Trying MusicBee

I think I am giving up on Windows Media Player. Yesterday, I created a collection of KISS tunes that I wanted to call "00_S1ngles" and when I used the "Find Album Info" and the window where I used to be able to define an album has been changed. There is no longer the option to manually change MP3 file information - I have to choose a pre-defined album, which is not what I want at all.

Thus, I am giving up on Windows Media Player and going to try a freeware called MusicBee. As you can see in the screenshot below, I am creating a library with all 6 of my EHDs.

Both Big Ten and UNI Football Canceled for Fall 2020

Yesterday, this news came to be: Big Ten football canceled for fall; no games for 2020 season.

It follows news late last week that UNI football is cancelled for the Fall 2020 season and might return for a Spring 2021 season, though no schedule information has been released. This will be Alex's senior year at UNI. The UNI football games have been part of our Fall tradition for the last 5 years, when Megan began as a freshman. It will be very strange to not be travelling to Cedar Falls to see a football game in the UNI-Dome.

From LU's Personal Camcorder

If you pay attention, you know that Metallica's And Justice for All album is one of my favorites and that it was on the tour in support of that album when I saw Metallica for the first time. You also probably remember that I have confessed that I don't remember that concert. I remember the lights going down for The Cult, who were opening the show, and that the spotlight then went to Matt Sorum who started playing this amazing tom pattern to introduce the first tune. I don't remember anything else. No, I was not drunk. I also remember that after the concert, a guy who used to live across the street from me, Steve D, asked me to give one of his friends a ride home. His friend turned out to be Scott Golden, who I cite as being the first singer in my first band, which was started in the summer of 1989 in 3904 Studios with James on guitar, Ken on guitar, and John on bass. We called ourselves "Assume" and it was an exciting time in my life. To read more about Assume, click the Assume label. But back to Metallica. I truly wish I could remember more about that concert on that June night in 1989. It makes me seriously wish that I had kept track of all the concerts I attended in a single notebook with my initial impression of what I had seen the night before. Oh well... Anyways, enjoy this video.

Hope and Reality

From Reality and Hope by Erick Erickson:
Lately, however, much of the conservative movement exists only to advance President Trump. It is no longer distinct. Many of the institutional and outside voices of conservatism have abandoned their distinct credibility to serve as cheerleaders for Trump in ways they would never have dared less than two decades ago when George W. Bush was President. In 2008, conservatives mounted efforts to fight President Bush’s bailouts of General Motors and American financial institutions arguing, among other things, that to bail them out would create moral hazards.
Fast forward just over a decade and many of the same conservatives who stood up to Bush and fought President Obama for sequestration have bent over backward to add multiple more trillions of dollars to the national debt under President Trump. Deficits and debt no longer matter to an intellectual movement that, less than a decade ago, forced the first real spending cuts by holding hostage a debt ceiling increase even as the Republican Party elite excoriated conservative stalwarts.

The fact that EE can string a phrase together like excoriated conservative stalwarts and not do it because he is trying to be more than he is is inspiring to me as a writer.

Missed This 365 Days Ago

I wonder how many of the bands at last year's concert are actively touring in 2020?

The Fat Turtles

This band is seeking a drummer, per the Iowa City > Community > Musicians page. I'm not entirely sure I would be a right fit but, hey, any band that records original music and plays venues other than a rehearsal room is an Ideal Band...

Great Setlist

Obviously, since I play drums, I am not the right person for this role. I just wanted to point out that I know all of these tunes. The fact that Ratt's "Lay It Down" is included is super-duper awesome.

Roll

Few Things To Note

  1. This is a snapshot of the synch job between the A:\Music-Final_A folder, which is the folder to which I have copied all MP3s from L:\Music_shell but put them in a single, flat, directory and P:\Music-Final_A, which is a backup of the A:\Music-Final_A folder.
  2. The name of the synch job - e-jpg--e-jpg2-synch - has nothing to do with making the A:\Music-Final_A folder match the P:\Music-Final_A folder - that information is being pointed to by the red double arrows.
  3. The synch job began yesterday, 7/17/2020, at 9:08:22 AM - that information is in the green box.
  4. It's a little hard to see, but the synch job is moving 98,197 files from A:\Music-Shell_A to P:\Music-Shell_A as well as deleting 98,239 files from P:\Music-Shell_A - that information is at the bottom of the screenshot within the purple box.
  5. The synch job is at 63.64% complete and has 10 hours remaining, which means it should be complete around 5 PM today, based upon the current time of 7 AM.

Another Funny Thing I Saw

It's an Adjective

Dumbest Things From 3 Years Ago

Who?

In a video about great power trios, Rick Beato mentioned the band called "Failure" and that their single "Stuck On You" had garnered them some success. Until Beato said that, I had never heard of this band. This is a screenshot from the video below:

With a little research, I found the tune on YouTube:

And, of course, the video in which Rick Beato mentioned them.

Breaking out of Florida State Prison

I like the "Fresh Out" YouTube channel. Big Herc is a great big dude who can spin a story. He had a three part interview with a guy who was in the FL prison system for a long time.

Also, because I liked the Netflix show "Orange is the New Black," this video caught my attention:
