Thus, here's an update about the game last night.

No, the Patriots did not defeat the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl last night. In fact, the Patriots were defeated by the Philadelphia Eagles, 41-33. Falling Asleep

Count in music_shell yesterday: 24475 File(s)
Count in music_shell today: 24475 File(s)

I began watching WWE Raw last night in our bedroom and then, when Karen went to bed, I went out to the living room couch. I shouldn't have trusted myself to stay awake for the entire program because the next thing I knew, it was 10:30 PM. I missed the last 30 minutes of Raw. And, of course, that means I missed the return of the Undertaker, who is one of my all-time favorite pro wrestlers. It should have been a clue to me to find a way to stay awake when it was mentioned Brock Lesnar was at Raw as the pro wrestling websites I read all have been speculating that Undertaker would fight Lesnar at Wrestlemania XXX.

The problem is that most of the other matches were, really, not very good. It was boring to watch Del Rio fight Batista because, frankly, I don't care about either. Batista is in the main event at WM XXX against Randy Orton and, well, I don't give a shit. The match between Cesario and Sheamus went too long and the match between Daniel Bryan and Kane went long too.

WWE is going to be in Cedar Rapids on Saturday night. When it was announced, I asked Alex if he wanted to go. He said no. Guess what he said last night? He would go. Too bad he argued with me when I told him he needed to be upstairs and in bed by 9. He turned it around and claimed that I wouldn't let him study. He gets a pass, or so it seems, that he studies in the basement. He doesn't need his iPod or phone to do so, though, so when I took his phone away, he was mad about that. Doesn't make me want to take him to WWE. Doesn't make me want to take him to Skillet in Moline, IL, at the iWireless Center in a couple of weeks. Doesn't make me want to finagle a way to get to Boone, IA, for the LazerFest concert on Mother's Day. It's a good lineup too (of course) with Adelita's Way and The Offspring as well. Sigh.

Moving on, I did practice drums last night but I really need to do so again. The songs I went through were good. "Blister in the Sun" seemed hard for me to nail but "Bad Case of Loving You" was good as was "Mony Mony." Still, I need to do more tonight and tomorrow night to better prepare myself.

Work is busy and I need to get to it.

Through the Never

I was at Best Buy one day early. Metallica's "Through the Never" comes out on DVD today. My plan is that on the way home from going to the Iowa Hawkeyes v. MSU men's basketball game with Megan (game starts at 6), I will swing through Best Buy and pick up the DVD. I get really excited when I talk or write or think about Metallica. I really enjoy the riffs and the drumming and some of the lyrics simply make me turn into goo inside.

I will probably never forget that when I saw "Through the Never" in the theater, it was on a Monday night in October. I drove from North Liberty to the Cedar Rapids theater. I was the only one in the theater. I played my air drums and no one, except maybe the employees, saw me in my glory. It was totally fitting to be in the theater alone. Karen wouldn't go with me - and I don't blame her. I wouldn't want her to sit through something I love just to hate it. Even though it was rated R, Karen didn't approve of the idea of taking 17 year-old Megan to see it. Alex was eliminated from contention because he is 15.

Last night, WWE Raw was interesting. Read the results if you want. Coming off of the Royal Rumble the night before, I expected a great show. And, to me, it was.

  • The Internet is buzzing that John Cena is going to fight the Wyatts at Wrestlemania XXX. Judging by the way the show ended, I think that is true.
  • Golddust / Cody Rhodes got their rematch v. The New Age Outlaws. It ended with Brock Lesnar coming out and slamming each of the Rhodes brothers with a steel chair. I don't know, for sure, if that means Lesnar is going to feud with them or not. I do think Lesnar's mouthpiece, Paul Heyman, is one of the greatest heel managers of all time.
  • Even the main event was good, though it has been done before. The heel team (The Shield) fighting three faces who don't have a lot to do with each other except that they are crowd favorites. Thus, when the Shield took on John Cena / Sheamus (who returned to action at the Royal Rumble) / Daniel Bryan. Bryan, it felt like a repeat. All the crowd favorites have to do is fight.

And, in general, there has been a lot of backlash because he wasn't put into the Royal Rumble match the night before. The storyline is that HHH and Stephanie McMahon didn't want to make him have two matches in the same night, even though he's done that before. Batista won the Royal Rumble, but it was Roman Reigns that has emerged as the real winner. He eliminated more WWE wrestlers than anyone else in a RR match. The tease is that the Shield are going to deteriorate into nothingness, but that wasn't really played up in the main event, which ended when the Wyatt Family attacked John Cena and caused a disqualification for the Shield. That means Cena / Sheamus / Bryan are in the Elimination Chamber match at the next PPV in a month. I fully expected the Shield to go after the Wyatts at the end of Raw, but they didn't.

For as tired as I was from suffering through the movie "Frozen" at 4:10, I was somewhat captivated by the storylines and how they advanced.

Bring Up the Past

Okay... At last year's Wrestlemania, Ric Flair, shown below, "retired" from professional wrestling following a multiple month build up where multiple stars tried to defeat him. The stipulation was that if Flair lost a match, he was done. He wrestled Shawn Michaels @ WM and won, launching a feud between him and Batista. Flair made at least one appearance on an edition of Monday night Raw after the Monday after WM but, after that, he has been off of WWE programming, though occasionally mentioned by the announcers. Why is any of this relevant? Well, I am reading reports that Hulk Hogan has created a professional wrestling tour where he and Flair will wrestle in the main event. There are also rumors that Hulk Hogan will show up on TNA, the only professional wrestling organization that is directly competing with WWE.

I saw the above poster and thought, you know what? That poster has it right. If Flair's body authentically cannot handle the wear and tear anymore, then he should retire and be done. Seriously. What the hell?

That didn't GO the Way I wanted it to GONE & Odds

First, my review of the Odds (or New Odds) is here.

So... Survivor. I have Sugar in my pool. There's Susie and Bob and Sugar. So, I'm in the final 3. I have a 33% chance of winning the office pool and putting some $ in my pocket. There are seven people that vote for the final winner. How many votes does Sugar get?

NONE.

NOT A SINGLE FREAKIN' VOTE!

I would have done better had I had someone who didn't even get to the final 3. NOTHING to show for my entry fee into the pool. What a load of crap. I mean, not a single person thought Sugar deserved $1,000,000. Hmmph. I did.

The other thing that I was wondering about is what would happen at the WWE PPV tonight. Here are the results:
Results
Dark John Morrison and The Miz defeated Jesse and Festus Tag team match
1 Vladimir Kozlov defeated Matt Hardy Singles match
2 CM Punk defeated Rey Mysterio Singles match for a future Intercontinental Championship match
3 Finlay defeated Mark Henry (with Tony Atlas) Belfast Brawl
4 Batista defeated Randy Orton (with Cody Rhodes and Manu) Singles match
5 Maria, Kelly Kelly, Mickie James and Michelle McCool defeated Maryse, Jillian Hall, Victoria and Natalya Eight-Diva Santa's Little Helper tag team match
6 John Cena (c) defeated Chris Jericho Singles match for the World Heavyweight Championship
7 Jeff Hardy defeated Edge (c) and Triple H Triple Threat match for the WWE Championship
(c) - refers to the champion(s) heading into the match
