RIP Lord of Darkness

Ozzy Osbourne passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Alex and I had to decide if we wanted to see Slayer or Ozzy at Chicago Open Air 2017 - wow! That was 8 years ago! We chose Ozzy.
I'll continue to say that his autobiography is one of the best books. It tore away the hype that followed him and told me about the existence of John Michael Osbourne. I wrote a book review of it.
In the clips that have been floating around from The Osbournes, I'd forgotten the one where Sharon wanted to have bubbles shoot up from the stage... He liked to use inappropriate words that start with F...

Editor's Note: One of the joys of scheduling a post for publication is that it can be forgotten and what gets posted should have been edited. Sadly, no, the Ozzy Osbourne concert in Des Moines, IA, that was scheduled for tonight, has been postponed. Or canceled. Not entirely sure.
On April 4, 2019, which feels like ages ago, mainly because it was 453 days (1 year, 2 months, 3 weeks, 5 days) ago, I read on Loudwire.com the sad news that Ozzy Osbourne Suffers Serious Injury, All 2019 Tour Dates Postponed.

I remember 4/4/2019. When Karen and I were eating brat patties with mashed potatoes while watching "The Big Bang Theory," I told Karen that the Ozzy Osbourne concert had been postponed to June 30, 2020.

She asked, "What if we're busy that night?"

I said, "Does it involve boobs?"

She said, "No."

I quipped, "I'm going to see Ozzy Osbourne."

Not more than 1 hour later, my friend Jason Lester called me. He was the friend who originally asked me if I wanted to go with him to see Ozzy in concert.

He was quick and direct: are you still in for Ozzy for the postponed date, he asked.

You know my answer.

Due out Friday, November 29 on Sony Legacy, fans can pre-order the box set and watch a clip about the set with special guest star Zakk Wylde. The box set is titled SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE and includes:

VINYL: 173 songs total on 16 albums, each of which is 150-gram, hand-pressed multi-colored splatter vinyl, making each pressing unique. Many of the albums are previously unavailable or are currently out of print on vinyl. The collection also includes Flippin’ The B Side, a new collection of non-album tracks, which has never been pressed to vinyl. In addition, Black Rain, Down to Earth and Scream have never been pressed in the U.S., while No More Tears was remastered from the original flat analog album masters and is offered as a two-LP set which will allow the album’s songs to be uncompressed for the very first time ever on vinyl.

The 2020 Ozzy Osbourne tour in the United States has the dates in the table below. The way I see it, Metallica would have a month break between the end of the South American dates (and really, it's "only" 6 concerts x 2.5 hours each so "only" 15 hours onstage. Maybe it will happen, maybe it will not. I do not have an issue / problem with seeing Megadeth as, frankly, even if Dave Mustaine does recover fully from his current fight with cancer, I honestly do not envision another 10 years of touring in his future - I feel the same way about Metallica. But then, again, I plan to work until I am 66 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, 3 days (24221 days) old, God-willing!

• James is 56 years old today (turns 57 on 8/3/2020)
• Robert is 54 years old today (turns 55 on 10/23/2019)
• Kirk is is 56 years old today (turns 57 on 11/18/2019)

Just as a quick reminder, I have a ticket for the date below in red so, if Metallica were to replace Megadeth, I would be already set up to see Metallica open for Ozzy Osbourne. I wonder if they would change the venue from the Wells Fargo Arena (indoors) to the Newton Speedway Track, if that were to happen! Oooo!! Look what I just found!!

Metallica Tour Dates

To briefly follow-up my "Megadeth and Ozzy and my hope that Dave Mustaine recovers from throat cancer and can tour, but if he cannot, my pick to replace Megadeth on that tour would be Metallica" post, I went and looked at Metallica's tour dates. This is what I found:

1. 11 of the 16 tour dates are Sold Out
2. NONE scheduled for 2020!!

Again, I want to be CRYSTAL CLEAR about my thoughts on this situation.

More than ANYTHING:

• I want Dave Mustaine's cancer treatments to be successful.
• I want Megadeth to open for Ozzy Osbourne on Sunday, June 28, 2020. 

However, if Megadeth can't play the concert in Des Moines and a replacement for Megadeth MUST be chosen, my choice would be for Metallica to replace Megadeth.
