Ideal Band Realized!

There is no comparison between playing with other musicians and playing alone on the Yamaha electronic kit to a pre-programmed tune. Thankfully, my audition with https://www.facebook.com/koopandcompany/ went awesome!

Clint, the vocalist / guitarist / leader, did say that there was one other guy that they had told could try out. When he said that, I quipped, "I can tell you now - he sucks." I haven't heard this other drummer play and I said it with a chuckle. I was feeling really good.

So yes! This all happened last night. I loaded Alex's Yamaha electronic set into the backseat of the Ford along with Karen's brother's Fender amp along with a carpet & a tub with my sticks, throne, and extension cords. Then, around 4:45, I began the drive to Central City for what ended up being ~ 3 hours of playing. There was Clint, Tommy (bass), Aaron (guitar / violin), and, later on, Chase (steel guitar) arrived.

Over the course of ~3 hours, we played many tunes. We didn't really take a break so I pretty much played straight for those 3 hours. A couple of the tunes that stand out, in my brain, are Alice in Chains' "The Rooster" and Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues." We sounded good on most of the tunes. There were several that I was not familiar with, but I feel like I picked up on them quickly. There were a couple of times when we finished a tune, looked at each other, and said, "Let's try that again." There was a point during the ~3 hours I played drums with them that it occurred to me that we were sounding good. It felt so awesome to play with other musicians!

I felt very good driving home. I got home ~11, stayed up until ~midnight, went to bed and woke up, wide awake, at 4:30, so I got up, showered, dressed, took the garbage & recycling bins to the curb, and came in to work. I feel really really good though. I'm excited for the future!
