Excellent Tama Drums for Sale in Utica

Ludwig Vistalites for Sale in Allentown

This is a one of a kind, ORIGINAL Ludwig Vintage clear vistalite drum set with (2) rare 24" bass drums. All accessories including hi-hat, 1 crash and 2 ride cymbals, all hardware and a complete set of hard cases. This original vistalite drum set was purchased by me in the mid 1970's and has always been taken care of. The clear vista-lite drums have no cracks or yellowing which if you are aware is quite rare.
This is truly a rare find of an original vistalite drum set and the only reason I am selling them is that my wife and I are downsizing with an ultimate move to a smaller quieter location. [Emphasis mine]

Included items:

2 rare 24" clear vista-lite bass drums
1 14" clear vista-lite snare drum
1 12" clear vista-lite tom tom
1 13" clear vista-lite tom tom
1 16" clear vista-lite floor tom tom
1 hi-hat w/stand and 2 14" cymbals
1 18" ride cymbal w/stand
1 16" ride cymbal w/stand
1 16" crash cymbal w/stand
1 tri-pod seat
1 cowbell/Tambourine
1 music stand
1 microphone stand
6 Hard Cases
All Hardware

New Ludwig clear and silver dot heads were added to all 6 drums recently

History:

Vistalite drums were a line of acrylic drums produced by the Ludwig Drum company, introduced in 1972. The name Vistalite refers to the translucent plastic that the shells were made out of. Vistalite and acrylic offered a synthetic alternative to wood shells and were popularized by rock drummer John Bonham of Led Zeppelin.

The original Vistalites are a collectors item.

Still Drool when I see Drums Like This

Lou and Jean are coming to our house today and will stay until Tuesday. Karen asked me about the basement and I fibbed when I told her "it's clean."

It's not.

After the Bad Rumor gig on 1-19-2023, I carried all of my drums to the basement and, because I had it in my head that I wanted to reorganize the furnace room prior to putting those drums into the furnace room, I left the drums in the "living room" area of the basement.

Meaning, no, it's not clean.

Earlier this week, I did reorganize the furnace room. I took the two shelves that were parallel with the door and combined them into a single taller shelf. However, because those two smaller shelves allowed two stacks of "stuff" to reach the room's ceiling, I basically decreased my storage space by doing so by half. That led to creating a stack of Rubbermaids on the floor. The net result is that where I had thought I would put the drums from the Bad Rumor gig is now occupied with a stack of Rubbermaids, meaning I need a Plan B.

Plan B is likely to be putting those drums in the den, which has enough room for the drums. In fact, I have enough room in the den to actually lay out the carpet I use under my drums and to actually set them up.

I did that by moving the white file cabinet and brown bookcase that used to be on the wall to the right as you walked into the den to the corner, freeing up a nice space in the room.

However, at this moment, I haven't moved the drums into that space, meaning, no, the basement is not clean.

Guess what I plan to do when Karen goes to get a haircut today, I write as I am grinning.

All of the words about my existing drums in my existing basement leads me to the following drums for sale in Indy. I really want to have more drums, especially a Ludwig Vistalite set like the one in the ad. Prior to Alex and Hannah's wedding, I drooled over a similar set that was for sale in Iowa City, so much closer than Indy, but because of the wedding and the price being offered (I think it was ~$1200), I didn't pull the trigger. Now, there's a similar set with similar sizes for sale in Indy that would cost $600 more, plus there would be the $ involved in either driving to Indy or paying to have the drums shipped to my house, if that would even be an option.

If I were to drive to Indy to pick up that Ludwig set, I could stop in Chicago and pick up this snare drum as well as I would be driving through Chicago to get to Indy. I mean, that would make sense.

Quick Update from 24 Days Ago

Back on July 26, 2022, I posted about My Ideal Drums and I wanted to provide an update. Those drums are for sale, I have a price quote from the seller that is different than the advertised price, and I have still not purchased those drums.

I have no current prospects for auditioning to play drums in my Ideal Band. If I'm being honest, I'm quite discouraged about the situation.

Quick Update from 68 Days Ago

Back on May 19, 2022, I posted about My Ideal Drums and I wanted to provide an update. Those drums are for sale, I have a price quoted from the seller that is different than the advertised price, and I have still not purchased those drums.

Also, I thought I was going to audition to play drums in a local band but I have found out I am not going to be auditioning for that local band. I have no other current prospects for auditioning to play drums in my Ideal Band. If I'm being honest, I'm quite discouraged about the situation.

My Ideal Drums

Warning: This is a longer than normal post

This is my destiny drums.

I have a Google alert set up so that when "Ludwig Vistalite clear" is a match on "craigslist.org", I get an email. For years, I have patiently waited for my Ideal Drums to be located through this Google alert and while there have been matches in the past, they have all, for one reason or another, not been matches I have drooled over as much as the match that arrived in my Inbox on May 18, 2022 at 10:43 PM (last night after I had gone to bed).

1970’s Ludwig Vistalite 5-Piece Drumset - $1,800 (Iowa City)

Please send me a message at (563) Five Seven Zero - 0641 with any questions or offers.

I will ship these drums, but I would prefer to meet in person - I would be willing to drive ~100 miles to meet in order to facilitate this sale.

But it's not going to be easy to justify spending $1,800 (or maybe a little under that) when I don't have any gigs lined up for my Ideal Band which would fund such a purchase.

I sent this message to the seller:

This is my Ideal drumset. I have a 24" bass, 13" mounted tom, and 2 x 16" floor toms. This will date me - my parents bought my set when I was in 8th grade, back in 1984 and it's been the only drumset I have ever owned!

I am monitoring the ad for sure. Son gets married next month and we're getting the bar bill so I need it to be less than $1000 before I can present it to my wife... right now, my set is stacked up under my basement steps because I have been playing my son's Yamaha DTX500 electronic set for the past few years.

Hope you sell it, even if it's not to me...

Ds 4 Sale ... and None are Going into 830 Studios

Here's a reality check. I am not playing drums in my Ideal Band. The latest prospect I had for an Ideal Band is a group that rehearses on Saturdays. With Alex & Hannah's wedding coming up in 80 days (2 months, 2 weeks, 5 days)*, I am not going to take on playing drums in a band. I don't want to allow myself the opportunity to lose focus. Yet, I continue to torture myself when I look at Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist > Musical Instruments for Sale. It never fails to reveal drums for sale that I will never buy. I need to be actively playing in an Ideal Band, with paying gigs, before I can justify to myself any new-to-me electronic set. That's why when I see electronic sets (the $50 bass drums ad is collateral damage because of how the search results in Facebook Marketplace where sorted), ranging from
  1. $499 for the Yamaha
  2. $700 for the Roland
  3. $750 for the Alesis
  4. $1400 for another Roland
  5. $2500 for another Roland
I smirk as I know I am not buying any of them.

What's interesting is that the $2500 price is only $.01 more than what I would pay at Guitar Center.

* I say this because I want to be focused on Alex's wedding and fear that any Ideal Band that comes to light in the next 80 days would only serve as a distraction. I realize that is one of my (many) character flaws in that I like shiny objects.

Contrasting the DWs

In my previous post. $6500, (I am including the cost of purchasing 2 bass drum pedals and a snare stand that are not included), was the price for a very nice clear DW drum set. Now, I present an alternative for $2000. This double bass drums comes with a bass drum pedal for each, plus cymbals and a decent rack.

Obviously, beyond the $4500 price difference, the clear DW drum set for $6000 goes with my Ludwig Vistalite set where as this DW drum set for $2000 does not match.

Here is the link to my previous post: https://prhmusic.blogspot.com/2022/02/beautiful-dws.html

It's fun to think about things I will never have to make a decision about because I will never own either of these two drum sets. I don't think I will ever sell my Ludwig Vistalite set - one time I offered to sell it to one of Alex's co-workers at UNI for $10,000... which basically means I didn't want to sell it.

Beautiful DWs

Look at this gorgeous this Drum Workshop (DW) Clear Acrylic drum set!

I would absolutely love to have this in my basement! I already can imagine an integration with my 5 piece Ludwig Vistalite set - having 3 24" bass drums - 5 floor toms (3 in this set, plus 2 that I already have), plus the Rata Toms and a Gong Bass Drum. Here are more details:

DW Collector’s Series Clear Acrylic 11pc Kit
* 24x16 Bass Drum (02)
* 10x9 Tom
* 13x10 Tom
* 14x14 Floor Tom w/legs
* 16x16 Floor Tom w/legs
* 18x16 Floor Tom w/legs
* 20x16 Gong Bass Drum
* 14x6.5 Snare
* 6x17 Rata Tom
* 6x18 Rata Tom
Includes the following:
* DW 3000 Series Double Tom Stand (02)
* DW 3000 Series Double Tom Stand 0(2)
* Drum Seeker nylon bags with fleece interior
Not included:
* Snare stand
* Bass drum pedals
Condition:
* Drums and heads are new, never played. Display only wear and tear.
* Crack in one bass drum. Does not affect sound or shape.
Price:
* $6,000.00 / cash only

Wait, what? I spend $6000 and I have to then get a snare stand and two bass drum pedals? A cheap snare stand is under $100. If I were to purchase a new bass drum pedal, there's no question which pedal I would purchase: a Ludwig Speed King. While I have two in my basement right now, I would buy two new bass drum pedals for my new drum set. How much? Between $338 and $398 so, with tax and possibly shipping, I'll overestimate and say $500.

I had better get used to admiring the picture of this drum set because I will never own it.

A Lot of Work for only 12 Hours

This looks like a lot of work, but it also looks really awesome.

Here's the text in the ad:

All components and accessories for this custom kit were purchased new within the last six months. Overall cost to me was about $2,500. I’m selling this kit intact, and not entertaining any offers for purchase of individual items. Actual play time on this drum kit is less than 12 hours total. This custom kit is configured with mobility (versus easy disassembly) in mind. It features a small footprint & can be lifted and carried or slid on the custom-made sled and stored in a 2' x 4' space. Accordingly, I will not be disassembling the kit for transport, so a vehicle (preferably a pickup truck) would be required. Face-to-face transaction only – cash required. No trades. Please refer to the Alesis website for info on the basic Nitro Mesh kit. Upgrades and additions to this basic kit are as follows:

1.       Addition of 2nd Nitro module for the purpose of autonomous control of 5 trigger pads dedicated to mapping and playing percussion add-ons (hand clap, claves, cowbell, tambourine, etc). Up to 2 more dual-zone drum pads, 3 cymbals and a 2nd hi hat can be added per the remaining input cables on the 2nd Nitro module’s wiring harness or “snake”.

2.       4-channel mixer which allows audio output from both Nitro modules, along with two more sources, to be mixed at variable volumes for combined output to user headphones (not included) or other output device such as an amp or external speakers/drum monitor.

3.       Original 8” dual-zone snare pad upgraded to 10” dual-zone snare.

4.       Original Nitro kick pedal and kick trigger pad upgraded to two Roland KT-10 Low-Noise Kick Trigger Pedals ($289 each) which are quieter and more compact than tradition kick-tower setups but retain the feel of a “real” kick pedal.

5.       Addition of a custom-made, rubber-coated, ride cymbal “bell” trigger pad which imitates the function of the dual-zone ride cymbals included in Alesis’ higher end kits.

6.       Added stability due to addition of 3 extra frame crossbars.

7.       Custom-made dual-support snare pad support bar for improved stability when playing.

8.       Bluetooth remote mouse/keyboard for controlling your laptop or PC from your drum throne when using drum set connected via USB cable for expanded MIDI functionality.

9.       Addition of two 8” dual-zone drum pads with rim cushions (for less noise and better stick rebound) and an 8” Pintech “nimrod” trigger, which are again controlled by the 2nd Nitro module and currently mapped for percussion voices found within the Nitro’s library.

10.   Custom-made 500D nylon, zippered dust cover.

11.   An 8" Remo mesh practice pad with 1/4" mounting nut on back.

12.    Five pairs of 5A drum sticks (various wood types) with anti-slip grips or coatings and a 10-pair, zippered drum stick storage case.

All items depicted on the accompanying photos are included, as well as a notebook with printed Nitro Mesh kit user manuals and a transferal of my license for both Addictive Drums 2 and EZ Drummer 2 software for use on a compatible PC or laptop allowing for USB MIDI interface with the Nitro Mesh module.

Note: According to the XLN Audio and Toontrack websites, I can transfer my licenses by providing your email address and having you establish an account (free) with them online. Then I delete the software from my PC and they assign the licenses to your new account. Understand that this license transferal is a “free bonus”, and I will not reduce my selling price for the kit should XLN Audio or Toontrack fail to authorize the license transferal for any reason.

I am selling because I found drumming to be more time-consuming and complicated than I had envisioned. Also, I need funding for an expansion of my small business pursuits.

I don't know what 1/2 of these words mean in the context of describing the technology involved so I would have to trust the author. Since I'm not buying that Yamaha DTX950 - his son decided he wanted to keep that set (and I think encouraging "the next generation" of drummers is what right call for me) - I still have my eyes open. This set is in Springfield - don't remember if it's IL or MO - and more than I could spend ($1650).

In My Future

Someday, I will probably sell my Ludwig Vistalite set. I will post a picture of my drums on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace or eBay and then just wait for someone to buy them. This ad for a set of Rogers drums and Zildjian cymbals has been posted on the Craigslist > Madison > for sale > Musical Instruments page for 24 days.
