I am not a death metal / growly vocal music fan. As I'm sure I've documented on other posts on this blog, I tend to still listen to those bands because I find the drummers to be interesting. I'm thinking of Chris Adler in Lamb of God as an example. For ATHANASIA's tune "The Order Of The Silver Compass," the aspect that stuck out to me is how there is a difference in the singer's vocal delivery. Sometimes he's guttural and I don't understand what he is singing. Other times, he has a metal vocalist style and I do understand what he is singing. When I watched the ATHANASIA video, I was aware of how much confidence exuded from them. Granted, it's a "music video" but that's still not a reason to sense that they would be a great band live.
Then I got to a tune called "Turbines" by the band INTRCPTR. It also has traits I want in an "Ideal Band." The tune is instrumental and I can tell they worked on the song structure as there's not vocals to be a roadmap for them to go from section to section. It sounds like a jam session!
