Kill the Trees . . . but not Today
This is a question I have faced and asked for the last 8251 days (22 years, 7 months, 3 days) - In The Age Of Screen Time, Is Paper Dead? Steve Drummond/Sep 9, 2017. Many times, the answer was a "No, it's not" but usually after a lot of diversions down single-case use cases, such as "What if the user wants to only have a section of the doc available, not the entire PDF? They would print just that page rather than open the PDF and navigate to the page they want to refer to, right?" Perhaps the best (or worst, depending upon your perspective) is when I worked at the Unnamed Hellhole in southern Iowa. Manual typing the TOC, printing the manual, manually verifying the TOC is correct, and then reprinting if incorrect...I call that hell.
Sometimes, I recall the process by which we created the user manual at my first job. For each software version being sent out, we would ship:

December is a Good Month Already
I could easily go broke in December 2017, going to a bunch of concerts. I Prevail is playing on Saturday, December 2, 2017, and the following week - just found out about it - Seether with Shaman's Harvest are playing!

I must say, I'm proud of the response I added to this thread in the RoboHelp forum: Looking for creative Webhelp examples, licensing question
The original post stated "Hi - I think Robohelp will make a good output for our sales manuals. I'm looking for some good examples of professional WebHelp systems online, to demo to management." and then, on Sep 8, 2017 11:27 AM, there was this nudge about the thread:
"...No one (50 views so far) has a webhelp, Responsive HTML 5 or other kind of example to share?..."
That prompted me to do the research I posted about in the thread.

Walking Routine
At work today, I walked up a flight of stairs, walked 2 laps, walked up a flight of stairs, walked 2 laps, walked up a flight of stairs, walked 2 laps, then walked down 3 flights of stairs. I do this somewhat regularly but not as often or regularly as I should. This is my 3rd day at work this week and I've only done this today (not Tuesday or Wednesday). I do this when I arrive at work earlier than 7 AM because I guess I'm a little self-conscious of the people that work on the other 3 floors wondering who I am when I walk by. I prefer to just stay on the fringes of the floor where I have less of a chance of coming across anyone. I use the time to think about my day ahead and mentally prepare for my work.
Sometimes, I see a sign on a cubicle that makes me smirk and then smile. Of course, then I have to snap a quick photo. That's what happened below:

New Phone? New HD?
According to my cell phone provider, I am eligible for a new cell phone. At a name recognition level, I've heard the new Android OS is called "Oreo" so when presented with an article about "Oreo," I read it as was the case when I read this article on Howtogeek.com - How to Limit Background Activity for Apps in Android Oreo to Save Battery Life, which addresses one of my more recent technology challenges: how to keep a positive charge on my cell phone when it 'feels' like I'm not doing anything excessive.
Also, I read this article on Howtogeek.com - How Long Do Solid State Drives Really Last? - with great interest. I remember when Matthew's work laptop died and its replacement was a machine with a solid state drive (SSD). I remember Matthew commented about how fast the laptop booted up in the AM and that he would likely never purchase a machine without a SSD in it. I had that situation / memory in mind when Alex decided the laptop we purchased for him in January 2017 - a Lenova i3 without a SSD - from Best Buy was too slow. We had purchased it in January 2017 so he could use it for his Kirkwood College classes, as opposed to waiting until closer to May 2017 and his high school graduation. As things played out, the i3 was deemed 'too slow' for him to use at UNI so, by July 2017, I found myself at Staples, with Alex, to buy a laptop, which is the machine Alex now uses on a daily basis. The laptop we purchased for him in July 2017 - a Lenova i5 with a SSD - from Staples seems to be working out well for him.

30 Days in Chicago? Hell to the No!

Nonetheless, I will say I hope their festival is successful because it is for people to hear live bands. That said, I don't know how many of the acts actually have a drummer playing with them. I'd be curious to know, but I won't investigate it further.

Plans for Today through Monday
It has been a little bit - 2 weeks, 2 days - since we moved Alex and Megan into their living quarters at UNI. Today is when we will see them for the first time since that day.
The kids are driving from Cedar Falls to Elkader to spend the weekend at

Back to the Future with RoboHelp
With hesitation but a resolve to do what must be done, I went back to a backup of my Disaster Recovery project in RoboHelp and am deleting all the broken links to the Word docs that I created when I moved folders. As you can see, there's a lot of them:
Wait. It just occurred to me I could re-create the folder I deleted and move the missing Word docs back to that folder!
All this on a Friday at 7:28 AM! It's going to be a great day!!!

New Old Bayside Tunes
It was with great joy that I saw Bayside released 13 (!!) videos yesterday! I created a playlist for the videos:
That's so cool! It's the 10 year anniversary of "The Walking Wounded" and so they are celebrating that with some gigs - closest one is Chicago at a festival called Riot Fest on Saturday, September 16th. It was pre-planned months ago what we're doing that weekend. We have tickets for the UNI football game in Cedar Falls.
I never really considered going to Chicago.
Back to Bayside, I would truly love to update this page: Bayside Concerts
That's why I sincerely hope the band is using this 10 year anniversary as a brief pause before embarking upon a second leg of their tour in support of "Vacancy," which I still listen to frequently. I know they didn't stop in Des Moines or Iowa City (which they usually do on their tours) and I'd really like to hear "The Ghost" in person. Today, because I don't know of their specific plans for a second leg, I'm full of hope and anticipation that I will be able to see them in concert prior to, oh, the end of 2018. I have my fingers crossed.
In other 'favorite band' news, I know Metallica is off to Europe this fall for a leg of their world tour so I don't expect to hear of any concerts in the area until later this year, which is when I hope they announce another summer tour in stadiums / outside venues. Maybe, just maybe, Kinnick Stadium will get the call to hold another fundraiser for Ashton Kucher's charity!
