The Groove

I have always liked this song and, I suppose, the majority of the tunes that Rage Against the Machine released. I think the way the guitar riff is locked in with the bass and drums is not necessarily unique to RATM. I suppose if I over analyzed their catalog I would find other tunes with the same type of groove, but I'm not going to do that. I'll just say the groove in this tune is, in very general terms, a trait of their overall vibe.

And it makes me bob my head...

Anyone But You

During the current Bray Wyatt / Roman Reigns feud in the WWE, Bray Wyatt uttered the phrase "Anyone but you." It has served as a theme for the feud and to at least partially explain why Wyatt has been so anti-Roman Reigns and so dedicated to "destroying" his dominance in the WWE.

That same phrase could apply to most people when they think about our currently elected officials. I've heard more than one person say, "Anyone but [the current official] is who I would vote for."

Even Donald Trump is the question being asked in 2015. This article, from 1999, points out that there was a "Trump for President" sign in a Rage Against the Machine video.

Please! Don't take away my Diverse Musical Landscape

On our way into Mass last night, I was driving and had the radio on. Tuned to Rock 108, a Rage Against the Machine tune came on. The other 2 music critics in the van – Karen / Alex – couldn’t stand the song. Alex complained, “They’re trying to mix rock and rap and they don’t mix.” Karen didn't mince words either as she described the vocalist as sounding like he had "shit in his mouth."

I chuckled at how close-minded they sounded. I know it’s popular to dismiss bands like Korn, RATM, and other rap-metal groups, but what I’ve been thinking about lately is that if those bands didn’t exist, everyone would sound the same. It takes the joining of multiple genres to make the overall musical landscape more diverse.

Who Knew? I Mean Seriously?!?

Who the hell is Zac Brown and when did he grow a pair and start covering Metallica?!?


And Rage Against the Machine?!?
