2023-10-18-Foreigner-Concert-in-Coralville

On Wednesday, 10-18-2023, I noticed that Todd Philpott* posted on Facebook that he had two tickets for the Foreigner concert in Coralville. Initially, he wanted to sell them. However, as we messaged back and forth, I learned that he had won the tickets and a parking pass for the concert and didn't have anyone to go with so he wanted to give them away. Eventually, we arrived at the idea that he would drive from Cedar Rapids to my house and then I'd drive to the concert. I thought that was a great idea because, earlier in the night, I had figured out that I didn't have a cell phone charger with me and if I drove, I could swing by my cubicle on the way to Coralville to get the one on my desk. Long story short, we walked into the concert as "Cold as Ice" was coming from their speakers on stage.
Since I don't write concert reviews anymore, I can 'get away' with saying that the concert was really good. I thought the minimalist stage design worked well as they had the keyboardist on the left and drummer Chris Frazier on the right. Frazier is a drummer that I have mentioned exactly once on this blog: WM XXIV, which I published on Saturday, March 29, 2008, which was 5682 days (15 years, 6 months, 2 weeks, 6 days) ago. His credentials are incredible - Steve Vai, Whitesnake, and many more - so it's a testament to how many phenomenal drummers there are on this planet that I haven't mentioned him more recently. After last night's concert, I definitely need to view more of his drumming!
I bought a sticker and a magnet for $15 and resisted the temptation to purchase an autographed tour book for $75 or an autographed vinyl album for $100.

This is the setlist they played https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/foreigner/2023/hero-arena-at-the-mountain-america-center-idaho-falls-id-3a3953f.html so I think we either missed "Double Vision" and "Head Games" or they didn't play those two tunes. Since the tickets were free, I can't complain!

Todd is a friend I've known since ... 7th grade - so from high school, so let's say 1983, so 40 years!

Here are my videos from the concert:

Here are my pictures from the concert:

Foreigner's bassist is Jeff Pilson, who also played bass in Dokken. I interviewed Jeff Pilson, in-person, in 1999 when Dokken was opening for Def Leppard in Cedar Rapids, IA. I wonder if he remembers me... [grin!!] Per Foreigner's lead singer, Kelly Hansen, Jeff had an injury that prevents him from running around on stage so he sat as he played bass.
