Judged for What Happened 11 Years Ago? Really? That's the Litmus Test?!?
My reaction to reading this article - Democratic Candidate for Congress Used to Be ‘Social Justice’ Rapper Antonio Delgado railed against capitalism, rapped about porn, masturbating BY: Elizabeth Harrington July 17, 2018 5:00 am - is I have no opinion whether one album, on which Antonio Delgado rapped about various topics, makes Delgado a candidate to best represent his constituents. I am exhausted by the manipulative ways Democrats / Liberals will bring up the ancient past of Republicans / Conservatives as a means to show 'hey, all Rs / Cs are evil' that I see the hamster wheel - 'you brought up the past so I will bring up your past' that it's enough. Last week, I read about how VP Mike Pence's family business cost taxpayers a lot of money to clean up soil when the business went bankrupt years ago - I think 2004 - which is further back in time than Delgado's single rap album.
I will give Delgado some slack.
Let the one without sin cast the first stone.
Like, seriously, who is perfect?
God.
Is Antonio Delgado God? No.
Is Mike Pence God? No.
Then, enough.
The Delgado rap album came out in 2007 and on it, Delgado confronted social issues. Okay. Good. Credit to him for doing so. Name a rapper who doesn't confront social issues. My point exactly. Rap is a genre of music (cough! cough!) known for confronting controversial issues. I won't pretend to understand Delgado though. In fact, I probably will not listen to Delgado. Ever. Not even because of the article cited above because it's not my flavor of music and I don't want to learn enough about rap to make an educated opinion. I think that's aligned with how a music fan's opinion should be weighed.
Side note: I've been thinking about this topic recently since I learned that Deep Purple is touring with Judas Priest and I would love to travel to Council Bluffs on a Friday in September to see Judas Priest. I'm barely familiar with Deep Purple's music. I know of Ian Paice as a drummer and I can hum "Smoke on the Water" but that's about it. Who am I to judge Deep Purple, as a band, because I can hum one tune? Is that enough of an education about their collective work to say, "They rock!" or "They suck!"? I answer, "No." However, if I were to listen to more of their albums and internalize their music to the degree that I've internalized the music of Bayside, Count the Stars, and Metallica, then, maybe, I can offer an intelligent opinion. Otherwise, where is my credibility? I recognize there is an argument that gets made that 'you cannot know what it's like to be [fill-in-the-blank] unless you are [fill-in-the-blank]" which is why the Black Lives Matter movement doesn't allow White people to be involved in their movement as they say 'you are White and you can't know what it's like to be Black' - I think it was Ben Shapiro bashed that logic in one of his videos. But back to Deep Purple - let the education begin!
But, to continue with the subject - rap music - I don't want to listen to a bunch of rap musicians (cough! cough!) to figure out where Delgado fits in. I will rely on someone with more knowledge of the genre to make a much better and a much more informed declaration about where Delgado fits in the genre. Was Delgado a good rapper? I really don't know. I can't judge his contribution to the genre based upon only releasing one album - that's neither negative or positive as there is likely an unlimited number of metal bands with only have one album.
A final thought. Delgado's album was released in 11 years ago. In 2007, I worked at Quintrex. I went to Memphis in May. I drank a lot of booze on a regular basis. I had my priorities screwed up but now, 11 years later, I hope I am a different person in the sense that I don't have my priorities screwed up. I'm not declaring Delgado made a "mistake" when he recorded that rap album; all I'm saying is that 11 years ago, I was not who I am today so I think it's certainly possible that Delgado is not who he was 11 years ago.
Editor's Note: How many bands have released a single album? How would that be investigated?!? Good topic for a future post! Good job!

I Was Wrong
I've been seeing information about Alice Cooper's new album and upcoming tour with Deep Purple*. I have zero desire to attend any concert where those two are playing. While I respect both artists, they are both in the same group as Aerosomith, Thin Lizzy*, Pink Floyd* (to me) where I know their radio singles but I have never gone 'deeper' into their material. I'm not saying I shouldn't or that by not doing so I am better for it - it's just that I haven't felt compelled to do so. Maybe someday I will dive into their materials and kick myself but that ass kicking is not scheduled at this point.
But what is the point of this post - to dismiss classic bands? No. I saw these dates:

with the two dates at Hollywood Casino Amphitheater, one in Chicago; the other in St. Louis. My first thought was that it was wrong - that the venue on one of those two dates was created because of lazy copy and paste. However, that's when Google.com came to my rescue. I entered "Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre" and guess what I saw? There is one in Chicago and there is one in St. Louis, as shown below:
