Being Rich Would Be Awesome
I strongly believe that everyone in the world wants to be rich. I do. I want more money to do three things that I cannot do without a shitload more money. These are off-the-top-of-my-head and what I would call "selfish" things I want to do because I am purposely excluding Karen and the kids in my list because, well, I am being selfish for the purpose of this post. Here's what I would do with a shit-ton of money.
- Build an addition to our house in the backyard from the edge of our existing patio all the way down to the end of our house, including behind the garage where I would love to have a soundproof and climate controlled room for playing drums both by myself and with any musician friends that stop by. Having such a room would make loading equipment in and out of the house easier, eliminating the requirement to carry guitars and amps and microphones up and down our basement steps. Of course, if I'm adding on a room, I would need a brand-new set of drums to go in it. I have never purchased a complete set of drums for myself as the Yamaha electronic set belongs to Alex. The only drums I own are the Ludwig Vistalite set that my parents bought for me in 1984. Back to my drum room, there are some awesome advantages of building such a room, including I could easily get up at 5 AM and go play my "real" drums with no regards to it being 5 AM. I would free up space in the den, where the Yamaha electronic drums are located as well as underneath the steps, where my Ludwig Vistalite drums are stacked and covered with a blanket to avoid getting dusty.
- Take a trip to England (after COVID-19 of course) and see the places I just want to see to say that I've seen them. I don't have any desire to do anything more than to see these places and then turn around and leave for home - I imagine I would be content to spend 15 minutes at each location before I would be able to say, "Okay, that's awesome, and we should go to the next place." I know for a fact that no one else in my family would be jumping up and down with excitement if I actually tried to follow-through on this thing. I want to see where Black Sabbath played their early gigs. I want to see where The Beatles rehearsed when Pete West was in the band. I want to see where Led Zeppelin drank booze. I want to see Wembley Stadium.
- I want to go skydiving and I want to pay for my friends to go with me.

Invite Retracted
Ha! I didn't want to go to the U.K. for a meeting in the first place!
I am a liar. I would love to go to the U.K. for pretty much any reason you can think of. I want to see where Black Sabbath hung out. I want to see where The Beatles hung out. I want to see where Led Zeppelin hung out. I am not naive to think that just because I'm in the city where they used to hang out, I would see Black Sabbath (Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, Geezer Butler and Ozzy Osbourne) or members of the Beatles (only Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney are still alive) or members of Led Zeppelin (only Robert Plant and John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page are still alive) when I went to those cities. Does any of those legends I just mentioned actually still live in those cities? I don't think it's relevant to my point.
My point in writing about all of this is to recap a recent conversation I was in. I talked to someone I know about how I would like to go to the U.K. someday and see those places. I also lamented that Karen would have zero interest in such a trip. I believe that because I relate this fictional trip to the U.K. with when Karen and I were in Long Beach, CA, for WinWriters 2007. While I was excited and giddy when our bus tour took us to the Sunset Strip bars, like The Rainbow and The Whiskey A-Go-Go, I was so excited! To me, that was a highlight of the entire trip - it was truly awesome. While I didn't see any of the legends of the bands that used to frequent those establishments, just being where Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, and Kirk Hammett asked Jason Newsted to join Metallica felt amazing.
That's why I feel odd to acknowledge that I want to go to those places in the U.K. because, as I said, I know I won't meet any of those musicians; frankly, I'm not sure what I could say to any of them without gushing like an idiot if I did actually see any of them. I'm certain I would be like any other of their millions of fans if, for example, I asked for an autograph. Wow. Just the thought of asking Bill Ward or Ringo Starr for an autograph sends shivers down my spine. I would ask for an autograph from any of the others, especially Ozzy Osbourne, but Bill & Ringo would be my targets.
Before I move on, can you imagine if those musicians got in the same room together and just jammed? That would be something to hear! Of all those musicians, only the original members of Black Sabbath (Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, Geezer Butler and Ozzy Osbourne) are still alive . . . and they don't play music together anymore. How sad!
Anyways, I'm okay that the invitation was retracted 53 minutes after I received it - I so do not like making anyone feel disappointment.g

New Fun Thing to Do
There's something really cool about seeing people who are unfamiliar with the music I love react to the music I love as they hear it for the first time. To paraphrase one of the comments from the "HIP HOP HEAD FIRST REACTION TO LED ZEPPELIN - DAZED AND CONFUSED" video below, watching somebody fall in love with The Music That I Love for the first time brings me so much nostalgic joy. To go back and hear those songs for the first time... bliss.

Rollins
I don't believe I realized what a masterful speaker and storyteller Henry Rollins is. I have to believe that because I vaguely remember he did a concert in Des Moines within the last few years and when I read that he was going to be doing a concert, I didn't have any interest in investigating what it would be like.
I'm a dumb ASS for not doing so.
This video came up as a suggestion so I listened to it. I love the way he talks.
Warning! Henry Rollins is an adult and uses adult words!
After I listened to his stories about Van Halen and Diamond Dave, I wanted to hear more. The video below was set up to play next so I started listening to it.
I adore the first line - When I was 15 and heard the song "Iron Man," my life changed. It is precisely the type of opening sentence I want to write every time I write, whether for pleasure or in a Knowledge Article or in my Disaster Recovery documentation or within any technical writing content that crosses my desk today, tomorrow, and each workday thereafter for the next 16 years, 10 months, 1 week, 4 days (6160 days). The writing is captivating and entertaining and informative. Thus, for the next 9:26, listened to Henry Rollins.
Then I looked around for a youtube playlist of the album called Provoked and didn't find one. I did find the following videos. They will be living in my ears for the foreseeable future!

Revolving Doors!
When you look at these 5 pages, you might be put off by how many times the band's lineup has changed. I don't really think that's appropriate. There are bands that are not as popular or as well-known as these 5 bands who change their lineup at least as frequently as these 5. The difference is that sites like blabbermouth.net, Loudwire.com, and other metal music websites are around to write about the changes and, sometimes unfortunately, provide fans with a place to voice their pleasure (or displeasure) with the change.
