Please - please

This is a Microsoft product,
It does NOT, by definition have problems added by updates.

If you do not like the effect of the newly implemented
'DESIGN FEATURE',
you are at liberty to (try) to avoid the feature.

But thanks for advising the list of the effect of this newly implemented feature.

- I am currently retaining Excel 2003 and 2010 in order to manage worksheets with many charts where the features in Excel 2013/2016 require a workbook with a worksheet that has had a chart deleted from it, to need 'Recovery' where other (retained charts are also removed from the workbook).
Convert a 2016 workbook to 2003 mode and the charts can not only be deleted without 'corrupting'? the workbook, but they can also have the data series specification altered without needing the file 'recovered' to exclude the changed charts, then the modified file can be converted back to 2016 file type without problems being reported by the later Excel version.

I have now solved the problem by rolling back to the last update of Word.

It's obviously a problem with the September 5th update.

Two hours of my life wasted!

Has anyone experienced this problem with Word 2016? My S&R behaviour has unaccountably changed (it was working fine on Friday).

If I do a search for italic text on with “€^&€” in the Replacement text box on:

(Plain text) (italic text) (Plain text)

Instead of the expected (Plain text) €(Italic Text)€ (Plain Text) I get:

(Plain Text) (€I€t€a€lic text€€) (Plain Text)

What is happening? How can I fix it? Is it software update problem?

Iwan Thomas
