Mamdani Promises REVENGE Against White New Yorkers
Growing up, I remember reading about NYC and seeing images of NYC in media and thinking about what if I lived there.
When I was in elementary school, I read a novel called "Children in Hiding" - and I still have it. The novel is about Tomas and Fernanda, two kids who live in NYC. I won't go into the plot but, basically, Tomas learns that they will be put in an orphanage because their parents don't come home. He finds an abandoned apartment and the two of them live there, surviving on scraps. Tomas is a hustler and ends up meeting a photographer named Barbara who takes him to the beach for a photo session. The story ends up working out for them. I wanted to live like that, buying into this romantic idea that life in NYC was the best. On top of that novel, I would read issues of Modern Drummer with interviews with drummers that lived in NYC, soaking in each detail revealed about their lives in The Big Apple.
Fast forward to May 2018. My family drives from Iowa to NYC. We take a train into NYC. We go to the 9-11 museum and see remnants of that horrible tragedy. In the cab, on our way to Central Park, I saw the famous Soup Nazi restaurant from Seinfeld - probably the only episode I ever have watched. We stay in a hotel in Times Square and go to The Lion King and eat at The Hard Rock Cafe, seeing a Count The Stars sticker on a door. The next morning, we go to Good Morning America and end up being on TV with Michael Statham, calling my in-laws to talk to them on a video call. Then we drove up to Syracuse and then to Canada.
I'm certainly not an expert about NYC. I'm certainly glad I never lived in NYC, especially when I watch the Actual Justice Warrior YouTube channel and hear Shawn describe the craziness happening in NYC.

Many Christians around the world will, today, participate in the Tenebrae, a religious ceremony where candles in churches are extinguished to represent the growing darkness in Holy Week.
Two thousand years ago, Judas Iscariot went out to negotiate away the life of Christ.
In the Gospel of John, John used a Greek literary device to highlight right and wrong choices. Read the Gospel and you will see Judas and Peter often together in the same story. Both betray Christ. One abandons all hope. The other seeks and finds restoration. John’s subtle message is to be a Peter.
Jesus chose Judas to be an Apostle. Jesus knew Judas would betray Him. Judas saw the miracles, and Judas was empowered by Christ to perform miracles.
5 These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans, 6 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay.

Did you catch that? Jesus empowered the man who would betray to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, and cast out demons.
Judas, in a bit of irony, would play an instrumental role in raising the dead.
A few days before Jesus’s death, Judas went out into the night, and the darkness began to close in. The man whom God Almighty gave power betrayed God for his own advancement.
We live in the end times. People are turning away from the God of all creation for the old gods — the idols and the damned. People want their ears tickled. They do not want salvation. They want affirmation. Instead of a savior from a spiritual crisis, people want political power that papers over the real problems.
You can feel it all around you. Something is off. Something does not feel right. The darkness is creeping back in. The candles are going out.
But let not your heart be troubled. The darkness cannot shut out the light. It will get worse. But it will get better.
Judas Iscariot could raise the dead and cast out demons. Tempted by the ultimate demon, Judas Iscariot tried to put the giver of life in a grave and appeared successful. But it did not last. Judas Iscariot, charged to raise the dead, did so by betraying the way, the truth, and life. He played a role in God’s master plan.
Even in the darkness, God’s plan prevailed, often in unexpected ways. Don’t lose patience. And don’t expect your life to play out exactly as you planned it. God has a plan for you. Trust him.
Eternity is coming. Christ is coming. Easter is coming. Get ready.

Disturbing Fraternity Hazing Exposed by Cops
University of Iowa- Police arrive at the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity house along with the fire department to investigate a fire alarm that went off. They immediately went to the basement level where the alarm was triggered, what they found was a creepy fraternity hazing ritual going on.
There were 59 pledge brothers in the basement blindfolded with all sorts of stuff on their bodies.
The police were unable to locate anyone on property that would claim to be in charge. One of the people there was impeding the investigation and giving the police a hard time, 21 year old Joseph claimed his name was Jose and that he was a student at the college. ( the university denies that he was actually a student)
Eventually the president of the fraternity came home and spoke to police and he asked the guy that appeared to be involved in the hazing to leave the property.
Joseph was arrested and charged with interference with official acts the following day at his apartment. Those charges were later dropped.
The fraternity did receive a 4 year ban at the university and will not be reinstated until 2029.

Defending Lars Again
I'm 4 minutes in and I'll just say it: why does Lars have to give away his music for free? Why does Lars not wanting a leaked version of a tune - his song - to be distributed make him greedy? No one believes it but I don't own any of Metallica's music. Lars does. If he doesn't want to give it away, who has the authority to make him do so? Not you and not me!
But what about when he traded tapes of his demo? Here's your answer: *he* decided to do that because he's the only one who can!
Why do you think Patreon and similar platforms exist? So that the creators can pay their bills. "But Lars has a huge amount of money!" And? So what? I don't really think the money amount is important. It could be $5 or $500 or some other number. Why should someone be forced to distribute their work for free?
This whole thing took place a long time ago and I was alive and a fan when it didn't. I've defended Lars to so many people and had the same discussion about all of this. The overall vibe seems to be that Lars should have to give away his art for free because fans bought his art before but now, he has enough money. My answer is "What authority do you have to decide if Lars has too much?" That's when I typically have to defend his drumming, which is its own hornet nest...

Paying Tribute to my friend at the Serbi Memorial Jam Session
I owe myself a dedicated page on this blog for my best friend Serbi's life as I have not posted anything about what the past month has been like for me. I also owe this blog a recap of 12-17-2025--> 2026-01-09 as those 3 weeks were 3 weeks of the highest and lowest moments of my life in recent years. In fact, I had two huge things going on in my life simultaneously. Maybe this post becomes a dedicated page about those weeks...
For the time being, the video below was posted on Saturday, 1-10-2026, and I wanted to post what I wrote in the video description on my blog.
For context, this is video from 1-3-2026. Yes, that's me playing drums on stage at the Ideal Theater in Cedar Rapids, IA, in the NewBo area.
If you listen all the way to the end of the video, one of the vocalists gives props to the drummer who doesn't know that song we just finished playing. I had said that I didn't know it as a joke but she took me seriously.
However, it turns out that I didn't play drums per the recording that everyone has heard. For example, I switched to the hihats when I should have been bashing the crash cymbal so I realized that and switched.
Overall, it was such an amazing night and to be playing Serbi's drums felt like I was truly paying tribute to my friend.
As of now, I don't really have any confidence that anyone has video of me playing Van Halen's Ain't Talking about Love, which until video evidence refutes these words, I played it flawlessly!
