Blanco's "Death Rattle".

Editor's Note: Are you trying to put me out of a job?

My Perspective

From http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/ozzy-osbourne-slayer-judas-priest-alice-in-chains-ghost-set-for-australias-download-festival/:

As he approaches 70 later this year, Osbourne said he wanted to spend more time with his grandchildren after five decades on the road. "I love my work, it's amazing ... Jack's three little girls," he said. "They are wonderful, except when they come over to the house, wreck it and leave."

Meanwhile, this is the lineup for Download in Austrailia and, well, 1 - 6, 8, 9, 12 are good... so that's 9 out of 23 - 39% won't get me to buy a plane ticket to go see it.

  1. OZZY OSBOURNE
  2. SLAYER
  3. JUDAS PRIEST
  4. ALICE IN CHAINS
  5. GHOST
  6. RISE AGAINST
  7. THE AMITY AFFLICTION
  8. ANTHRAX
  9. HALESTORM
  10. BEHEMOTH
  11. ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES
  12. I PREVAIL
  13. CONVERGE
  14. FRENZAL RHOMB
  15. LUCA BRASI
  16. CODE ORANGE
  17. ANDY BLACK
  18. THE FEVER 333
  19. WAR ON WOMEN
  20. HIGH TENSION
  21. OUTRIGHT
  22. RUINS
  23. ALIEN WEAPONRY

Love the HiHat on this Track

From the new Halestorm release comes this tune. I learned about its existence because of this review: https://www.loudersound.com/reviews/halestorm-vicious-album-reviewed. I adore the hi-hat work on this tune, though I'm not jazzed by the lyrics.

Banging the Drums Because I'm Not Really Banging My Drums

I miss playing in a band.

I long to have my acoustic set up like Aaron Spears. I'm not a fan of the Usher tune itself, but I am a fan of Spears' drumming. By having a second hi-hat by the floor tom, he can play open style and doesn't have to play crossed stick.

Either watch the entire video below (highly recommended!) or jump to here

Certainly, he's not the only drummer to play like that.

The following would be challenging and fun to figure out.

  • Can you call yourself a guitarist if you don't know how to play chords? Can I call myself a drummer if I cannot play the 40 Drum Rudiments?

  • Anika Nilles is a phenomenal drummer. This groove is tasty!

  • The Gloria tune we play at Mass is in 6/8. Maybe I can work this lick in...

There's a story on Blabbermouth.net about Adler's involvement with the G-n-R reunion.

Red Sun Rising is slowly creeping up to Count the Stars, Bayside, and Metallica status.

Halestorm released an EP of cover songs. When I hear these covers, I'm smiling.

  • This is an underrated great ROCK song.

  • This is my personal all-time favorite Soundgarden tune.

  • I was never a huge fan of this tune until I heard Metallica play it in Moline, IL.

  • Personally, I wouldn't want to play this tune in a band. Sure, getting the parts down would make it a tune I would be challenged to learn. The reason I wouldn't want to play it is the same reason Metallica doesn't have affection for the complex tunes on And Justice for All, which is that they have to think about what they are playing instead of grooving to what they are playing.

  • Given the above, I wanted to hear what they could do live - if they could pull it off. Judge for yourself!

Someday . . .

Every year, they hold Rock Fest in Cadott, WI, in mid-July.

Every year, awesome bands, including some of my favorite bands, play at this festival.

Every year, I sigh and wish I was there.

Someday, I will be there.

It would be awesome if it was this year, since from Thursday to Sunday, a lot of my favorite bands play:
  • Thursday
    • Seether
    • Halestorm
    • All That Remains
  • Friday
    • The Offspring
    • Theory of a Deadman
    • In This Moment
  • Saturday
    • KISS
    • Megadeth
    • Stone Sour
    • Hellyeah
    • Warrant
  •  Sunday
    • Mötley Crüe!!!!!!
    • Whitesnake <== Tommy Aldridge (a drum hero of mine) is playing with them on this tour!!!
    • Skillet!!!!!
The fact that Mötley Crüe, the 'bad boys of rock,' headline a show where Skillet, a Christian rock band, plays just a few hours earlier, makes this year awesome.
