Keep Drinking!

Email sent out at work worth capturing. Too bad there's only 4 essential oils for water listed when the heading states there are 5...

Beat the heat this August by staying hydrated!

Drinking enough water is one of our most basic and critical health needs. In fact, 75% of Americans are dehydrated. Being properly hydrated can help to boost metabolism and energy, promotes healthy digestive and immune systems, helps to flush out toxins, improve skin complexion, and much more.

How much water do you need?

Every day you lose water through your breath, perspiration, urine and bowel movements. For your body to function properly, you must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water.
So how much fluid does the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate need? The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is:
§ About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids for men
§ About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women
These recommendations cover fluids from water, other beverages and food. About 20 percent of daily fluid intake usually comes from food and the rest from drinks.

What about the advice to drink 8 glasses a day?

You've probably heard the advice, "Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day." That's easy to remember, and it's a reasonable goal.
Most healthy people can stay hydrated by drinking water and other fluids whenever they feel thirsty. For some people, fewer than eight glasses a day might be enough. But other people might need more.
Although uncommon, it's possible to drink too much water. When your kidneys can't excrete the excess water, the sodium content of your blood is diluted (hyponatremia) — which can be life-threatening.

Athletes — especially if they participate in long or intense workouts or endurance events — are at higher risk of hyponatremia. In general, though, drinking too much water is rare in healthy adults who eat an average American diet. (Mayo Clinic - September 6,2017)

Due to the benefits of staying hydrated, Consumable-grade essential oils can be added to water to promote health and well-being for the body and mind, or to simply make your water more tasty! Essential oils can be purchased from many places, including: large grocery stores, wellness centers, and natural food stores. Please contact your pharmacy or PCP if you have any health concerns regarding essential oil use.

TOP 5 ESSENTIAL OILS FOR WATER

Certain essential oils, when ingested into the body, can produce excellent results in promoting healthy systems and supporting the body’s natural functions. This works as an incredible, healthy alternative to powdery, sugary drink flavorings that add very little other than extra calories. Here are our top 5 favorite essential oils to use for (calorie and sugar-free) flavoring your water.
  1. Lemon Essential Oil Containing high concentrations of D-limonene, Lemon essential oil is generally recognized as a safe flavoring for beverages and food. Just one or two drops in a glass of water each day may help with seasonal respiratory discomfort while aiding with cleansing the body’s systems. Lemon also has been known to provide digestive benefits to those who desire a bit of a boost to their systems.
  2. Peppermint Essential Oil Offering a refreshing element to water, Peppermint essential oil is often used to promote digestive health. Its cooling properties make Peppermint water a welcome flavor change on a hot day. Add a couple of drops to a glass of cool water to help the function of the digestive system and soothe the body.
  3. Wild Orange Essential Oil Your water will go wild with flavor when boosted with Wild Orange essential oil. Add a drop to a glass of water to promote your overall health and provide flavor. Because it is high in monoterpenes, Wild Orange naturally stimulates and purifies, helping to support the function of a healthy immune system—particularly during seasons where threats to the body’s natural immunities are high. The powerful antioxidants contained in orange, as well as other essential oils made from citrus peels, help to support the body’s overall health.
  4. Grapefruit Known for its purifying and cleansing properties, Grapefruit essential oil offers a boost of refreshment to a glass of water, while the scent is often motivating and uplifting. Add one or two drops to a glass of water to support a healthy metabolism. This oil is particularly appreciated by those seeking to maintain a healthy weight as part of a balanced lifestyle.
