I Admit my Bias

We are a fractured nation and I wanted to capture that with a rare (now that I have a page dedicated solely to politics) post about politics as a way to snapshot the divide in our country about gun control, about what we should do about shooters like the guy who had all those guns in his Las Vegas hotel room, and who somehow thought it would be a good idea to shoot at the concertgoers.

For liberals, the Huffington Post comes out swinging with with this article - An Open Letter To Bill O’Reilly About His Dystopian Take On The Las Vegas Shooting - which I find offensive. In refuting Bill O'Reilly's opinion, the author writes

...You say that “government restrictions will not stop psychopaths from harming people.” Agreed, so why then have laws prohibiting murder or rape? Or — and here’s a novel idea — why not let each state decide whether it wants ineffective anti-murder and anti-rape laws to remain on its books?

to which I feel like saying, "And what government restrictions do you suggest we adopt as the law of the land that, had they been on the books, would have stopped the Las Vegas shooter?" Seriously, don't just say we need more laws and that Congress needs to act when the Democrats held the White House for 8 years. Don't say that Democrats couldn't get anything done because that argument can be refuted with a single word: ObamaCare, which had no Republican support. Why didn't you get more gun control on the books and stop the shooter?

I was going to try and apply critical thinking to what Shapiro says but I agree with him (whereas I don't agree with the Huff Post piece).

I've been reading and/or watching Bill O'Reilly for enough years to simply say that this article does not present any different ideas than what has come out of his mouth. I like reading / watching O'Reilly because I think when he talks, he makes sense. I know MSNBC loves to poke sticks and insults at him, but that's just a bunch of jealousy.

Get in the Studio

The Internet is unfunny to me when people post idiotic things.

There's a story on Blabbermouth.net about Lars Ulrich playing drums with his 86 year-old father and, in the comments under the story, there is the usual Lars bashing that I've bemoaned. The very last comment in the graphic below is what irks me:

The person who posted "Get James a drink" seems so selfish. It's as if creating / recording a new Metallica release is more important than James' sobriety. It's not. I don't believe that person would tell that to James Hetfield if they were in the same room together. The comments about Lars' dad being cooler than Lars - would anyone really say that to another person's face?

Bill O'Reilly bemoans the lack of interactions between humans thanks to the computer and mobile devices. He could use the comments on this page to prove his point.

More ISIS Crap

Here's an interesting dilemma that makes me wonder "Who do I believe?"

On one hand, I receive email newsletters from Conservatives that state that ISIS is trying to cross the border into the United States near Mexico / Texas. On the other hand, I receive email newsletters from Liberals that state that ISIS is NOT trying to cross the border into the United States near Mexico / Texas.

So what to believe? Is it possible both are correct - that this group of terrorists are crossing while simultaneously not crossing?

Bill O'Reilly's "Talking Points" memo doesn't concern the sub-issue of ISIS crossing our border, but it does address another alarming idea: the United States is at war. That's the reality. However, since it's an election year and since the presidential candidates for 2016 (Hilary Clinton for the Democrats; Jeb Bush for the Conservatives) are grooming the public for an announcement and because the elections next month will determine if the Republicans will be able to control both the House and Senate and because President Obama doesn't want to leave his successor a war and because of the nightmare (not just political, but in general) called war, there's a lot of uncertainty. Read the Talking Points memo and decide for yourself here.

A bad spring for America

Bill O'Reilly spells out how America has had a bad spring and goes through a long list of how bad things have been lately. He concludes his Talking Points memo with these words:
"So let's review. Putin violates international law, gets away with it. V.A. betrays American vets. The President trades five Taliban war criminals for a suspected U.S. deserter and doesn't tell Congress. Iraq may fall to al Qaeda and the southern border completely out of control. Those are facts. No ideology involved with this analysis. It has indeed been a very harsh spring for America."

As I read that, I wondered, "What else can go wrong?"

Sick

I have been fighting a cold and it sucks. I hate feeling under the weather. I have a tickle in the back of my throat and I constantly blow my nose like a faucet. My stomach is in knots and I just don't feel good. I am tired and disgusted and sick. Period. I am turning off the PC, despite the fact that I should be writing reviews tonight as my wife's birthday is tomorrow and I will not be on the PC @ night. I would like to wake up tomorrow to a brighter day and a better day so I'm not even going to turn on the TV to watch a rerun of Justice League Unlimited - a show for which I have a weakness. I'm not going to even look for a MASH rerun or an episode of Home Improvement. Even Bill O'Reilly's The O'Reilly Factor is not getting my attention tonight.

I am going to bed.
