Elias disrespects Jeff Jarrett, Road Dogg and the people of Portland: Raw, Feb. 4, 2019

I love nostalgia, as much as the next guy, when it is serving a purpose.

A feud between Elias & Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett (with Road Dogg) serves no purpose. Maybe there is some reason for this feud but, to me, there has to be some non-WWE Hall of Famer talent on the WWE roster that would be a better feud for Elias. My issue is that I like Elias as a tweener, which means that he is not a full-fledged villain (heel) and not a full-fledged good guy (face). His character seems to fit that tweener area nicely because it's rather subtle when he acts as a face. A couple of weeks ago, all he did was tell Braun Strowman (another face) where to go to find Baron Corbin, who Strowman was chasing. It was subtle. A heel wouldn't have helped Strowman. When Elias is a heel, you know it. He tells the audience to shut their mouths and insults the city he is in with an original song. Is Elias actually a talented guitarist? It seems so - I believe his character is a talented guitarist.

I guess the overall story arc is unclear, at this point. Yes, Jeff Jarrett & Elias tangled at the Royal Rumble PPV last month so, sure, I get that this feud had a good starting point and it makes sense for the two of them to be feuding. Still, as I wrote above, is there really not some non-WWE Hall of Famer talent on the WWE roster that would be a better feud for Elias? Jeff Jarrett & Road Dogg are not long-term members of the roster. Jeff Jarrett is 51; Road Dogg is 49; Elias is 31. That tells me, frankly, that Elias has (roughly) 20 more years of pro wrestling ahead of him.
