Where Was I on Mar 28 2000?!?
I heard on the radio today that The Donnas are going to be at the Iowa State Fair. It made me think about their music and how I like their attitude. Their Spend the Night album is my favorite.

CR traffic cams: 4 days, 5,100 tickets
1275 tickets a day in Cedar Rapids... WOW!! From today's Corridor Business Journal:
Traffic cameras reactivated by the Cedar Rapids Police Department on July 1 issued 5,100 citations in their first four days of operation, reports the Gazette. Cameras on the northbound and southbound lanes of I-380 at J Avenue NE accounted for nearly 4,500 tickets, most for going 12-20 mph over the 55 mph speed limit. Police said they have been made aware of at least one instance where a driver got a ticket for driving 60 mph in a 55 mph zone, reports KCRG. That ticket will be dismissed, as will others issued for exceeding the speed limit by less than 12 miles an hour, according to police.
Het Makes a Phone Call = News?
Wow! James Hetfield knows how to make a phone call because when he called the woman who used the Metallica tune "Don't Tread on Me" to scare off a cougar, it was deemed news: James Hetfield Calls Woman Who Played Metallica to Scare Off Cougar. It's a sign of the times, I suppose. There used to be this wall between "famous musicians" and "fans," but more and more, that wall is crumbling.
New Tool - Not New Bayside
- Immunity long overdue
Contagion I exhale you
Lying I opened up to you
Venom in mania
Now, contagion I exhale you
The deceiver he says you belong to me
You don’t want to breathe the light of the others
Fear the light
Fear the breathe
Fear the others for eternity
But I hear them now inhale the clarity
Hear the venom, the venom in what you say — inoculated
Bless this immunity
Bless this immunity
Bless this immunity
Exhale, expel
Recast my tale
Weave my allegorical elegy
Enumerate
All that I’m to do
Calculating steps away from you
My own mitosis
Growing through delusion from mania
Exhale, expel
Recast my tale with my allegorical elegy
Forfeit all control
You poison
You spectacle
Exorcise the spectacle
Exorcise the malady
Exorcise the disparate
Poison for eternity
Purge me and evacuate
The venom and the fear that binds me
Unveil now
Lift away
I see you running
Deceiver chased away
A long time coming - I will change, I will change
I swear, just tell me what to do
Just tell me who to be
And I'll be who you want me to
Pretend I don't exist
You won't know I'm in the room
I'll be the ghost of something
That used to mean something to you
This beaten up heart
Is lost and confused
I wish that my younger self was here
He'd know just what to do
Boy could he talk
Well he'd know just what to say
Moving up is moving on from where you came
Stop me if I'm boring you
I'm painfully aware
That you've got better ways to waste your time, time, time
I will change, I will change
I swear, just tell me what to do
Just tell me who to be
And I'll be who you want me to
Pretend I don't exist
You won't know I'm in the room
I'll be the ghost of something
That used to mean something to you
Say this isn't real
Say this was a joke
Say there's still space for me in bed
Cause I can't live alone
Oh pitiful me, I'll do anything you say
I'd soon as suffocate with you than stay away
And I knew all this years ago
But couldn't take the hint
You match my overcompensation
With your own ambivalence
I will change, I will change
I swear, just tell me what to do
Just tell me who to be
And I'll be who you want me to
Pretend I don't exist
You won't know I'm in the room
I'll be the ghost of something
That used to mean something to you
When I got the call
I was on the road
Three weeks in Europe 'til I got home
So what would make you stay
I'll build a mountain I'll change my name
I don't have to breathe if all my air gets in your way
I will change, I will change
I swear, just tell me what to do
Just tell me who to be
And I'll be who you want me to
Pretend I don't exist
You won't know I'm in the room
I'll be the ghost of something
That used to mean something to you
That should've meant something to you
Shift the Record Label Paradigm
This article proposes a paradigm shift to being focused on the user when it comes to streaming services: A user-centric streaming model could save the music industry [op-ed] and, in theory, this makes sense to me. As the article states, "Being a musician and expecting to make a living is now considered a
fool’s dream, despite the bar to entry being lower than ever,
distribution channels being open to all, and the chance of widespread
exposure being basically democratised – in theory if not in reality." Until I read this article, I didn't realize how a streaming service like Spotify pays musicians - it's quite fascinating to digest the way it works.
I think back to the 1980s. The music industry was centered around record labels. A record label released albums to listeners. A record label would decide whether a band's album was going to be released. I remember reading about how bands would send their demo tapes to any and every record label in existence in the hope of being signed to a contract. Imagine being paid to write and record their music on an album! There were so many bands that tried to get signed and never did. Conversely, there are many bands that were signed and never should have been!
Then, in the 1990s, technology allowed a band to self-release their album. More and more recording studios began to exist. Some existed as a co-op which allowed a recording studio to establish credibility while also giving the band a way to release their music. That shifted in the 2000s with the expansion of the Internet. Countless bands created a website and posted a MP3 of their music and then relied upon marketing and advertising to generate interest and sales.
Who knows what the next paradigm shift looks like?

Unfair
It's totally unfair!
If President Trump does proclaim white nationalism is evil, the Huffington Post says Trump is "Empty And Disingenuous" (see below). But, on the other hand, if President Trump doesn't proclaim white nationalism is evil, the Huffington Post says Trump is encouraging white nationalism.
Here are his remarks, from Here are Trump’s Remarks On The Shootings Over The Weekend:
And here's how the Huffington Post reported those remarks: Donald Trump's Speech After Mass Shootings Was Empty And Disingenuous.

When I heard this tune, I thought that there were a lot of similarities between the narrator and my life.

The Current and Future
Avengers: Endgame was released on DVD on Tuesday, July 30, 2019. I enjoyed reading the following articles about it.
- What Makes 'The Portals Scene' In 'Avengers: Endgame' The Most Emotional Moment In Blockbuster Movie History? - Entertainment - Mashable India
- Marvel is known to try to mislead fans with trailers for upcoming films. In the cast of Avengers: Endgame, the film itself continues the charade into the opening act.
Upcoming Marvel Studios projects include
- Black Widow on May 1, 2020
- The Falcon and The Winter Soldier in fall 2020
- The Eternals on November 6, 2020
- Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on February 12, 2021
- Wanda Vision in spring 2021
- Loki in spring 2021
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on May 7, 2021
- What If? In summer 2021
- Hawkeye in fall 2021
- Thor: Love and Thunder on November 5, 2021.
- Where is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?"
- The ending of Avengers: Endgame implied that Thor was going to go with the Guardians of the Galaxy team which, I think, is a great idea. The interaction between Star-Lord and Thor was a highlight of Avengers: Infinity War - I hope it's a relationship that is developed in the next movie.
- Where is Black Panther 2?
- Where is Captain Marvel 2?
- Both BP 2 and CM 2 would be a well-deserved sequel
- Where is a third movie about Ant-Man & the Wasp - which I hope is made as I enjoy Paul Rudd as Ant-Man.
- Where is a third Spider-Man movie?
- After the cliffhanger in Spider-Man: Far From Home and the re-introduction of James Jonah Jameson (JJJ), played by the same actor who played the character in the Tobey McQuire trio of movies, I want to see that too.
- Is the list above complete?
- Are there plans to ever stop making movies about the Marvel universe?
- Will there ever be a movie that is "bigger" than Avengers: Endgame?
- This would be a movie that would include all the characters from the Phase One & Phase Two movies as well as all the characters from the Phase Three movies?
- Will I ever sit through The Incredible Hulk?
- Will I ever sit through Thor: Dark World?
- Will I ever sit through Doctor Strange?
This was My House 6 Months Ago
I'm writing these words on Monday, February 4, 2019, to describe the picture I took on Saturday, February 2, 2019. This is our house. Notice how high the snow is around the mailbox? It was crazy!
I'm creating this post with zero knowledge of what the last 6 months have been like, weather-wise. It could be that it's been so hot, seeing snow is a good thing. I have no idea. I just wanted to "not forget" that 6 months ago, there was a lot of snow on the ground!

Ain't this a beauty!
I saw this kit today on the page cited below. It was "on sale" for $8,099.99, which was $647.04 less than what it normally costs. The page proclaims that I could purchase it and then spread out the payments over 36 months, interest free. That means it would only require $225 a month!
It got me thinking about the idea of purchasing it and then using whatever money I earn from playing gigs to pay it off. Since I want to only play 1 gig / month and hope to earn $100 at each gig, I'm looking at $1200 / year. That means I would earn enough money from gigs to pay it off in roughly 7 years!
Will I play in bands leading up to my 57th birthday? Who knows what the future holds for me. In any scenario, that's a lot of gigs and a lot of money. I will not base a purchase like this on the premise that I would join my Ideal Band or even multiple Ideal Bands over the next 7 years and consistently play gigs for the next 7 years. Thus, this purchase is, quite simply, NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!
I found it here https://www.kraftmusic.com/roland-td-50kvx-v-drums-6pc-electronic-drum-set-drum-essentials-bundle.html. Maybe, someday, it will be on sale for a reasonable price!
