It was 3453 days ago (or 9 years, 5 months, 1 week, 6 days) when I wrote the following:
I was up until ~midnight and fell asleep almost immediately. What would I be doing up so late? I watched WWE - had to see how "Randy Orton & John Cena v. the 'entire Raw roster' would fail me. It did. It wasn't the entire Raw roster - it was hand-picked weaklings. Ric Flair, Kane, Shawn Michaels, even the Big Show - not involved. That's irritating. Instead of any of those four, you get <ahem> Hacksaw Jim Duggan. At least Umaga got a double clothesline in that dropped my jaw.
After Raw, hopped on the PC. Lots of Hotmail emails, including a reminder to write reviews from myself. Yeah. Uh-huh.
I also started going through a stack of poems/songs I whittled down from a lot larger stack and organized them into stacks. 100. Going to integrate them into my daily journal. Most are from ~1992 and the heyday of my song / poetry writing. Some are impressive (to me) - others suck.
Came in to work @ 5:30 and have been cleaning up projects that are on the next update.
Also, I meet with the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow AM @ 8:15. Have to reschedule my dentist appointment @ 8.
It's fitting that I wrote about professional wrestling, my journal, work, and the idea that I need to write music reviews.
A lot has changed and yet, a lot of my life feels the same with one major exception. Back in March 2008, I drank booze on a regular basis. I was 1018 days from deciding to quit drinking. Today, it is 6 years, 8 months without a drop of booze. I am happy (still) about that decision. My sincere hope is that I never lose that ideal in my life. Bring on the next 5K posts - I want to know where I'm going!

Why Oh Why!
This was PERFECT (except that it's in the Twin Cities and all) until I read this:
We will need you to sing lead on a couple songs and back-up harmonies on many, so singing is a requirement.
I can't sing. Period. Full stop.
That said, I like the set list a lot.

Looking for a drummer to join our gigging band (Twin Cities)
We are a variety cover band that plays out once or twice a month and practices once a week.
We are 4 guys -- guitar, keyboards, bass and a vocalist (we live in Rosemount, Prior Lake, Plymouth and Stillwater - so basically the four corners of the Twin Cities) - and we need a drummer to join the band because our current drummer is moving on to other things.
We are older guys in our late 50s and early 60s and we play music from the 60s-80s - rock, pop and some country. We all take turns with lead vocals and harmonies. We will need you to sing lead on a couple songs and back-up harmonies on many, so singing is a requirement.
We are a very laid back, non-hyper band with no big egos, no drinking or drug problems and no drama. We just love to play music and get people to drink and dance and tip the bar staff well. :-)
We have about 100 songs in our repertoire and play about 50 of them at any given gig (4 sets of 13 songs over 4 hours).
Here are some of the songs we do. If this sounds like the kind of music you like to play, contact me and we'll set up an audition. (You are also welcome to bring new songs, too. We always like to add songs and expand our horizons.)

I mean, seriously, is there a drummer that plays just like this?!?
Honestly, the first name to come to mind is Mike Portnoy. He would be able to do this gig.

The Hawks & Panthers & Cyclones are in Action
In two short days, the 2017 football season will kick off. I will be going to 4 UNI football games in the UNI-Dome (missing 1 due to a wedding in Dubuque) and zero Iowa Hawkeye games. Of course, yes, I will watch the Hawkeyes play on TV whenever I can.
- The Iowa football team plays @ Kinnick Stadium on Saturday @ 11 AM. I hope to find someone in Elkader watching the game - perhaps Jim R (our neighbor) will have it on.
- The UNI football team plays @ Ames on Saturday @ 7 PM.

About Politics and Such
I gave up on Get Your Political Opinions 2.0 after a month. At the time, I stated I wasn't interested in keeping up with all that was happening. And, because I always write honestly on this blog, that was true at that specific moment in time.
Starting tomorrow, I will resume posting political items on a single page.
What changed my mind?
I looked at the posts I had in August 2017 and saw I tagged 29 posts "politics" and "Republican tendencies" in August 2017.
In looking back, I now realize that I never wasn't interested in politics / my Republican tendencies - I just didn't feel the drive / urge to devote the time to maintaining a single page. I think I thought I would be reducing the number of posts about politics in the coming weeks.
Obviously, that didn't happen. While I'm all for having a 'good' number of posts per month, it feels shallow when there is slightly over 1/4 of my total posts having the same tags. I also am not really a political 'mastermind' meaning I don't have a lot of original thoughts regarding politics. I have my opinions but a majority of the time, I link or embed someone else stating an opinion I agree with. I often wonder how people got into my head to know "That's what I was thinking!"
This has opened a bigger can of worms. Seeing the as-of-this-monent "Top 10 tags" on this blog causes me to pause. Here are the top 10 tags as of this moment.:
I wondered if there would be value in creating a page for each of those 'primary' interests and posting all of those posts on a single page. Wouldn't it be nice to not have to dig around for the 589 times I wrote about Metallica? I don't see how I can really do that, though. In the past, on the same post that I used "Metallica" as a tag, I likely used "Videos" as a tag. Would that post, with both tags, then go on the hypothetical "Videos" page or the hypothetical "Metallica" page? I would NEVER put that post on both pages as that would break every rule of single-sourcing - to copy / paste content from one page to another. I also am uninterested in shaping the words I write on this blog by the labels I am using. That seems very wrong.
Today, though, I am focusing on writing 13 posts today. I want to do that so when I write my first blog post in September 2017, it is the 5001st post on this blog. Yep! I'm within striking distance of hitting 5000 published posts today, Thursday, August 31, 2017. I use 3/18/2008 as my first blog post (because I took that long break between post #1 & post #2) so, from that day to today is 3453 days.
Assuming I hit 5000 posts today, I will have averaged 1.448 posts a day since I started. That means, at that same pace, I will reach my 10,000th post on Monday, February 15, 2027, when I am 57 years, 2 months, 1 week, 4 days old. It's in 20892 days.
Editor's Note: Thanks to http://unitconverter.io/days/years/3453 for helping me out with the date calculation.

A Final Grasp as the Goal Line Comes Closer
Editor's Note: This is going to be one of the final individual posts about with the tags "politics" and "Republican tendencies" as tomorrow, September 1, 2017, I will revive the "Get Your Political Opinions" pages with a 3.0 version. You have been warned...

Define "A Few"
I took this screenshot a few minutes ago. I am scanning my u:, v:\, y:, and z:\ EHDs for duplicate files using Auslogics Duplicate File Finder. I knew when I started the scan, it would take a long time.
Yet, seeing the Auslogics message makes me chuckle:
And it's in the home stretch now!
Meanwhile, I am also running a synch between my v: drive and my b: drive:
It's ~6:38 PM and it has 4 hours to go - I should still be awake when it is done.
- The u: is a 2 TB drive
- The v: is a 1 TB drive
- The y: is a 4 TB drive
- The z: is a 2 TB drive
- (1.38 tb) + (643 GB) + (2.69 TB) + (.99 TB) = 5.70300 terabytes of files to process.
Yet, seeing the Auslogics message makes me chuckle:

A Separate Query to TCS Support
I sent this to TCS Support as well. I don't know if I'll get a response or not...
|
As I was reviewing the RoboHelp help text / documentation, I had a question: are snippets being used?
For example, there are 16 results when I searched for “Select File > Options” in the help system. Is that a snippet?
It would be really awesome for me as a user of your product to have that text also show a screenshot. It would be so easy and a great use of RoboHelp to do some of the single sourcing / snippets / user-defined variable type stuff that the tool can do! You could do that with “Notes” as well. I see all sorts of different way they are formatted. There’s all caps with a colon, there’s all caps, bold / italic with a colon, there’s instances within the same topic where a note is on a separate and also where it runs into the paragraph. I saw another page where there are notes within a bulleted list and the note is indented with the text, except for the last note, which is aligned with the left margin.
There’s also a lot of inconsistency in how the text is written like on http://help.adobe.com/en_US/robohelp/2017/robohtml/index.html#rhsearch=%22NOTE%22&rhsyns=%20&t=book%2Frob_layouts_la%2FGenerate_EPUB_and_Kindle_Book_output-.htm&rhhlterm=%22NOTE%22, in the EPUB resources section.

And, for the Digital Editions blog, the most recent post is from 7 years ago! Is there no other more recent information?!?
And, on top of that, one of the links is broken. This is in the Adobe RoboHelp (2017 release) documentation: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/robohelp/2017/robohtml/index.html#t=book%2Frob_gettingstarted_gs%2FGetting_started-.htm

Greetings from Adobe.
Whenever you try to update a broken link in RoboHelp it redirects you to its default location where the file was stored. By default, there is no option to change that location to a different location In RoboHelp.
The relinking of the files can only be done manually on the project.
Please let us know if you still have any further queries regarding the same.

I have some broken links in my project (red box) because I changed the location of my Word documents. When I right-click to re-link the Word document, I am taken to the “My RoboHelp Projects” folder (purple box). Is there a way to change this to be a network drive folder? I was able to create a shortcut in the shortcuts area under Samples (shown in the green box) so when I get to the My RoboHelp Projects folder, I can click the __Future icon, but it’d be really great to just be able to set my default folder as I have ~300 Word docs to relink.

And this is what I wrote back:
It would
be great to have a way to update the path to multiple linked Word documents. In
my case, I have ~300 Word docs to relink and doing it one-by-one is
time-consuming and, well, boring!
Anyways, thank you for the great
information about the default folder. I had looked at this topic: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/robohelp/2017/robohtml/index.html#rhsearch=link%20word%20documents&rhhlterm=link%20word%20documents&rhsyns=%20&t=book%2Frob_basics_ba%2FSynchronizing_linked_Word_documents_with_RoboHelp_projects-.htm
for that information, but didn’t see it. It’s that type of information that
gives a ‘real-life’ scenario that makes documentation / help text useful. I can
figure out the mechanics of how to do something fairly easily. When I read the
help text, I want to know any potential downfalls before I do it so I can
decide whether or not to do it.
Thus, I think the help text should
be updated. I would add a caution or note at the top of the above page. The
text would inform the user the following:
1) you have to restore links one
document at a time
and
2) recommend that you do not
link Word documents until their location is stable.
Here’s a rough first draft that
needs editing as to what I’m thinking:
|
Caution: We recommend not linking to a Word document
unless the file is being stored in a permanent location. If the Word document’s
permanent location is in flux, wait until it is more stable. Restoring
the links to many Word documents requires selecting each Word document one at a
time and restoring the link. If you move the location of, for example, 50
linked Word documents, you will need to restore the link to those 50 Word
documents one at a time, which can be a time-consuming process.
|
Then, in the “Restore a link to
a missing or renamed Word document” section, step 2 could be updated too:
|
2)Select Restore Link To Word File,
and browse to select the new location of the missing file. When you restore a broken link,
the location where the file was stored displays. By default, there is no option
to change that location to a different location. You can only restore links to linked
Word documents manually. You can add a location to the left side of the window
using the Tools > Add to “My Places” option.
|
Also, in the Delete a
linked Word document
section, I really think you need a note or something that makes it more obvious
that you cannot delete multiple linked Word documents at once.
|
You can directly delete a linked document, one at a
time, from the Project Files folder. You can delete the references to the documents linked
by reference.
1)Right-click a document and
select Delete.
When you delete a linked file,
all its associated documents, such as CSS, images, baggage files, and
multimedia files, are also deleted.
|
Thanks for your prompt response
to my initial query.
