The source for the Technical Writer position description within Uh, No!! was not properly cited. It came from the Techwr-L list. There has been an interesting thread about the position description, including whether it was biased.

Westward Ho!

I may or may not be taking a break from posting to this blog as I am leaving on Sunday, February 16, 2020, for a business trip to Las Vegas, NV. I fly out of the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids at 12:22 PM and, per my ticket, I will be in Las Vegas, NV, by 1:51 PM. I fly out of Las Vegas, NV, on Thursday, February 20, 2020, at 6:35 AM and, per my ticket, I will be in Cedar Rapids, IA, by 11:32 AM.

I am excited to be attending the PinkConference and I hope I learn a lot.

I checked the weather forecast and saw this:

I'm uncertain whether I will take the time to write posts on this blog while I'm in Las Vegas. Part of me believes writing a post nightly might be a good way to unwind and capture what it's like to be in Las Vegas "in the moment" instead of writing a summary based upon my memory at the conclusion of the trip.

Editor's Note: Use 2020-LasVegasTrip as the label for this post as well as any other posts during the trip.

I Do Every Day: Roses are red, dishes are dirty

Yesterday, I sent these roses to Karen.

The following was in my Inbox today.

I Do Every Day: Roses are red, dishes are dirty
By Lisa Lakey

Ah, Valentine’s Day. Twenty-four hours of romance, red roses, candlelight, and love, right?

Maybe. Honestly, I don’t know the last time my husband sent me a dozen red roses.

I’m not saying he’s not romantic. The man has his moments.

But to be completely honest, we both feel Valentine’s Day comes far too soon after the big holiday season. Seriously. I’ve barely given up on New Year’s resolutions.

But before you think I’m going to give you an out on Valentine’s Day, think again. Do the dinner, buy the roses if that’s your thing (or your spouse’s). A reminder of your love is never a bad thing.

But …

Can we all just agree Valentine’s Day is not the be-all, end-all, final judgment on the romance level of your marriage?

If your wife forgets to get you a card, but shows you how special you are in a hundred little ways the rest of the year, is it really that big of a deal? Probably not.

If your husband fails to send the dang roses yet he is a faithful, loving husband the other 364 days of the year, is it really cause for the cold shoulder?

Last night, my husband gave me the gift of clean dishes. I was exhausted and still finishing a work assignment after the kids went to bed. He had worked a 12-hour shift, and knowing I still had a to-do list to complete, he put the remains of dinner away and loaded the dishwasher without a word.

So if I wake up on Valentine’s Day to find my husband has already left for work, yet put my favorite mug by the coffee maker with a fresh K-cup ready to go? I’ll take it.

Romance isn’t one day a year. It’s mutual love and respect regardless of what day is on the calendar.

Besides, I’ll take coffee and clean dishes in favor of overpriced roses any day.

I don't know what Lisa Lakey is talking about in this article. I don't know why she would accept doing a regular household task as a VD gift when she writes this:

If your husband fails to send the dang roses yet he is a faithful, loving husband the other 364 days of the year, is it really cause for the cold shoulder?

Last night, my husband gave me the gift of clean dishes. I was exhausted and still finishing a work assignment after the kids went to bed. He had worked a 12-hour shift, and knowing I still had a to-do list to complete, he put the remains of dinner away and loaded the dishwasher without a word.

Second, CJ Frederick injured his body during the game.
Third, there was no answer for a dude coming off the bench and nailing 4 x 3 point shots.

The next game is against MN on Sunday in the Twin Cities. The team needs a W.

107 Facts

Tribute to Rush that I DID NOT Write

A friend of mine years ago told me that when you’re traveling through the town of Misery don’t stop to look around. I thought it was good advice. Neil’s passing hasn’t been easy but I take comfort in believing a couple of things. First, he set out to be the best he could be and I think he achieved that beyond measure. Second, he didn’t care about fame or fortune yet he acquired both as a “consequence” of his actions. He lost a family yet gained a new one. Some never do. He had a second family in Geddy and Alex, something I’m sure he never took for granted. Many great bands didn’t have what Rush had, the Beatles certainly didn’t, Kiss doesn’t , and Metallica doesn’t. There’s no feeling of true brotherhood in those bands like Rush had. They worked and got along perfectly whereas other bands fought and hated each other to the point of breaking up. Neil had a loving family and loving band mates. He literally had everything most people wish they could have and that’s leaving money and fame aside. Most importantly I believe that the man who couldn’t pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend did us all a favor by not telling us what he was going through. We feel as though Neil is family and I know how I would feel if a family member is fighting a no win battle. It would suck beyond all measure. He spared us that and I believe it was his last and most important selfless act for his fans. Thanks to Geddy and Alex for taking on that burden for us all. Rush is like no other band in the world!

You are going to be okay

This was something I saw on the Craigslist > Denver > musicians page. I thought it was an inspirational message.

CL < https: //denver.craigslist.org/> > denver > musicians

You're going to be okay (Denver Colorado)

You are going to make it. You are going to be okay. I want you, my wonderfully unique member of our music community, to hear that. You are valuable. You are loved.

I feel that the life of a musician can be uniquely taxing on mental wellness for many of us. Touring can take a toll. Frustrations of making money in a continually evolving and highly competitive industry can be taxing. Then there are life's challenges that we all face. People we love exit our lives. Things we count on fail us. The human experience is messy and it can be really challenging. But you are not alone, no matter how you feel in the moment.

I've recently been through one of those extremely trying times and wasn't sure for a while that I had the strength to go on. I'm so glad that I did. I partially accessed the strength and love I needed from connecting with the music community. I now feel compelled to give back to you all. So, I want you to hear that, if you're struggling too. The sun will come up again.

Also, I've gained a LOT of information about support for musicians (and other humans) through my process. I'm happy to share whatever it is that would help you. This includes in person music wellness meetings, online resources, discounts for talk therapy available to musicians, etc. I invite you to connect with me if you want access to any of what I've learned, or if you just want to talk it out (whatever IT is for you).

Otherwise just know this: Everything is going to be okay. Your music family loves you. I'm glad that you exist, friend! Reach out if you like. I want to hear what's really going on with you.

2 Ads for Cassette Tapes by 2 Delusional Sellers

In today's episode of Delusional Sellers, we have someone selling cassette tapes which includes a band by the name of Megadeath:

We also have a delusional seller that is offering 49 cassette tapes for $60, which comes to $.82 a cassette tape, when rounded up. Why not make it something reasonable, like $.25 a cassette tape? While it's true the delusional seller would receive $12.25 at that price, which is certainly a lot less than $60!

I hope that no one pays $.82 each for 49 cassette tapes as that would mean if I sold my 1000 cassette collection, I would need to list it at $820. Selling 1000 cassette tapes for $.25 each would earn $250.
