Doing Well or Good

The English language is so complex. Last night, Megan asked me a question. She said, "If someone says, "How are you?" do you reply, "I'm good" or "I'm well." I said, "I'd reply with a different adjective." That ties in with my tendency to never use tricky English words when I write. For example, I write around using lay / lie in a sentence. I also write around using wrote / written in a sentence. Sometimes I think I'm doing the world a favor to not use these words simply because so many writers using these words incorrectly!
