The Senior Technical Academy Specialist (Technical Writer) is responsible for the development of and curation of technical content for SolarWinds products and support knowledge base articles as well as working on special projects for the Technical Content team.
QualificationsYour Experience:
At SolarWinds, we are fanatical about putting our users first in everything we do. The IT pros who use our products every day are relying on us to help them get their products installed and configured quickly, and show them how to get value from our powerful tools. To become a member of the Technical Content team at SolarWinds, you’ll need the following:
- A minimum of 8 years' experience in a Software technology environment working as a technical writer. Working on your Sci-Fi novel does not count.
- Ability to describe complex and technical topics clearly and accurately in a way that is appropriate for the target audience. This one is important. Our products do some pretty cool stuff, and we need to be able to communicate it clearly to our users. You must be able to demonstrate your technical acumen and abilities.
- Strong ability to scope, plan, and estimate workload both independently and in conjunction with the Manager of Technical Content.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills for interacting with team members. As they say, it takes a village. You need to be able to comfortably interact with members on your immediate Technical Content team, as well as Development, Support, and all of the other teams at SolarWinds that come together to bring our products to the greater IT community.
- Bachelors or Masters degree in English, Communications, or other relevant field is desirable.
- Willingness and ability to organize a varied workload.
- Demonstrated ability to work and adapt in a fast-paced environment. Not kidding with this one. It’s fast, but it’s fun.
- Proficiency with HTML and CSS. Familiar with best practices for web content.
- Ability to manage, mentor, and lead junior writers through complex projects.
- Excellent English writing and comprehension skills including excellent knowledge of American English and grammar.
Preferences
- Working knowledge of MadCap Flare, Atlassian Confluence, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Experience writing using Minimalism techniques, Single Sourcing, or Information Mapping.
- Experience with cloud monitoring (Azure, AWS).
