I've always tried to separate my "real work" from this blog but I'm feeling giddy about recent accomplishments at work. I'm not gloating, but damn, this has been a really AWESOME week at work. I've walked out of work energized because of all of the following items coming together.
- I have been working very hard on a project - to create a brochure about an upgrade to Remote Access - and the PDF I created is in the public domain. From http://hcis.healthcare.uiowa.edu/, click Read More. Here's a direct link.
- I converted and updated this content - https://desktop.healthcare.uiowa.edu/vpn/help/faq.html - using RoboHelp. It will be published soon.
- I have updated the text on http://hcis.healthcare.uiowa.edu/selfservice/help_remote.html. It will be published soon.
In other work-related news, I had other breakthroughs this week:
- A co-worker asked me to set up a RoboHelp project for their support procedures. This means my expertise is making the rounds within the department.
- I met with a co-worker on Monday. I scheduled 30 minutes and we ended up having a free-flowing discussion for 60 minutes. I felt really energized by the conversation and the potential for making significant progress on the Disaster Recovery documentation project that, I admit, has been slow to get traction. This co-worker has disaster recovery documentation for her department maintained with
a Wiki. She & I identified that there are many existing Word documents in her directory structure. The plan is to establish a link between my RoboHelp project and each of those Word docs so the content can be published as part of the Disaster Recovery documentation. Since I love conversion projects, I left her office very excited.
- Yesterday, I pitched an idea to the Associate Vice President (my manager's manager) at 2:12 PM. He replied with "I support [my] plan." At that point, I needed another co-worker to grant me access to a network folder so I sent that request at 3:30 and it was done at 3:38.
I'm rapidly
approaching my 200 day anniversary here - it happens on 10/14 - and I foresee only more awesome days.
