Farewell to Him

Karen and I drove to Cedar Falls last night after Karen talked to her brother. My beloved Sadie is being sent to a better place. She has a tumor that is making breathing difficult. We left North Liberty around 715 and were back home by 11.
It will happen later this AM...

It was a very important trip for me. I know Sadie is a dog and she was not my dog, but I still loved her as if she was, if that makes sense. I gave her some Tostitos and a piece of licorice, scratched her ear, whispered, "You are a good puppy" and walked out the door before I started crying.

The title of this post is a reference to how Karen's family called Sadie "him" whenever talking about "her" antics, such as howling when she saw me or when she would plop down by Karen, who was not his biggest fan. See, that's making me feel better. As I said, Sadie and I were good together and, in my own way, I will grieve for him. Again, making me chuckle.
