In a movie or in a TV show, Jim said to Charlie that Jim doesn't trust anyone who acts as though they have it "all figured out."
At this precise moment, I can't recall what movie or TV show Jim said that to Charlie - and I doubt that the two characters were named Jim and Charlie - I just needed a clever way to name two characters so that I could quote a movie or TV show that I can't recall the name of.
I could post it to Facebook to see if anyone else has seen whatever movie or TV show I'm thinking of... Hmmm.
Anyways, I mention this movie or TV show because when I read the subject of the email I received (and have pasted below), I immediately thought about those two characters because proclaiming to have "the answer to your marriage" is silly. That may sound like a contradiction or maybe an error in the message. But it isn’t. Couples spend years “Trying” often with little or no success. So many couples are worn out from the effort to create a passionate, dynamic and loving marriage – and give up because they don’t get anywhere.
So we say, QUIT TRYING.
Or better yet, STOP TRYING THE SAME OLD THINGS THAT GET YOU NOWHERE.
When John approached us, he had all but given up. He was now in a sexless marriage, with little open communication or affection.
As a married couple, both Angela and John had given their marriage a lot of attention. But over the past 5 years, of an 11-year relationship, they were exhausted and now believed they could never have more.
The pain and hurt they experienced from each failed attempt, left them hopeless.

Editor's Note: One of the joys of scheduling a post for publication is that it can be forgotten and what gets posted should have been edited. Sadly, no, the Ozzy Osbourne concert in Des Moines, IA, that was scheduled for tonight, has been postponed. Or canceled. Not entirely sure.
On April 4, 2019, which feels like ages ago, mainly because it was 453 days (1 year, 2 months, 3 weeks, 5 days) ago, I read on Loudwire.com the sad news that Ozzy Osbourne Suffers Serious Injury, All 2019 Tour Dates Postponed.
I remember 4/4/2019. When Karen and I were eating brat patties with mashed potatoes while watching "The Big Bang Theory," I told Karen that the Ozzy Osbourne concert had been postponed to June 30, 2020.
She asked, "What if we're busy that night?"
I said, "Does it involve boobs?"
She said, "No."
I quipped, "I'm going to see Ozzy Osbourne."
Not more than 1 hour later, my friend Jason Lester called me. He was the friend who originally asked me if I wanted to go with him to see Ozzy in concert.
He was quick and direct: are you still in for Ozzy for the postponed date, he asked.
You know my answer.
Thus, tonight in Des Moines, IA, I am going to see Megadeath open for Ozzy Osbourne at the Wells Fargo Arena. I cannot wait!

You Need to Refocus
This is the text of a message I sent to my nephew who recently started playing drums. After I sent the message, I realized that it is also a message to myself except that instead of references to Motley Crue and Tommy Lee, I would have wrote about Metallica and Lars Ulrich
If you are serious about playing drums, it's not just about playing Crue tunes. You can only get so far with bashing the drums. If you want to truly be able to play the way Tommy Lee plays, you must spend time on your technique and the way you actually hit the drum.
This is not fun and it feels boring. You will get tired of playing patterns that you don't understand in relation to Motley Crue or anything that you like to listen to.
I can tell you this.
If you put your mind to learning how to hit the drums the right way, your potential is the sky.
I just came across this video. It's the kind of technique that I am talking about. It's not exciting but... I hope that you will watch it several times until the concepts are drilled into your mind. Also, you will not see an improvement in your drumming skills tomorrow by watching the video today. It will be several months until you are playing drums and BOOM! what was hard to do is easier to do.
It looks like there's many videos by this guy. I would watch it several times before going on to the next video.
Also, reduce the speed of the video so that it is a slower tempo - I did that when I was first trying to play with him. I think he assumes that the viewer is able to keep up with him!

Also Friday, the UI announced plans to build a $4 million “state-of-the-art” women’s soccer operations facility. The new building, pending Board of Regents approval, would be built on the west-side athletics complex and be ready for the fall 2021 season.
The proposed facility would include locker rooms and offices that overlook the soccer field and is being financed by private donations. The Iowa women’s soccer program tied a school record with 15 wins last season under coach Dave Dilanni.

The Mill is closing after nearly 60 years in Iowa City

spaghetti, vintage pew seating, vine-draped patio, and, of course, its
performance space, Little Village Magazine reports.
I Remember This
The other day, I returned to the "Wrestling with Wregret" channel on Youtube because I hadn't watched one of his videos in a while. The video I watched recapped when Roddy Piper was in WCW. As I watched the video, I realized that while I think I remember a lot of things, I don't actually remember as much as I think I do.
What I mean by that is I remember watching WCW weekly, especially during this era of WCW and I know I paid attention to what I was watching. In my defense, during this epoch of when I watched WCW, I would watch it while I was often trying to also keep pace with the events that were happening in rival organization WWE (then called the WWF) on a different channel. All of that is to say that I realize many details about Piper's tenure that are included within the video were familiar, but I wouldn't have been able to state them without seeing the video.
Some examples of this are that while I remembered that Piper showed up at a PPV to confront Hulk Hogan, I didn't remember the name of the PPV when he did so. While I remembered some of the promos that Piper ranted about, such as remembering that Piper confronted Eric Bischoff on an episode of WCW and then had been beaten down in an ambush by the nWo members, I didn't remember that it was Piper who revealed that Eric Bischoff had been secretly working with the nWo behind the scenes. Up until that point, Bischoff had appeared to be not on the side of the nWo.
I realize those are nuances to the overall storyline regarding Piper and the nWo. It's not like I didn't remember Piper was the main "face" (good guy) going up against the main "heel" (bad guy) Hulk Hogan. I also realize that there were a lot of hours of pro wrestling that I watched - I can't even guestimate how many hours of WCW, TNA, WWE, & ECW TV I have watched, which doesn't even include the hours of pro wrestling I have watched on YouTube. I can't expect myself to keep it all straight as it's so much like a soap opera with characters coming in to storylines and then, eventually, moving out of storylines. I love it, don't get me wrong, but I acknowledge I am not going to retain every episode and every wrestling move I see and every promo a wrestler says in or out of the squared circle. Diagram Above
One thing that bugs me as a technical writer is when I read a manual for a product that I own and see obvious mistakes. Sometimes, the mistake is worth nothing more than a smirk, as is the case with the example in this post.
First, I realize that no one reads the manual. Second, I realize that the example in this post is from a manual for our 2008 Jayco camper and, between then and now, it's likely that this mistake has been corrected.
But, it existed in 2008 and the text says "Although the above diagrams may not accurately reflect," the mistake is that the diagrams are actually BELOW the text. There's no diagrams "above " that paragraph.
So, yes, I realize that it is a mistake that doesn't really matter in the big picture, but because I am who I am, I am going to point out the mistakes when I see them.

We’re headed back into lockdown soon on the writing here. So if you want to keep getting all the inside stuff, special podcasts, etc. you need to click subscribe.
Now, I want to address an audience of one this morning, but will allow the rest of you to listen in on the very one-sided conversation.
Mr. President:
You have been figured out by the Democrats. It has been a strange thing to see these past few years. You have had the ability to steer the conversation however you wanted it to go. By taking to Twitter, you could get the entire media herd to chase in the direction you wanted, keep them discombobulated, and make their reporting incoherent. Often, you led them into mistaken reporting in their rush to be first instead of right and then used their bad reporting to discredit them. It has been something to watch.
But somewhere along the way, in these past few months of COVID-19, etc. the press turned this on you. Now, they are able to direct you where they want you to go and they want you to go nowhere. You are literally throwing punches in so many directions that your messaging is incoherent and you are off-balance.
You’ve also settled on some outdated messaging. “Law & Order President” has been done before. For the younger of the two presidential candidates, your branding right now is the most dated with a message like that.
Here’s the thing — the Mattis piece, the riots, the protests, the polling, etc. they are all distractions. Every single thing right now is a distraction and the press is using those distractions to distract you. You have the pieces of a compelling message, but the distractions are preventing you from being consistent.
I have a suggestion.
The last time a President won the election while losing the popular vote and then riding to a popular election mandate for a second term, George W. Bush had consistent messaging and was laser-focused on that message. In 2000, it was “help is on the way.” If anyone asked him a question, he’d always give a variation of “help is on the way.” It was impressive message discipline. It worked in 2000 and he repackaged it in 2004 for more success coupling it with portraying John Kerry as a flip-flopper.
The thing that is frustrating a lot of Republicans right now is that your message seems to change on a near-daily basis. Nobody can keep up. Some have given up. But there is a way for you to get out your “law and order” message while also being able to use it against Biden.
Dive into the polling and the underlying concern is the same. Over 70% of Americans are worried about the economy. They want the guy who can get the economy rebooted to be the guy who wins. The polling also shows most of them think you have a better shot at it than Biden. But you’re team is too distracted in messaging. So focus on this. Be the President who will “keep people safe and get them back to work.”
When the press asks you what to do in the George Floyd situation, you respond that it was terrible and Joe Biden backed the policies that caused that situation, but you’re working to keep people safe and get them back to work.
When the press asks you about your response to the riots, you tell them local Democrats are failing to keep people safe and put them back to work, but you are going to keep them safe and put them back to work.
When the press asks you about the viral spread, you point out Democrats didn’t want people going to church, but let them into the streets to spread the virus because they know an economic rebound will help you. They don’t want to keep people safe or send them back to work, but you do.
Every single message can go back to that — you will keep people safe and get them back to work.
You need a focused message. This one contrasts perfectly with Joe Biden.
Biden spent 40 years in Washington and helped write the laws the police have used to destroy the black community. You will keep the black community safe and get them back to work. Joe Biden was Vice President for eight years and never did anything to really help the black community. You’ll keep them safe and put them back to work.
The Democrats don’t want to end shelter-in-place but will let Antifa destroy businesses. You want to put people back to work and you want to keep them safe. It is an easy message to apply to any situation.
China? We are too dependent on drugs and goods from China. You want to keep people safe and put them back to work in America, so you want to advocate policies to make us less dependent on China in ways that create manufacturing jobs in America.
Keep your eye on the prize, Mr. President. Americans are ready to get back to work. You need to be advocating policies that do what? Keep people safe and put them back to work.
Focus, Mr. President. You know and I know the American people do not have a long attention span. We are in June. The election is not till November. You get the economy going again and keep people safe and you will win re-election. If you keep fighting in every direction, throwing undisciplined punches, and responding to every provocation and the Democrats are going to keep you off balance and usher you out of office.
Everything right now is a distraction. The economy is the focus. Those voters in the suburbs who don’t like you? They love their 401(K) and if you get it growing, they don’t have to like you, but they’ll vote for you because you kept them safe and got them back to work.
