I Used to Love JB

Amazon pegged me!

I remember "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" and its main character - Peter - vividly!

I remember reading other Judy Blume books when I was in elementary school.

I remember there were other Judy Blume books in the Pierce Elementary library on Marilyn Drive (off of 42nd Street in Cedar Rapids, IA). I used to go into the Pierce Elementary library every morning and find a joke to tell Mrs. Hawkins, the woman who sat at the check-out desk. Later, when I worked at the Spring House restaurant, I worked with Mrs. Hawkins' son, Kris.

I digress. These are the Judy Blume books I remember:
  1. Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great
  2. SuperFudge (which was a sequel to "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing")
  3. Are You There God? It's Me Margaret

I don't recall reading "Are You There God? It's Me Margaret", but I likely did. I remember it had to do with Margaret's character achieving puberty. It is a classic book, but don't take my word for it: the hilarious Deadpool even referenced it in a not-so-subtle Easter egg. Yes, I did catch the reference when I first watched "Deadpool", but I wouldn't have felt bad if I had not - there were so many Easter eggs in that movie!

Anyways, no, I'm not going to purchase "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" even though Amazon pegged me with the recommendation.

Worst. Idea. EVER!!!

I think I might have seen one or two of these movies - Pirates of the Caribbean - but it wasn't a franchise I could fall in love with, which I have with the Indiana Jones franchise, the Star Wars franchise, the Die Hard franchise, and, oh, the Lethal Weapon franchise - that's a nice even number of franchises to think about on a Wednesday morning at 5:58 AM...

H o C Ends at 6 Seasons

I was late to the "House of Cards" party. Karen and I were paging through Netflix on Megan's Roku when I saw it. I knew I had heard of it as being a 'political drama' but had no other knowledge about it. The first episode was good enough that Karen and I watched a second, then a third. I don't remember how many we watched in one sitting, but it was more than two. We've been fairly busy lately and haven't sat down to watch it until Saturday, 10/28, when I flipped over to the Roku and we ended up watching the end of Season 1, Episode 11. you can read about Season 1 here: House of Cards (season 1)

I'm not sure I will ever watch the rest of the series. nd have many more episodes to go. Per this article that was published yesterday, “House of Cards” [was] Officially Cancelled. From the article, here's the juicy tidbit:

In the wake of star actor Kevin Spacey’s homosexual pedophilia scandal, it was announced that the show will end after its sixth season.

Honestly, I cannot say I'm a huge Kevin Spacey fan, though his work on "House of Cards" is quite good. Karen didn't like the way "Francis" looked at the camera to say something directly to the audience anymore in "House of Cards" than she did when Deadpool did so the first time in the back of the taxi in, duh, the "Deadpool" movie. Yet, despite that irritation, we both sat and would watch the show. I will say I'm not super-duper invested in the characters on the show so maybe it's one I don't finish.

Chaos, Not Order

I'm a sensible kind of guy. I like order more than chaos, especially when it comes to the future. I realize that is often not possible, but I also realize when simple order could have been applied. After the video below, there's a list of 24 movies that are tentatively being released in 2018. They are not presented in alphabetical order and they're not presented in release date order. Is it cliche to think one of those orders would be appropriate?

My use case for a video about future movie dates is to open up my hard-copy calendar and make a note on the release date. Especially for the summer movies, when we are likely to be in Elkader, it's information I'd like to know. The movie theater in Elkader is a cheap way to see a movie as a 3D movie is $6 and a non-3D movie is $5. I cannot count how many movies I've seen in Elkader over the years.

I digress. Here's the video about summer 2018 movies.

DC & Marvel Co-Existing

I so wish that there would be a movie made where the DC & Marvel heroes in this picture came together to fight not each other but some "ENORMOUS" villain or, perhaps, from DC - Darkseid, Lex Luthor, The Joker - and from Marvel - Thanos, Doctor Octupus, and Red Skull - get thrown into the same room and realize that they are totally able to join together to wipe out their enemies forever. Maybe it would be a written contract from DC & Marvel that there would be no movies from either studio for, oh, 5 years after the release of this gargantuan movie. Something really awesome, something to be released when the Marvel Movie Universe Phase 20 is finished - and yes, they are in Phase 3 now so this would have to be probably when I am older and grayer than I am now. There are some loose ends that would need to be tied up as I realize that there are no women heroes representing the better 1/2 of all of these heroes. If it were up to me, I'd replace Deadpool with Scarlett Witch and The Hulk with Wonder Woman. There would still be a higher number of Marvel heroes (6) compared to DC (3) so I'm sure there would need to be some negotiations to be hammered through with a concerted effort to make this movie happen. The heroes depicted in the picture below from left to right are:
  1. Spider-Man
  2. Captain America
  3. Iron Man
  4. Batman
  5. Wolverine
  6. Deadpool
  7. The Hulk
  8. The Flash
  9. Superman
